It isn't just the lack of clothing. It is also lack of hair. Poor Ivan got the hair in his prom bundle and then it was back to the all girl show. I could really use more normal male hair.
The reality is that even the "gorgeous" women will survive for a time, but may not look it without the makeup and perfect hair. :)
Well, maybe this is the same as in the real world. Girls just tend to have bigger wardrobe and more shoes and jewelry and stuff. At least I don't know any men who has more clothes than their wife. Anyways, I've been surprised how much good male content ( I especially liked Ivan ), there has been released recently.
I want those imperfections for my 3d gals. Victoria is just too perfect.
It's interesting that several people in this thread have theorized that the real issue is that there is more marketing and promotion of females and female content. The reality however, is that as a percentage of the character's launched by Daz, a higher percentage are male than used to be (nearly 50%.) When looking at the role that promotions play in male vs. female sales, I can say that if we have a female character we make a good character, commission a lot of content to be built, do a lot of promotion, build bundles, launch the sale, etc. With a male character we do exactly that same thing. When this happens the launch of the male character will generate far less in sales than the launch of the female, even with equal efforts and promotions. This is true, even though the cost and effort to produce the male is the same as the female. We continue to do this because we hear you, and know there is a demand. But, to think that this demand is equal or close to it is not true. As such, it makes sense that if someone needs to make a living as an artist, they will choose to sell something that has a lot more people interested to consume it.
This is not to say this is my (or Daz's) preference, or stance. It's just telling you what the results and numbers say.
We do get conspiracy theorists periodically, lol. But the fact is that business is business. On that top 20 list I mentioned earlier are also featured Faces of Asia (but only the female version) and Big Beautiful Genesis 2 Female (Big Boys G2M did nowhere near as well). I keep making male versions as much as I can, because I like to, but it is a fact that they don't move the same traffic when there are two equivalent versions of the same thing. For a while we were able to use bundle sales to subsidize male versions by increasing overall sales (Beautiful Skin, Ball Joint Doll G3, etc.), but Daz isn't accepting two-item bundles any more so that's no longer really possible.
She is bad ----look at the anger in her eyes, and her hot strangely almost naked body.
Dudes should enjoy the view before she chops off their head.

I like Predatron content items, so do not think I'm ragging on them. I did locate the above content under "combat" search.

found this under "war" search
I can just imagine the above women standing around in their altogether with a bunch of other people (and men) waiting to get on a crew lander to wage battle.
Better still...them sitting in a ready room with everyone else, getting briefed on their assignments.
They would certainly be a focus of attention. I guess it would work if you were doing a parody. LOL
Here a few good ones for wasteland or apocalyptic scenes.

If I am doing a wasteland or apocalyptic scene (which I like to do) and there is a female figure as the focus, she is going to be attractive and I am going to find a balance between believable and fantasy on the clothing/look, otherwise it's pointless to me. If I plan to cover up her figure with layers of clothing, she might as well be in the backgroud IMO. Also, when it comes to clothing I go with another rule of thumb, it's not what you wear, but how you wear it, LOL.
I know. It's tough. But if we overwhelming buy male products that are exceptional and well made, maybe we can get the point across. We don't just want male stuff, we want it as well made as the female stuff. (When the Tactical Pants came out they went right into the cart. I wishlisted the Gun and Poses. Then the Boots showed up later in the day, and I bought all four immediately. Getting all four at the same, with a great offer for buying four products, made it an irresistible offer! And I can attest to the fact these are all well made.)
LOL Me, too. As much as the poor wallet can bear!
Exactly.
Hey, DAZ. Please let the vendors do two-item bundles again. At least when they're bundling a male and female version of something together. Thank you for listening.
I actually don't think enough is done to promote male content or figures. It isn't a conspiracy it is what I see. In fact the promotion I see is so overwhelmingly female with male registering a blip now and then. Most of the adverts and such are mostly female.
Go to the Instagram account and check out the content on your feed. Check the ads that appar on various site. Check out daz main page most of the time?
If you want to attract artists who render men and buy male content you don't promote women only content and female content 24/7
edit: I will say your Facebook page is better than your Instagram account. But I think you are still missing some understanding of what could be done more to showcase male figures.
Amazing! I'd really like to know what was the reason behind that.
My understanding is that they want to keep the term "bundle" for sets that contain a bunch of different products.
In the latest V4 sale for RNDA items a lot of the items marked as bundles have no products included at all, just what is stated in the description of the bundle itself, so the term "bundle" is somewhat loosly applied at the moment
Gotta say, I'm a bit struck by the discontinuity between real experience and all the discourse here about "realistic" post-apocalyptic / post-nuclear wasteland. The real experience is that we have none. A very limited (thankfully) amount of post-nuclear experience. I'm not personally sure that the most likely apocalyptic scenario is post nuclear.
Lot's of theory and conjecture but nothing more. My point is this: We are talking art and FICTION. Collective experience demonstrates that people will accept any scenario for fiction as long as it's internally consistent.
I find these threads to be rather interesting, and the accusations that DAZ and the PA's are causing the lack of interest are also interesting (who doesn't love a conspiracy theory).
Maybe an analogy would help clear up why vendors tend to stay away from or make fewer male items?? (or maybe not). Here we go, so the company you work for has a rather vocal group of clients/customers that believe that the company should provide more of service/product X, because they prefer it. Your company has tried it before, and every time, they have lost money, or made significantly less than when going with product Y (you have also experienced the negative impacts of this before). But now these vocal clients/customers are posting their wishes over and over on the company Facebook page, so management decides to accommodate their wishes. In an attempt to minimize their potential losses, management proposes to cut your wages by 66% while you work on service/product X. They tell you repeatedly that this will make certain clients/customers very happy, which if you really care about the clients/customers, this should make up for any financial loss. They also promise that if things do better than they have in the past, they will adjust the amount you were paid. However, if things don't even make the break even point, you will need to pay them back some of your reduced wages to compensate for the loss. When you begin to complain, management just reminds you how happy it will make these customers, so you should also be happy, even if you don't have enough money to live on.
Essentially, this is what many posters in these threads are asking both DAZ and the PA's to do. Take a probable loss to try and bolster inventory and sales for male products. My only question is, would you be willing take a cut in your pay for a similar reason, when you could continue to make product Y with a more or less guaranteed pay?
A quick scan of the galleries here can give you a good idea how popular male content might (might not) be. Of 40 images in the first page, 30 feature women, 6 have both men and women, and 4 either have neither or are toons (not sexy toons). This would seem to me to confirm what vendors have been saying, but your interpretation may be different (maybe they are removing all the male images
). I'm not saying that more male stuff in general isn't needed, but demand just doesn't seem to be very big.
Sorry I just screwed up your numbers, DustRider.
I'm going to pass on the 'why men's stuff doesn't sell and the hypothetical speculation and the inevitable arguements that follow now and suggest that if DAZ is going to market men's stuff at all, it concentrate on making a nice and flexible set of basics for the guys. That includes shorter more practical hair styles, improving muscle morphs, facial and body morphs, bodyhair, clothing, and customization and skin tones. Pay attention to the groin and waistband area of the pants and the neck area of the shirt and tie and coat which seem to be areas that some have troublw with. Try not to make clothing skin tight, and painted on. People need to be able to sit and flex in those outfits. Clothing is simple, but should have details.
For figures add details like bodyhair, brow options, and such. If you use a market resource, make sure it doesn't look too much like the source material.
I really can do the rest now. As long as there are morphs I can make my own base figures. Just need some nice clothing that looks as real as the figures do and I'm set.
I always get a little skeptical when people say "business is business" but they're stacking the deck to support whatever statistics they're trying to promote, such as when Hollywood knows that actions films and sci fi tend to sell well overseas and comedies don't and they keep saying films with minority leads don't sell abroad, yet the majority of minority led films they tend to greenlight are comedies.
If the male figures or accessories for those figures aren't what the majority of people are requesting, or the aritcles don't meet user requirements, it's easy to say male stuff just doesn't sell, show the figures for the last item that didn't sell because it didn't fit, or morph well, call it a day and go back to designing skimp wear, and another female character that looks like a cousin of Victoria 7.*
* And there honestly seem to be a couple of female characters coming out each week to the point now that I have a really hard time trying to figure out how they differ from the last figure that came out last week.I promise you if the promo renders didn't have hair and they didn't have names, you probably couldn't tell them all apart. I'd be curious to know how all these female characters are really selling.
I give up.
The girls sell much much more than the boys. So you can't really blame the content creators for focusing on the girls. If more people bought more of the boys they would make more boys. They just make what the public wants. We all speak with our money. What we send our money on is what we tell the creators we want more of. If we want more boys, more people are going to have to step up and start buying more boys. The same with the people of color. If we want more people of color, more people have to step up and start buying more of the non-white characters. The majority of the content creators will do what is most profitable for them to do.
I'm hoping that the product development for male outfits moves beyond the fantasy warrior and we see some superhero content once more like Genesis supersuit. With the figure advances and the popularity of comics developing more comic-themed stuff content might be an interesting direction. Thus far the comic them for Genesis 3 has been spotty. I think if people could easily make their own superheroes easier a product like that might take off.
Luthbel has some nice mens clothing - some can be used for apocalyptic stuff
http://www.daz3d.com/luthbel
There has been a lot more mens clothing made in the past couple years it seems like.
I agree. Luthbel makes great clothing, and the lines of the clothing look good. Eldritch seeker for example has some nice shirt collars. Something I think is problem area for lots of men's outfits.
My impression was that the Genesis suit didn't sell very well; apparently there were going to be more sets for it but the few that were released didn't sell well either.
Interesting. I had heard that.
+1
I'm sure vendors don't make much for males because it actually sells so much better than female stuff that they don't want to pay taxes on all the extra income.
lol
Wasn't talking about you specifically, but that line of reasoning does get used an awful lot in a lot of situations when people simply don't want to do something, and instead of coming out and saying such, they present sketchy statistics.
Maybe people are saying they want stuff that they have no intention of actually buying, maybe the majority of buyers never come to the forums and give their opinions, but if I looked at just what people were saying they wanted, I would at least give it a shot once. Give me a year or two at learning how the Daz market works, and after putting out some merchandise of my own maybe I'll be singing the same tune, but until then I"m simply entertaining some healthy, armchair skepticism.
Nelsonsmith, I think that is the source of SickleYield's "I give up"; there are numerous successful vendors who do make products for male characters who can give you real world statistics and who do want to earn a living and they are told that their real data is sketchy and that their hard work doesn't represent a real interest in making more male products. If you peek at SickleYield's DeviantArt page, you can see real numbers and then make the decision. The forum is a bit like the internet; you get the people who are moved enought to write about something but they aren't representative of the purchasing public. It is alright to be a skeptic but remember that the vendors would love to sell you what you want as long as you will consistantly buy it.
Actually, it is. Daz_Steve himself here even once revealed that we're going to get many more males this year with female releases. We know that we're getting a new conterpart to Aiko, Tween Julie is getting one, and we still have yet to see which lady Lucian 7 will escourt.
