trying to load a Poser PZ3 scene into Carrara totally locked up my PC
it initially threw an error though it all appeared in my scene outliner but when I then clicked on that the whole computer froze and task manager couldn't be clicked after hitting CTRL Alt Del
CPU was running like crazy
it was just a DM scene Dark Legacy from Rendo I have loaded in DAZ studio earlier and pretty sure have in Carrara too
Hmmm... maybe try opening it in Daz Studio or Poser, then save it either as a new DUF or PZ3?
I recall a long time ago that I would have rare occurrances like that - and that's the solution I chose - and it usually worked. The exception being that I was using old Poser, not Daz Studio.
from the other place: Installed Python 2.7.11 however CarraraVWDBridge failed on input of VWD location (tried having VWD in C:VWD and ...RuntimePythonposerscriptsVWD). Installed Python 2.7.12 and it appears to have fixed that problem. Now able to save VWD location and start VWD from Carrara. (Windows10 x64)

Thank you So Much, my firend! A life without VWD is like... well... living without!
My VWD stopped working when I removed Poser. It is supposed to run as a stand-alone, but hasn't worked for me. Like others, I have an older computer at the top of the clost that has a working version. I keep the old laptop because it has software related to the last time I taught. Should probably get rid of it for the storage space.

Yes it adds another dimension, I had a show a few years ago of my 3d renders and vwd was a dominant tool in most of the works

Hi Ted would you mind checking your python version out of interest ?

If you like surreal compositions
And Carrara’s spline-based charm
If you're into morphing meshes
With shaders that disarm
If you like tweaking displacement
While the modifiers play
I'm the geek that you've looked for
Modeling night and day
If you like rigging with soft IK
And metaballs that groove
If you vibe with particle sparkles
And polys that you can move
If you mesh for composition
With light maps set to sway
Let’s build scenes down in Carrara
Where polygons love to play
Yes, I love some good UV mapping
And some shaders with flair
Cubic projections and bump maps
With specularity to spare
Let’s escape to a viewport island
Where the spline trees sway
And we render dreams in Carrara
Until break of day

well Microsoft support for Windows 10 is ending next month and not only does my hardware not support Win 11 (TPM) but apparently my version of Octane render 4 Carrara won't run on it
so I won't be updating
this might mean not updating any of my software and eventually not being able to use some
fortunately 12 year old Carrara is pretty safe but DAZ studio is likely another story
my Ai stuff might not work for much longer too but less of an issue as can go the web based Google Collab route if needed
(so far avoided that but in the end no dearer as local electricity costs would be offset by the online costs and better GPUs)
DAZ studio the one worrying me which is why I posted in this thread
For what its worth...I recently(a month ago) undated one of my computers from windows 10 to windows 11. That computer like yours, didn't qualify for the update(TPM). I really didn't expect things to work out but to my surprise, all my programs still work. That list includes Carrrara 8.5 Pro Beta as well as the release version of C8.5, and Carrara 8.1, and Octane 4.05.09 for Carrara works fine as well. All except CS4 which was causing a crash on zip and rar files,so I uninstalled that and all is well. Although I'm really not a fan of Win11, I figured that I'm going to have to bite the bullet eventually, so I went for it. Windows 11 iso I downloaded from Micrsoft, and instead of a clean install I opted for "update" which gave me the option of keeping all my data and apps. A clean install wipes the computer. As far as DazStudio is concerned, I still use 4.10 and 4.21. I have no plans on updating those

Fantastic. I may need to find an old Win7 machine just for Carrara purposes. Hmmm... like getting back into that whole HP Z802 craze!!! :)
Loves me my VWD!!!
OK a weird one today

yeah saving as dif might need to be the solution
along with the UV wrap intick
If having trouble running latest version of vwd then try turning off "use gpu"
My trouble is that it errors out as soon as I try to launch VWD
My bad guess would be its the python version. Could be worth looking at . There's a link somewhere I'll have a gander, edit see next post

On that note, it really doesn't bother me - that difference in time to simulate. While it is a huge change, the end result is totally worth it.
I just hope beyond hope that Gerald just gave up and is doing well. Good guy! Hope he's okay
the python install and a separate instance of Carrara light on plugins is what seems to have fixed the bridge for me on the Win10
sadly VWD itself mostly gets stuck mid simulation and stops responding
it has managed to finish and send back to host sometimes but mostly not
(on the otherhand, my Win7 install works beautifully)
It's working great in Daz Studio 4.24

I do have Poser 7 on my Win7 and no Poser on Win10
that said it works now but gets stuck not responding
not tested the DAZ Studio bridge, I should as Dforce is way too explosive
no good, crashed D|S after clicking OK too

My version is 3.10.10
Thanks Diomede, you could always try with Python 2.7.12 if you get a chance.

works fine clothes only converted to Blended weight, saved as scene subset, loaded on my saved G9
more than I can say about in DAZ Studio
just putting it here as wasted days in DAZ studio
should have used Carrara
That's a great catchy Jingle, should have used carrara :)
...shoulda used

Shoulda Used CARRARA!!!

I guess I am scared as no going back and heard conflicting stories on Octane
it works so don't want to break it
I will try and buy a new PC with the latest Nvidia GPU for DAZ Studio etc eventually but not for a couple years yet
just keeping my D|S installs backed up until it breaks so can go back, even considering a separate Carrara computer more CPU orientated too
Ouch - that really sucks, Wendy. I feel some of your pain. Fingers crossed that it works out for you.
