Does the Author name stored in the file match the Author name set in Edit>Preferences?
The author name? Huh?
Okay. No, they aren't the same. That's annoying because now I have a random mix of authors apparently and had no idea it would matter.
The idea is to prevent the accidental overwriting of content files.
OK....I was thinking I was the only one having this issue since I've seen no one else with it. I D/Led and installed DS6 when it was released
I'm running a Window11 (12th gen)i5 16 gig ram with Gigbyte RTX4060
And I too am missing all the features of my Premier package of DS6 and yes, I did log in to my Daz accout with suscess. And still nothing.
Everything work find on my latest version of DS4. Juust not in DS6. I've tried re-installing it a couple of time when first installed on release day. But look like I may wanna hold off on that till thats fixed from the looks of things.
(Edited by mod to fix quote)
I will confess that I am too lazy to read the whole thread But:
I'm giving up on DS6. Everything is going from bad to worse. First, the CMS got corrupted. After I reinstalled DS6, the installation disappeared. I closed and reopened DIM, and then DS6 appeared showing that it occupies -1 MB of disk space. I uninstalled it, and now the installation fails. I restarted my PC, and now DIM refuses to download DS6. I'll wait for a more stable version. In any case, I'm only interested in the NPR render with Filament.
Those don't sound like DS6 issues. They do sound liiike the sort of thing that could be triiggered by disc problems, or rogue system level software such as security software.
Apart that, if those problems only arise with DS6 and not with any other program, then one may wonder why DS6 triggers the security software while others don't. As for disc problems again they would affect all the programs including the OS.
[This is as regards DS6]
With regard to DS6 and its purported "performance improvements/optimizations": Do they only apply/are they only optimized for Genesis 9 figures or are they across the board? If they're Gen9 only, I probably won't be using DS6 anytime soon -- I've a lot invested in G8/8.1 and associated assets.
[This is as regards DS4.final; I'm reading the rest of the comments to keep track of when DS6 will live up to its claims]
The thought that typing a jump-to character somewhere else would also activate keyboard motion is inconceivable to me, as well as not being able to bind the same key to identical functions in different panes. How come keyboard shortcuts are not context-dependent in the first place? If I hit 'delete' in the timeline on, say, a key, I don't expect that it will delete the currently selected item in the viewport; yet, here we are. Global shortcuts should not be a default, and UI interactions should be consistent across parts of the UI. I'm glad that shortcuts are at least disabled while typing in a text box (please tell me this has not changed!).
Along those lines, there is definitiely some functionality missing from the shortcuts (I cannot, for example, toggle item visibility or the 'Freeze Simulation' switch with a shortcut, for example -- both of which I use frequently), as well as some non-overridability for, e.g. the space bar: I bound Ctrl+Space to Move-To-Floor, and in addition to moving my character to the floor, it also enabled ALL the IK pins on EVERY IK on my character, which caused me some grief a few times.
They are system enhacements, not figure-specific (which would be hard to implement, I would think).
OK..
Thank you to nemesis10 for your tips...
Between that and jumping thru the hoops with the un-install/install thingy along the way (doh)...
Things are showing....now time to test to find out if they work as they should.
Again....thanks
You are more than welcome. DIM is strangely sophisticated with a lot of hidden things.
Found two things I'm not liking with 6
Animatelite is gone. And the default viewport setting (Not Filament or Nvida) Doesn't load models correctly.
I'll be sticking with 4 until these bugs are fixed.
So after working for a while, DAZ 6 has gotten extremely unstable for me. It crashes an average of four times an hour, but I don't have to actually use it for 15 minutes. It happens when posing, when loading assets into a scene (whether or not worn), running dForce simulations, rendering, or just moving the camera in smooth shaded view. Mostly ACCESS_VIOLATIONS in libneuray.dll. I've submitted bug reports, but no response so far.
AnimateLite 9and the full versions) are not (yet) updated for DS 6 - see the evergreen thread in the Daz Studio Discussion forum.
What do you mean that the Viewport doesn't load the models? If they are not drawing correctly, which GPU is handling DS (stand-alone or on CPU)? That is a driver setting in the nVidia/Catalyst Control panel.
That is Iray, have you tried a different GPU driver (ideally one close to the minimum required).
I'm currently on 596.59 (current Studio driver); I've also tried 576.02 and 581.42. No change in behavior.
...not sure if this has been asked yet (skipped ahead a little) but can you disable or at least turn off the Victoria AI Bot?
Yes it's a plugin
Just uncheck it in Help>About Installed Plug-ins and restart DS.
I DAZ Studio 6 supposed to look different from previous versions?
It looks the same to me. Yeah the splash screen says it's DAZ Studio 6.
If you mean the UI, it's not supposed to look very different.
I read an earlier comment that said the UI looked very different,
Well, if you have heavily customized your DS4 UI, then that customization does not carry over to DS6. In that case, it does look very different. Toolbars that you have added in DS4 will be missing. Your favorites and scripts menus will be empty. PA plugins that you had installed in DS4 will be missing in DS6, and they can't even be added back in unless the PA updates them. My DS4 is crowded with many panes (tabs) in a custom arrangement, toolbars that I have added and ones I created, big menus of favorites and scripts, a customized style (colors etc.). My DS6 is bare naked. If you did not customize your DS4, you probably will not see much difference.
Someone said that DAZ Studio 6 does not find your previous content directories.
That is false.
I just ran DAZ Studio 6 on my "office computer" (as opposed to my DAZ Studio computer.) Just for fun.
DAZ Studio 6 found a Content Directory just fine... and asked if I wanted to include it.
I have 10 different content libraries. I do not use the default ones on the C drive. DS6 did not configure all those directories for me. It only wanted to use the default ones on the C drive. I had to manually remove the C drive directories that it added and add my own.
This comes back to the same issue. Everything is default in DS6 when you first load it. If you left everything default in DS4, you will have less manual configuration to do in DS6.
What works for your situation may not work for other people's situations. What other people post as problems they have, may not become problems for you.
So did anybody managed to find a way to fix the viewport performance being so bad? I updated my drivers and installed the microsoft update. Nothing really helped. And my GPU is RTX 5090. Daz6 is still alpha stage with how unstable and laggy it is/
There is nothing more you can do - this is a Daz problem.
Interesting thread. I set my DIM to install to a fresh drive, then used DIM to load the useful content (older characters are not useful anymore).
A bit aggravating, at the moment, that the Content Library isn't displayed the same way as it was. But I haven't really tried to fix it. Was too keen to get started.
It found content libraries I had created as I mapped them. So, that seemed OK.
All up, it seems usable.
Except that I had a weird seizure of input. Felt like a race condition somewhere, with no log entry to indicate what happened. The log up to that point was all IRAY, and I was in the IRAY viewport, and I had just added a light. Not usefully, it was the wrong light, but - Bang.
Lost both Mouse and Keyboard input. Tried connecting a different mouse, reconnecting both, and there was no control whatsoever, so I had to hit reset on the computer. It all came back fine. Went back in and found the proper lights for the scene, it rendered, but neither the DAZ nor the Computer logs have much for me to go on.
I'm good with this, but a bit curious. I may try to reproduce the effect. I don't see anyone else mentioning it. 3040 12G on W11 running on Ryzen.
Which affects some usersmore than, or to the exclusion of, other users. You do need to be clear about which "viewport issue" you mean - some have problems in the non-render modes, some don't; Irayt mode seems to behave differently from DS 4 but it is still hard to tell if we are all seeing the same thing; I am not sure if there have been issues reported with Filament.
