Granted I do think Iray has turned all the ladies into bronze colored spray-tan clones  so I guess everyone has been zapped this generation.

And yet the males all seem to get the pasty white promos in comparison - such irony xD

And by the same token, what is the point of buying a figure...

I think I'm detecting joking and that's just not on. The new UV prevents stretching, and that's very important when notVictoria and definitelynotVictoria aren't identical to Victoria.

More like wry humor. Beats crying about the relatively few male items for G3M... or G2M for that matter. (As compared to those for the ladies.)

And for G3M/M7 et al, auto-fit of G2M clothing is hit-and-miss. And for anything over the groin area, it's mostly miss. (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/66172/) Although there are two products from PAs that might solve the problem: Wear Them All for G3M by Valzheimer; and SY Ultra Templates for G3M, by Sickleyield. Wear Them All is on my wishlist, and I just picked up the Ultra Templates with the latest Blink Sale. Haven't even downloaded it yet!

    I was joking too xD

I feel like Genesis 2 really made so much sense with each character base and why you'd want each one and the characters made for them.

Genesis 3 is a huge mess from a marketing/desire standpoint. I wonder if they fired all the marketing people or something.

Well, since this appears to be de-evolving into a Daz and PA bashing thread, I got nothing else to say here. At least nothin' nice.
I will make any announcement about Ragnar on Facebook and in his thread in the PA Commercial thread.

    Seriously, Sorel...amazing work.

    CYA!

There's a wold of difference between criticising some of the choices Daz makes, and bashing Daz/PAs. Saying that the selections put up for sale at various points in time doesn't make sense does not mean the product looks bad, or that the work was bad. Half of this thread was criticising the promos that Daz chose to go with. It doesn't mean the character looks bad: in fact as soon as some customers put up promos, here is everyone (including you) commenting on how great the PAs work looks. The work is great. It's the choices in when and where what is sold that makes no sense.

For me, I love DAZ studio, and the employees are great.

I think the promo art standards have gone downhill. This is after I was told the promo art standards were raised.  Not all promo art of course. Some is awesome. But the overuse of golden lighting on some characters makes me want to check my monitor to see if it is calibrated properly. If too much yellow is used it is difficult to ascertain what a character renders like.

As far as content goes I've had my share of duds bought here and recently too. Fortunately the liberal return policy on regular sale items is great. Sadly items that are included in bundles and special sales are not returnable and when I get an item that doesn't perform well then I will talk about it.

As lx stated, our comments were about DAZ marketing choices, not about products, PAs or the DAZ store in general. They were not intended to offend, and not a criticism of any PA. I apologize if I said anything that offended you personally, Laura.

Is it not possible that the PAs create their own promo images?

Entirely possible, but even those have guidelines - though we're only talking about Daz Original character promos here, which all look very similar (as opposed to PA products which vary quite a lot in style.)

Original characters will generally be in one super stylized style, and rarely ever show the no makeup default skin, or have an image with neutral lighting, etc. So very exciting images, but none of the information artists actually need to decide on purchases. When you have 5-8 promo images, sparing ONE near the end for a neutral render of the character without fancy colours makeup versions props, etc. is not too much to ask while keeping the exciting shiny lights on most of the promos.

Also, PA characters in bundles I've noticed often have less information in their promo images than if they made their own character separately.

    Here's an example:

http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-uma-hd-for-gia-7 This is in the Gia bundle
http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-taia-hd-for-victoria-7 This was sold separately / part of the Egytpian set

Both characters are beautiful, made by the same artists, who I'm a big fan of. But look at how much more information there is in the second product, how much harder the image set works to sell the product (and I did buy that one as soon as I saw it.)

(Hopefully everyone can see that this is not bashing on PAs, but trying to explain what sorts of things draw some customers to purchase items.)

I think it can be a little depressing to come into a figure thread and half the coments are some variation on "this figure sucks", "The promos suck", "Everything used to be so much better everything sucks now"

And not only is it depressing and a smidge rude, its completely useless too. You think something sucks, great. Obviously sombody disagreed. Without some actual critique in the criticism, theres nothing to listen to.

For instance "ALL MODERN MUSIC SUCKS" > "Calm down grandpa"

    vs.

"I dont like how so much of modern music is in 4/4 and a major key, It gets boring" > "Well here's some artists who use all sorts of fun time signatures and keys"  > "Nifty I am now much more satisfied with my life"

In every thread reasons are given, complaints of what is lacking for some customers to be able to make the choice to purchase. Over and over, until many resort to the modern shorthand of 'sucks' because they've explained so many times and every time it's fallen on deaf ears. I just went to the trouble of explaining the issues, including image examples, pointing out that both characters were beautiful (no use of the word sucks) but why I chose one over the other. In fact I did every thing you complained about no one doing in your reply. You wonder why customers get fed up and stop explaining.

It's probably better to leave a support ticket as the forums are hardly read by most Daz staff.

I didn't say no one does it I said "when half the comments" And to be fair its probably less, but these forums have seemed increasingly negative of late, And I think we (and thats a general "we" not all inclusive) are all getting a bit defensive.

And there have been a whole lot of "this sucks" "that sucks" and unfortunately the vitriol tends to stick out more than the well reasoned comments

WE are all here because we like art. I don't think it is rude at all to compare render quality of past promo images, some of which were awesome. I think Iray focused promo art has some problems, especially in tones of the light. I use promo art to make buying decisions. If it doesn't help me decide because the image is poorly lit, or the characters look orange or sallow or they don't render enough shots.  It just isn't effective to me as a promotional image.

I like Studio, which is why I'm here. But I'm not going to say I like stuff when I don't.

I don't see the increased negativity in the forums.

And I totally didn'tt see your post on promo images right before I posted. (both of them! i'm slow)

I do agree with you for most of it honestly, especially on the makeup front (Which I why I'm usually scuttling around the forums posting the makeupless shots)

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

I like makeupless shots. Too bad they don't come with unplucked brows. =-)

I will try to be careful not to derail this thread but things are definitely more rude.  There seems to be less "I don't particularly like this" and more "this is garbage".  In the case of Gianni 7 versus Michael 7 or Leo 7, one thing I like is that the various characters are more subtle variations of normal human shapes rather than archetypes i.e the slim sensitive guy versus the muscled warrior versus the generic black guy versus the generic asian (I should mention I'm a generic black guy).  I want to grab everybody and say: as long as people are buying there will be more characters, and sooner or later, there will be one you like.  I intentionally didn't buy Betheny 7 since she didn't strike me as someone I would ever render but I am happy that she exists as a character.
Getting back to Leo.... I love Gyspy angel's characters and can hardly wait for her take on Leo.

Lets keep the topic on Gianni and see more renders of our wonderful Gianni. I'm not sure people will agree on these other subjects, and this is the Gianni thread. I wonder if we can beat the Gia thread with more Gianni goodness.

A agree. My first thought when seeing this in the Michael and Friends thread was along the lines of, "hubba, hubba..."

Sorel has posted a number of images in the Galleries of Ragnar. Well worth the time to check them out. http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/galleries/1292/
