@felis, thank you. I am putting together a test to see if I understand that! When one is computer lingo challenged, it is a test, fail, test, fail, test, oh that's what he meant!

I used both DS4.24.0.3 Beta to build the scene and DS6.2025.21707 ALPHA to render it. That was because the total vertices were 6,653,790 and most of that was the hair. The render only took 5 min 54 sec to render on my MacMini M4. I did reboot my computer between saving and closing my file on the Beta and opening the Alpha. The render is just:

https://www.daz3d.com/cc-esmeria-for-genesis-9 - she is just lovely. Thank you Changling Chick.

https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-lv-halterneck-gown-and-shoes-for-genesis-9 - I had to use Mesh Grabber to clear out two tiny holes in the breast and thigh that did not resolve with sliders or smoothing.

https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-black-tie-hair-for-genesis-9 - now that I know the Alpha has no issue with the 6 million vertices I can use this hair I love.

https://www.daz3d.com/fk-cathya-jewelry-set - love this set. I didn't feel like trying to add bracelets and earrings would just get hidden in the hair.

https://www.daz3d.com/Theory-of-Light-1-Zen-Moods - bought this when it was on Rendo, love it.

As to the memory compression, I see that it comes in at 774 KB while a render I did on Tara 9 HD yesterday is 1.5 MB. So yes, this is fantastic. Thank you @felis for your help and to @ChanglingChick for the Render Settings which added to my knowledge base and to saving my file memory.

Thank you! :) If you have something specfic in mind for poses (human or otherwise) let me know. I'm always open to suggestion. The next dog set is going to be a combination Dog 8 and G9, if things go as planned.  But no matter how hard I organize things, something always gets in the way. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the gawds of chaos will stay a distance for the rest of this year. Heh. (Not holding out much hope since fate never listens to me. But I remain hopeful.)

If you're looking for gaps to fill:

    - dagger-throwing and axe-throwing poses. I haven't been able to find any at all.

    - paired combat poses for one-handed sword... most of what's out there seems to either be solo (great until you need to put them in actual combat), two-handers, or sword-and-offhand (dagger, shield, axe, etc...). Just some straight-up one-handers (that aren't rapier) would be great!!

...I find the dieties of chaos tend to respond well if you make and consume blueberry pancakes in their name. And if it doesn't work... well, you still have chaos, but now you're full of blueberry pancakes, so life could be worse.

LOL!!!! Omg, yes. And French Toast. The gawds of chaos love French Toast offerings. With bacon. Always with bacon.

Actually, I have some weapons and poses in my build list - one of which IS an axe wielding set (just need to build the axe). I've long noticed a lack of proper axe wielding poses in the market. I actually got my start as a PA making combat poses. It's still my favorite thing to build - especially the two-person interaction poses.. (I am EAGERLY awaiting when the Lowpi team starts into the warfare area of our build list). I've been working on a karambit, as that one will be my next weapon/pose set. But I really want to revisit some of my older swordplay sets and update them for G9, so I can definitely say swords are in my future. wink

Accidental level-up I discovered on French Toast: it's even better if you substitute whiskey instead of the vanilla. (I'd just moved into my house and a friend had stayed overnight because alcohol + driving = bad. I went to make French toast in the morning and had everything together when I discovered I had no vanilla. Well, vanilla's mostly alcohol anyway, so why not use the Jameson? I haven't made it any other way since.)

And yay for future swords to look forward to!!

French toast surely ought to use VSOP, though. Otherwise it is more of a Scotch egg.

Oh, likely, and it'd probably be good, too. Not something I ever had on hand when I was still drinking, though. (Only reason I have a bottle of Jamie on hand anymore is for French toast.... have to be on top of my game if I'm going to be responsible for little people's lives.)

I was totally confused. I have had no idea what French Toast was. No idea whatsoever. However, I have learnt it's 'Eggy Bread' through the wonders of Google. It's OK, but I have to confess I prefer fried bread using beef dripping. Not that we have beef joints to get dripping often (<once a year) and usually have fried bread even less often.

It actually depends on the vanilla. Some manufacturers use high quality vanilla beans to start with, but there are quite a few that use lesser quality, or even twice expressed mulch. (Technically, it's not called mulch, but the word escapes me at the moment.) They use alcohol to express the vanilla out of the bean (that's why it's called "extract"), but it waters down the actual vanilla flavor. I have just recently discovered vanilla bean paste and that has pretty much leveled up my baking and cooking. (The ratio of vanilla bean paste to vanilla extract is 1:1 for our players at home.)

As an aside, the reason why the Jameson's whiskey works is because they use vanilla bean in the distillation process. So it "naturally" has a vanilla flavor profile to it. (But it also has other flavorings from the corn used to distill the whiskey, plus the charred oak that they cure the whiskey in. All that does enhance your French Toast, no doubt, and I'm inclined to try it myself.) You can pretty much use any alcohol that is flavored with vanilla. But then why sacrifice the quality on a cheap booze and imitation vanilla extract - unless you're trying to save pennies, then this way is absolutely acceptable.

Sorry. We seemed to have gone off topic here. Lol.

I return you back to your regularly scheduled thread of product assessments.

I love this, and I LOVE that you did it in Alpha!

Thank you all for the kind words!! I'm so glad you're enjoying her. I started including those specific render settings because I keep forgetting to change them myself since they were moved. It's not a big deal on CC Esmeria, but on a character like CC Caius with those tattoos, the default texture compression will likely result in what looks like seams at every texture border.

Happy to see more Retro props today in the D+ new release... I always find fun gems in those sets.

    However, two annoyances:

    - The books. For one, not all the titles are spelled correctly (on the shelf there is "Viking Campaings" for example -- pretty sure it's supposed to be "Campaigns"). And another -- the spines. A look at my bookshelf, everything has the title with the top of the words towards the right, reading the word from top-to-bottom along the spine. I don't know if this is different in other places, but it's not even consistent within the set. Some are on the right, some are on the left. Please. Please. Just pick one.

    - The promos also include props from two other sets. And granted it lists those sets at the bottom, but... if you're advertising a prop set, and a prop is not in the set, don't put it in the promos.

It can vary between publishers: French publishers seem to favor the bottom to top orientation, but even among them, some prefer the top to bottom orientation.

If it was my bookshelf, I'd flip the books so all the titles faced the same way.

That's disturbing. Thanks for pointing out the issue of props from other products. I agree; a props product shouldn't show off props in the promos, if they are not included. I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. It is disclosed, as you said, but it does still feel misleading.

I've run into that issue with this PA's prop sets before. One of them at least I'm pretty sure there was no additional product disclosed at the bottom. And yes, there are the separate product renders, but... I mean for this one, for example, there are at least two props that are in the promo pics, not in the separate accounting, and I know they're not in the two products listed at the bottom because I have them both. And one's a liftle silver jar, and fhe other is a set of books, so it's not like you could easily tell from the product listing... nor, IMHO should one have to cross-reference a bunch to figure out what's included and what isn't.

  • SilverGirlSilverGirl Posts: 2,814

Addendum: I was wrong, different PA, same theme. The product I was thinking of was https://www.daz3d.com/retro-apartment-props-1 which shows a candy dish in the 7th promo that was the main reason I got the set. There is no candy dish included. There are no other products listed. WHERE IS THE CANDY DISH???

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,182
It may be in Retro Apartment Props 2, which has an editorial license.

Oh heck! There it is! And I even have that one, but since the dish was closed in it, I thought it was just some weird little glass sculpture and ignored it. Thank you! (I don't worry about the licenses... I'm only doing this stuff for my own fun anyway.)

...however, still begs the question of what on earth it was doing in the promo shots for Props 1.

Three shoutouts from me today: Druidbark Skin for G9 by Matari3D looks really nice. I like how each color has a different texture. Bit Bot by The AntFarm is extremely cute. And Hippochera for Daz Horse 3 by Oso is very interesting: the kind of unreal creatures I always look out for. I think it would look interesting with Pegasus wings (also for Daz Horse 3) to make a griffon-like creature. If someone gets it and has the wings too, share the result! ;)

Sadly, since I have no immediate need for any of those items, they're going into the wishlist for now. But I'm sure they'll end up in my cart eventually.

Here's the hippochera with Pegasus wings. Note that you want to parent it, not have it geograft on (because it will zap the dforce hair in the area), and may have to fiddle with scaling and colors.

I was also wondering if you'd be doing an update to the ancient Hippocampus - a V3 vintage model of a Merfolk Horse. To be honest, I'd be amazed if you did, but.. it's no stranger than the Hippochera.

    Regards,

    Richard

Hey now! "Campaings" is a perfectly cromulent word. It's the plural active verb (action) of "campa" which is the act of punching outside one's weight class in a spelling bee or when one's fingers outpace one's brain on a keyboard. winklaugh

And no slight to Space Elsa. I often am guilty of "campaing".

I think I'm feeling extra salty about books at the moment because I finally buckled down and spent a day and a half to get the bookshelves in my girls' flat looking /right/ instead of /good enough./ They're both orderly enough that they wouldn't have books stacked in haphazard piles or leaning to the side, and everything would be arranged by height. Finding any sets with actual books they might consider having made things even worse. For a lot of things I had to either take after them with the geometry editor, take after the textures with Photoshop, or both.

The Viking Campaign is something they might've actually had... but then, it's not clear if that particular stack is in the prop pack anyway. There's also a "Hystory of Painting," "Hystory of America," and "Hustory of Rome," and I couldn't figure out if those were intentional or not, given that the word is spelled correctly other places...

I don't often go nuts over frilly dresses or let that side of me drive my purchases but vyktohria's https://www.daz3d.com/faxhion--kuj-lace-dress-texture-add-on-for-genesis-9 did it to me big time today. I had ignored the original dress when it came out, but the link took me to the bundle, where I had already bought the wedding gown and material set. I looked at the other items and found https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-gothic-style-outfit-for-genesis-9-texture-add-on and https://www.daz3d.com/tf-umbra-lunae-jewelry-set at $1.99! The dresses are in the offering 'The Choice Is Yours' on today's sale page, and with the coupon code and 4 tokens, I got, https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-kuj-lace-dress-for-genesis-9 and https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-gothic-style-outfit-for-genesis-9 both for $6.83 along with https://www.daz3d.com/oso-filatoon-kit-for-genesis-9 for $4.88  and https://www.daz3d.com/isis-lock for $13.65.

I am not sure just when or how I will use the dresses, but as I am working on tutorials to improve my render lighting, I am trying out a variety of things I normally don't do. And that lace dress texture set is gorgeous. Weird thing was I used one of vyktohria's dresses, https://www.daz3d.com/vyk-dforce-evening-magic-gown-for-genesis-81-females on G9 yesterday and it great with autofit.

Edit to correct link and to add the price for the original texture set by vyktohria that started all this, was $9.28.

Okay, definitely didn't have Nordic rune gummies on my Bingo card, but it went on my wishlist for the sheer delightful absurdity of it. And oddly enough, I'd have an actual use for it.

Its a niche item for sure, but no one else has any!

The sugar can be hidden so you can scale it to flatten it and use them for glowing runes and what not if you want

Oh cool! I missed that aspect; I'd have a use for that as well.

Did Sprite read the book or watch any of the considerable collection of movies before dishing this up?! If Jane had run around Thornfield Hall wearing this, she would have been clapped in the attic with the other madwoman. https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-spr-jane-eyre-style-outfit-for-genesis-9

I didn't even read the product name. I just scrolled on by with total lack of interest. But, wow, that title is ridiculous for the product content.
