    Set the convergence to 99%

    Thanks.

    I went here:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/render_settings/engine/nvidia_iray/progressive_render/start

but there is nothing on that page.

That's not making any difference. Are you sure Progressive Rendering isn't something else?

Yes, progressive rendering is what affects how long your renders go.

More progress with mine and Fuseling's new skin shader setup. This is lit with three primitive mesh light spheres. The HDR is turned way down.

    I found this thread:

I upped the Render Quality as well now and this is doing the trick. I see it taking longer now.

I had an indoor scene that was grainy at 5000 (default) as soon as I increased the quality to 2.00 and left the samples the noise went away. I also had Noise reduction set to ON.

Thanks!! Now that I have access to an unbiased engine within DS I'm going to get results even if it kills me. ;)

Well, don't let that happen, we need you around here. LOL! My own renders will suffer.

As soon as my render finishes I'll hunt down that noise reduction setting. Thanks.

You may not need to wait if you don't want to. Look at the left side of the render and see if there is not one of those little gray bar things that you click to move windows. It should open up a side window of things that can be adjusted during a render.

What settings did you use? Whenever I've tried using the noise reduction, I get lots of error messages in the log file, and I couldn't tell whether is was doing anything or not.

WARNING: dzneuraymgr.cpp(256): Iray ERROR - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.0 IRAY rend error: Degraining filter cannot be combined with "black pixel filter".

I don't see anything like that. I do believe I saw a resume button once when I canceled a render. I will experiment with that later, right now I am not going to risk it. I will wait, it is just about to finished.

YAY....we have a new man in the store.

This is Timothy HD a new character from Raiya http://www.daz3d.com/timothy-hd-for-michael-6 and he comes with Iray shader skin textures.

Raiya is one of my favourite PA's and I was really impressed with her previous male character Gareth HD, and submitted quite a few renders of him. http://www.daz3d.com/gareth-hd-for-michael-6

However, I personally feel Raiya has again 'upped the stakes' with this highly detailed skin texture. The detail of the eyes, body hair, navel and skin texture is amazing, and all Iray ready.
To test this character, I just loaded him 'straight out of the box' and rendered in Iray using the DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro 'Ruins' HDRI.

    Thank you Raiya,

    :-)

I have been playing with this on and off for a couple of days now. I have used the default water shader but it doesn't seem right.

I think it's lovely. And a nice use of depth of field also.

I know it has been a while since we could render in a docked window so I have may missed it when it returned. How did you get a docked Render window? The only choice I have in the General Render setting is New Window or to File
