Thanks for the input folks! I started a render.. trying to emulate an aurora borealis.. just a simple scene with few elements.. my focus is the HDRI as that is what I am studying; and have developed a fascination with--snatched a bunch of Bryce stuff during March Madness. I am close to owning everything
... I didn't know you could save during a render, that would be helpful and thanks Horo, I will fiddle with those settings.. hopefully the lighting videos and scenes I bought will help as well.. I love that Bryce does a fairly decent job of saving them too.
But seriously the last time I went in and tried to render this aurora scene it showed 17 hours for a render..and like you mentioned NGartplay, I saved out several versions. I let one version sit for 4 hours and it was still going!!! I think this is because I was trying to get some stars in there too. I haven't been able to figure out how to do a starfield that looks decent.. most of the stars always look too large.
Anyways, here is what I came up with and finally able to render in a shorter period thanks to you all help-I gave up on the starfield I tried to sneak in there. The second pic is a photo I took the coloring and inspiration from, I thought it was quite beautiful, and wanted to emulate it--there's a lot more tweeking I would need to do to get the coloring right in the HDRI...but a fun learning curve
Beautifully done Aurora, PixelPie. I also had problems with stars till I bought The Space Construction Kit by Horo and David. Have fun that's what Bryce is all about, fun and more fun.
PixelPie - Very nicely done aurora borealis render. Indeed, Bryce stars are are too large, like small planets. The Space Construction Kit mermaid mentions has 2D-Faces with small stars - I had made them years ago because I was not happy with the Bryce stars. Render time also depends how Maximum Ray Depth is set (default 6, 3 or 4 are very often good). Sometimes Premium at 9 Rays per Pixel is faster than Regular, it also shows the approximate render time, while Regular shows the time to render without anti aliasing and that can take even much longer sometimes, but sometimes it is faster.
Thanks folks.. I'll have to get that Space kit and use it! I can't tell you the hours I have spent messing with stars.
2nd experiment but I didn't completely anti alias-(probably would have went on a few more hours) on this and with a little post toning ... even with that I couldn't sharpen the stars much so I gave up..Good to know about the stars
Very nice version, PixelPie.
Nicely done PixelPie.
In the world centre an Icosahedron made in Wings3D and rotated, with some transparency with a high refraction index and some reflection. Around the object a big sphere with white diffuse, transparency and reflection. Light from inside by an HDRI and from outside through the sphere as well. A bit of negative light by the sun to enhance the contrast.
Awesome work, Horo, when I tilt the phone, see an alien face, so cool.
Thank you mermaid - so cool that you can see an alien face.
PixelPie, beautiful!!!!!
Horo, the colors and shapes make this a lovely render.
Horo: What more can I say? Your skill and imagination in renderings of all kinds is amazing. I hope one day I can be like you. One of them reminded me of the movie The Monolith Monsters (the geek in me came out, I know).
mermaid010: Your abstract reminds me of an album cover I won't mention, but it's really cool. The landscape with the flying eagle conveys calm and tranquility. The sculptures look more like awards of some kind, maybe Oscars from another planet (my hidden geek came out again, hehe).
NGartplay: Your abstract with the hand holding that sphere is really cool. The table with the chrome Earth looks very Salvador Dalí-esque.
PixelPie: The aurora looks good; I liked how you improved it in the second attempt. And yes, the Space Kit is great. I bought it and it's been really helpful.
Best regards, friends, I'll join the render parade later.
Horo - Fantastic water scene ! Martian Colony City is superb ! Icosahedron is marvellous !
Mermaid - Steve- Sculpture forms are wonderful !
PixelPie - Aurora Borealis scenes are stupendous !
Thank you NGartplay, Teobaldo and Bunnyip02.
Thanks Teobaldo and Bunyip02
The setup is a waterfall by David, the terrain material and Hdri also by David – Cloudscape 4. Realistic waterfalls are difficult to achieve but David did an awesome job with this set. The dove a freebie.
mermaid - beautifully done wild waterfall and the creek below.
Double stacked self made terrain from Grand Mountains with materials from High Resolution Terrains 1 and 4. Sky and ambient light by an HDRI from Sunless HDRI Skies and the key light by the sun.
mermaid, the color in the image makes it pop. Water looks great.
Horo, love the water erosion paths going down the mountains. Very realistic.
Thanks Horo and NGartplay
Horo - beautiful valley, I agree with NGartplay the erosion is awesome.
Thank you NGartplay and mermaid.
All, I saw some really good and interesting renders. Unfortunately, I have been ill for a couple of weeks, so cannot react to all entries individually. Hope to be creating renders myself soon again.
Hansmar - thank you. Get back to full health soon.
Hansmar- thanks, praying for a speedy recovery and hoping to see your work soon.
mermaid - Waterfall is wonderful !
Horo - Grand Mountains is exquisite !
Hansmar - Hope you get back to full health to play with Bryce and do some superb renders !
Thank you Bunyip02.
The faces with the material are by David Brinnen from Bryce Pro Material Showcase 2. They are within a reflecting one-way cube (two cubes exactly at the same position grouped, one positive and the other negative), see Bryce Mentoring- Videos, Scenes and Resources. Light by an unpublished HDRI. Rendered with Maximum Ray Depth 20 and Depth of Field. The memories get darker, more blurred and disappear.
Thanks Bunyip02
A unique result Horo magnificent render.
Thank you mermaid.
mermaid010: Your waterfall scene is very good. The red color makes me think of a terraformed Mars.
Horo: The mountainous landscape reminds me of the views in the Cajón del Maipo in my city, very well done. The faces look somewhere between mysterious and infinite, like a multidimensional mold of a face.
Hansmar: Take care of yourself and recover slowly, you'll be back here.
This is my last spatial render. I'm still not happy with the effect of the nozzle flames, but if I keep thinking about it, I'll never finish.
Bryce 7.1, Daz3D ship and Deep Space HDRI.
"All right, guys", said the captain, "we're approaching the strange object captured by the telescopes. Hold on tight, we'll just make a pass over it before getting any closer."
The crew listened to the woman's calm words, hoping that the strange warping of space beyond the structure wasn't an indication of some unknown danger.
Thanks Teobaldo, beautiful space scene. Our renders look similar though they are different, that comes with using backdrops from the same product. Unfortunately I don’t a story to tell with my render.
The space ship is the Bird of Prey by Gruaro-Sharecg, the backdrop an Hdri from the Deep Space 1
Teobaldo - thank you. Your space scene looks very nice.
mermaid - very nicely done space scene.
I spent my store credit on a few Stonemason products. I think his models are amazing. Of course I had to try one out straight away. It's called Derelict_Urban. I then added a Bryce tree to it.
I used the sky as HDRI. Quality of the HDRI = 512. Next to it the light comes from the sun, I increased the intensity quite a bit to 220.
