PixelPie, I was so excited to have you join our last challenge.  I hope that you post more of your enjoyble work.  It made me smile and I don't smile a lot lately.

A plant (Bryce tree) from Vegetation and 15 instances. They stand on a grass-terrain by David Brinnen. The high grass in the foreground is a Bryce tree after an idea by SlepAlex. The waving hobgoblin is the Gremlin. Background and ambient light by an unpublished HDRI and the key light by the sun.

Sad day for me as well - downloaded heaps of goodies from them, also sad in that lots will be lost. As for my goodies I am thinking CGTrader but there is also Renderosity ....

Aw, they were so popular for many years.  It is a sad day.  The world is changing.

That ShareCG is closing is not at all welcome.

Four self made terrains, in front one for the water with a self made material, in the back three for the land with a material from High Resolution Terrains 1. The ship is the HMS Victory. Sky and clouds by the CloudSphere6 from the Sky Toolbox, the ambient light by the belonging HDRI and the key light by the sun.

    Land Ahoy!

Like NGartplay said, the world is changing. Recently I went to download something by Herminio Nieves and found none of his work is available. I have an account at Renderosity, but only visit if someone posts a link here, It's not user friendly in my opinion. CGtrader I've never been there.

I downloaded the Herminio Nieves props I wanted before they got pulled. As for ShareCG itself, it felt frozen in the first decade of the new millennium. Just as well I've spread my own freebie creations across multiple sites, in case one of them decides to call it quits.

wow I didn't know that Bunyip02, sharecg is closing, that is too bad.. as for renders, I had one started and bumped my computer and lost the render.. I don't know why the HDRI use takes so long, maybe I'll try fiddling with the document size to get it to render shorter than 2 hours lol

  • HoroHoro Posts: 11,335

PixelPie - a HDRI has many lights and the more light sources are in a scene the longer the render takes, most of the time is needed to create the shadows. Quite often 16 lights are enough (Quality 16 - render time doubles if Quality is doubled). Most of my renders use an HDRI so I get better ambient light but I seldom use more than 16 - sometimes 64 to 128. Depending on the scene, you can also disable Cast Shadows for the HDRI (in the IBL tab) this makes the render much faster. The result is still better than to use a bright (white) Sky Dome or Sun/Moon Shadows lower than 100.

    Thank you DeepRed.

PixelPie, be sure to always save as you go along.  You can go back and delete all the unneeded saves after everything is complete.  I save like this:  abstract-1.br7.  Next is 'save as' and it will automatically come up as 'abstract-2.br7' so you don't need to physically change the number.

You can also save a render halfway through.  It's scary the first time but I've done it and it works.  I click on the render as it's rendering to stop it.  Then I save my scene.  Just click the big blue render button to restart it.

Double stacked self made terrain with materials from High Resolution Terrains 2 & 4. The building is the Martian Colony City by Herminio Nieves (2013), the aircraft the Patrol Spaceship1 by Angel Estevez (2006), the moon was self made. Sky, ambient light and the Orion Nebula M42 by an HDRI from the Deep Space HDRI 2 and the key light by the sun.

    Thank you NGartplay.

mermaid - beautifully presented golden objects.

  • NGartplayNGartplay Posts: 3,372

mermaid, really like the objects and gold mat.  The background texture looks very cool with those colors accenting it.
