Found a bunch of my 'notes' I did up while imagining what I wanted to do with the two corridors I've put together so far this year so I thought I'd throw a quick process set of images together so you can see how my madness comes out. I do up a LOT of these usually before I settle on something I like. You can see it a bit in the Pre-Refit TOS style corridors where I went through from left to right to get the look I wanted. It's a bit of a jumble but it helps me sort it out before I sit down and try to model it out.

Right now, both corridor pieces are sitting in the same build file scene in Truespace in a huge lump of polygons, but that way I could make sure the two corridors were exactly the same size. ;)

And then of course how that mess all comes together with the help of a render engine that makes my mess look good ;)

I'm putting together a 'prop' that's going to go into a revamped Transporter Room so I'll take better screenshots with a better explanation of my amateur hour.

Resized the dress for G3F (made sure to not mess up the uv mapping), and played with shaders for the main dress material.

Love the fit change for the outfit. Looks great JamesJAB!

Been playing around making props again, this is a bit bigger as far as props go and is going to feature in some way shape or form in a small revamp of the Transporter Room I built last year. While I could just make it work and make it look even more like the real set, I like to experiment too much. I'm working on a progress set to go with this since I took screenshots as I built it so you can see it go from my scribbles on a label to the finished render here along with some explanations as to what exactly I'm doing and what led to my choices while I built it. This isn't exactly as I'd drawn it up, but it's damned close.

Based off the Transporter Buffer you can find on a lot of the deck plans floating around out there, this one has a lot of the same characteristics on the outside. I wanted an inside to go with it, like say there's a problem with the buffer and they need to check for a bad storage circuit, they pop over to the control console, enter the commands to take the main Transporter offline, then have the control circuits lift out so you can give them a manual look see. I haven't done up any graphics for the console yet. Some of it is just going to be a monitor like you'd see on the side of a server in a network room, the rest will be controls and diagnostics.

Right now my Chief of Operations is wondering why she's looking at this instead of the Chief Engineer. Sorry, Emily, I haven't updated her uniform to the new version yet and I think people may be tired of seeing my Security Chief right now. :P

The room in the image is quite literally something I built in about 10 minutes in Truespace to have a 'test' room with little to no load time to, well, test props and characters in. I do have a bit of corridor attached to it so it could become a real room, but it's pretty unremarkable and tiny.

You're not the first to point it out lol

All I can say is it wasn't intentional but if you're going to have something keep your molecular data safe before transporting across space, the TARDIS is the thing to do it ;)

Maybe that's why away teams always end up going where they are needed instead of where they want to go?

Interesting theory. Also why only a Scotsman can get the thing to work correctly. ;)

I would make some comment about never seeing Scotty and The Doctor in the same place, but The Doctor seems to make a habit out of visiting himself. :P

I know I said I was going to put together a quick progress thing for my Transporter Buffer, but I just haven't been up to it this week. Had to say goodbye to one of our cats I rescued 5 years ago and I haven't really been in the mindset to putting thoughts down on paper.

I have however started revamping my Transporter Room set. I can get into my modeling and just not think about things, so this helps. This particular version is for the Destroyer I'd started with the corridors previously. Pretty much the only thing I'm keeping of the old set for this is the actual alcove and overall proportions. The Destroyer version won't have an armory or lounge and is going to be the halfway between look from TOS to TMP. The buffer is going to be accessible off to the side through some grating.

I did up the transporter matrix grating this afternoon when I just wanted to blow through. Then I really wanted to test it in DAZ cause what looks good in Truespace can often look terrible when I import it without tweaking. It's probably going to be slow going with things but I am slowly poking at my progress images.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have two cats, brothers, that I rescued. They are about 6 now. One, Grant, is very sweet and is a lap cat. The other, Ted, is kind of a dick. Great work on the transporter room.

Made some more progress on my dress. (still trying to find shader settings to mimic the original velure fabric)  Added the rank braids as bands sewn onto the sleves with textures and transparancy maps.  I think that I may be getting close to releasing the dress to the world as a Marvelous Designer garment file + instructions on exporting to obj + a full set of material presets and textures for Daz Studio.

Thanks. Yeah it was completely unexpected. We lost another last year but she'd been diagnosed with cancer so we knew we were losing her, this one was just out of the blue.  Still have one cat who's attempting to make up for there not being three cats anymore by upping his attention demands.

I'm just going to leave this here. laugh

New trailer for Star Trek Discovery claims that it's coming this fall!

And I think that I figured out why Studio was trying to eat the edges of my Starfleet badge.  Seems to be working correctly after setting all the surfaces to quads in MD then exporting to .obj file.
Setting the rank braids onto their own polygons fixed a texturing issue that I was fighting with too.  Now they don't have to share the same shaders as the rest of the dress

Sorry to hear about the kitty, it's always sad when they go.  Look at the bright side, You gave that kitty five years of happiness that he/she would not have had without you.  Try to focus on the good times and celebrate the life instead of focusing on the death.  I've got one who was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago.  Her blood sugar is currently being kept in check via a low carb diet, but we know that at some point it's not going to work anymore and we will need to face letting her go (my wife and I are strongly against having a misirable isulin dependant animal).

Yeah definitely are. Just got so used to having him looking for attention or hanging around that it's a big void now that he's not there. Actually, that cat had 5 years because we rescued him. When I brought him in he was so malnourished that the vet thoguht if he'd gone the night he wouldn't have recovered. He was just a little kitten then, probably just off weaning and not very big. They thought he might be lame but getting food in him allowed his leg to heal. He also had fleas so bad that we thought he was brown and black not white and black because of all the blood.  He was in rough shape. But he got a good solid five years of room and board and love, so there is that. Still a bit rough.

I hope the diet works for a good long while for yours.

And yeah I've watched that Discovery trailer 5 or 6 times and watched dissection videos going into detail more than I care to admit. ;)

So, I ditched the "unified texture" and organized all the components to have their own maps.  Will make for much smaller file sizes and higher detail level on all the parts.
Here are a few renders showing the higher detail rank brais and insignia (completely new texture map going for more of the look of the embroidered patch from the series)

Now instead of having everything on a monster sized 6400x8000 texture the rank and insignia are on 1500X2000 files and I will do 1000x1000 tiled for the main fabric.

I also adjusted the size on the braids.

Added a couple of renders showing the Ops and Science textures + Insignias

Guess I'll add another render.  This time someone seems to have ended up on the wrong bridge... Or would that be right bridge wrong time?

If you hadn't said it was based off one of the reboot characters I wouldn'y have known quite who you were going for, but it's a pretty good first attempt. If she was in a scene with the others and in uniform it'd be easy to tell.

A couple of details that might help... The neck looks too short and you may be narowing the top of her skull to quickly.
Do you have a profile shot yet?

    Boots boots boots boots!
Any suggestions for a good set of boots that look like the Original Series female boots?
Can be either a free or paid item and needs to be for Genesis 3.

  • I've tried adjusting the height of her forehead, as well as the width. Also tried to extend the neck some. Also included a profile though the color tended to go a bit wonky.

    That's much closer to her.

The one on the right for sure. The left has potential but first blush, the one on the right.

Got back to tinkering with the Destroyer Transporter Room. Before I get any further, that Transporter console in my test render is a transplant from the TMP Transporter room I built last year. I haven't settled on a design for the Destroyer's console yet but it's going to be more TOS in shape and less TMP.

This view of the Destroyer's Transporter Room though is taken from inside the Buffer Access room off to the side or just outside of the grating there. I haven't settled on the blue color yet, but it's growing on me. I may still trying the pink-ish purple that the TOS set used just for fun. I'm thinking some kind of grating for the floor or maybe adding in some warnings on the floor about keeping distance or not going beyond the line could be hazardous to extraneous limbs or something like that. Kind of like the warning on the floor of the shuttlebays about variable gravity. The wall panels that are exposed are loosely based off the vacuum formed floor pattern that got put down on the floor in the TMP Transporter Room and used throughout the Refit Enterprise, in the background in Trek II and III and throughout Next Gen's first season too. I also decided to cut down on the size of the room and brought the back wall way up to the console cutting off almost 10ft or more of the TMP set size.

Decided to do a fun render of my ST IV brdge set that took forever.....
If you have a 360* image viewer like RICOH Theta you can look at my bridge set as if you are standing in the middle.
No chairs in this render, and lots of placeholder screen and console textures.

I'm going to go against popular opinion on this one and say the one on the left.
