Haven't used Hexagon that much. I just always thought it was Carrara's ugly step sister. I've always gotten much better results out of Carrara.
I've had Hex since it first came out before it belonged to Daz and have only been able to use it once on a project.
I think it'll crash if you look at the screen wrong or think about doing something with it
More progress on the new bridge, built the turbolift door walls.
And here is the security station so far.
Which bridge drawing are you going off of for this? It's looking great by the way :)
The floor, ralings, helm/nav console, and the inner ceiling are all being recycled from my old bridge. everything else is being built from scratch using scans from the "1701 U.S.S. Enterprise Bridge Blueprints" book (Drawn by Lawrence Miller). Has both Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan layouts. All the changes for the Voyage Home bridge are being created from scratch using the little tiny glimpse we get of it at the end of the movie and a couple of production photos I found online.
I was a good ways long on an original(ish) bridge design when Hexagon crashed on me. Now it won't open at all. I really like the UI, it's very easy for me to understand, but it's so glitchy.
I was hoping to get it done so I could could share it with everyone, including IRAY settings. It's the size of Ptrope's Enterprise 1701 bridge set, but the concept modern - post Voyager and TNG. I'm a fan of symmetry, so I have the main screen at 12 o'clock, the doublewide turbolift doors at 6 o'clock and single wide access doors at 3 and 9. each quadrant holds 2 touch screen work stations with the helm/nav and captain in the middle - mostly like the 1701 layout.
What other (hopefully free) programs do you guys use besides Hexagon?
Haven't used this in a very long time but you might give this a look

The security wall is prety much complete, it even has good uvmapping for the screens and console.
Speaking of consoles and screens, anyone know of a good souce for, or would be willing to make screen and console textures for the Star Trek IV version of the Enterprise A bridge?
Too bad all those are in flash, so you can't just download the pics
This might be helpful

I knew of another site that had a gallery of bridge station images. I used it once but can't seem to remember the where. I'm hoping I bookmarked it.
There was someone who worked on the making the screens for the Voyage Home Bridge for the game Bridge Commander game a few years ago. He did a couple of screens of the Enterprise A Bridge. I don't know if he finished them, but I know that he might be willing to release them if you need them. I got the displays of the TMP Enterprise Bridge from him for use for my story a couple years ago.
Here is the Communications station, I have a bit of an oops that I need to fix. I put all the things a bit too low on the wall, the console needs to clear the chair arm rests.
*edit* Picture number 2 has the adjusted console position and was rendered using f/stop and focal length settings. :P (don't mind the open seam in the ceiling, wall sections are not in their filaized locations yet.)
Looking good!
Wish I had more time right now or I'd offer to help with the screen/console textures.
I tossed the doors in place for the turbolifts, and did a couple of renders showing normal operation lighting and red alert lighting.
My light fixtures have both a red light and a white light in each housing. Each one is also lined with a reflective metal for more realistic light projection.
All I can say is WOW
I have to say this is looking awesome!
Geez JamesJAB, that is one amazing looking bridge! very nice work!
No new work on the bridge itself, but here is a nice render with chairs added.
Hey guys!
Lots of awesome stuff in this thread.
A wishlist request for you Daz starship model guys. I'd love to see the Ares (from Axanar, it's in 3ds max) ported over to Daz! There's a few other designs featured in Prelude as well, but I'm not sure if any of those made it out into the wild yet.
Metlesitsfleetyrards also has the Preluide version of the D6, (it's also in 3ds max).
With appropriate permissions secured beforehand of course!
I gather you have not visited ShareCG in the last week or two. Rbug02 got permission to convert both vessels you've mentioned to .OBJ format.
https://www.sharecg.com/v/87935/browse/5/3D-Model/Axinar-Ares-and-D6-Combo.
DAZ Studio can still import .OBJ files, can't it?
Sincerely,
Bill
Does make me wish that the guys who put the parts they didn't convert over to the battle bridge for Next Gen in storage had secured the damned tarp.
Toying with an idea I had for a holographic console. I just needed a chair and a figure and these were handy :P It'd need something other than LCARS though, but these were also handy.
That was actually what I was thinking of for the Captain's/XO/guest Chair. It is an interesting idea though for the consoles up front too.
There is a little bit of method to the madness here as the console has a built in power suplly for the holo-emitter so if bridge power is cut in combat or an accident you still have control over the ship. That and I admit it started with converting the helm/ops consoles from TNG over to a holo console and it kind of evolved from there. lol
Oh, I never noticed that before... They did use elements of it in TNG. battle bridge and various other ships including the Stargazer. They even used the blue and silver upholstered versions of the chairs on the Stargazer set.
*edit* lol... I broke the quote
Yep. Parts of the TMP bridge made it through most of TNG as various bridges until they completely revamped the Battle Bridge and converted it to the Bozeman and Enterprise C. Even then I think they still used pieces of it after that. The shell of the corridor sets made it all the way through Voyager. :)
