Thanks!
Thank you! Yeah it's a little hard to resist putting a lot of junk on them when you're building it. 'This looks to plain!' but it works :)
Trying out a new 'old' corridor design. Sometime before the refit in 2270 but after the launch of the Big E in 2245. Also my edit to make my V4 character an Orion. Think I need to tone down the ambient color a bit on her.
This corridor looks great but my personal preference is the other hallway you made. Can't really put my finger as why but it seems to be wider. Also is your Orion Gamma infused :)
Well the other one is a classic design ;) For this I took that triangle doorway from TOS and based a straight corridor off the shape for this part of it. It's actually the same width and height as the other radial corridor, but yeah it's a bit more cramped. The concentric curved corridor version is going to be a bit less cramped cause it'll have straight up an down walls instead of angled ones. This is definitely what I consider the 'B' side corridor for ships that aren't the 'hero' of the story so you can set the action apart instantly but still look like the ship's got similar DNA.
Heh. I think she might be gamma infused. ;) Yeah I set the ambient skin color way too bright. I'll have to tone it down. It looks great when you're not rendering it, but the preview window isn't always wysiwyg.
From what you said here I can understand the design a little more as well as the optical illusion that this one seems narrower, its the lack of a buldge in the middle that gets you, Its more of a working corridor instead of a main travel corridor, so that would make sense.
For some reason I'm getting a strong Battlestar Galactica vibe.
Seriously, though, it's looking fantastic!
Yup, exactly it. Transporter access would be off of it and maybe a turbolift or two and Jefferies Tube Access. Definitely not your main travel area.
LOL. I just realized that it's pretty close to the shape they used there. Well from memory anyway. Been a long time since I watched that.
But thanks! :)
Built the concentric corridor base piece for the 'Destroyer' that follows the shape of the saucer. I'm thinking I'll make a version of it without the pipes as having them every ten feet feels really excessive to me. I also have to carve it up to add doors for rooms off the corridor, but I wanted to see how it looked with proper lighting and a character in it so into DAZ it went. Changed up the ambient color on my Orion so she's not quite as radioactive too.
Looking good!
Awesome work as always :)
for anyone interested.....Projects posted for downloads....

Ashefivekay, Jamesjab:
really impressive work you've done!!!
Thank you :)
Thanks!
Thanks! Your outfits and com and rank badges are still finding their way into my stuff and will for a long while :)
Was playing around with lighting, and decided to dust off my TOS uniform dress.
Awesome :D
Absolutely gorgeous, lighting and character are very impressive.
-- Walt Sterdan
The lighting is a simple two spotlight setup with a cool light (7500k) on the right and a warm light (2000k) on the left. The background is just a few primatives with materials so the light has something to interact with. The character is just Bethany 7 with a couple of slight adjustments.
Is that the texture set you made for V4 couragous or a custom clothing item? It looks like the collar has more dimmension and more wrinkles in the sleeves that you'd see with courageous. Great render, bu the way. Understand it's just a couple of lights but the placement is great, really adds depth and a bit of drama to the scene.
The Dress is made and draped in Marvelous Designer. I made it based on the real dress pattern. I have it upladed on sharecg, unfortunately when converted to dynamic for Daz Studio, the collar gets destroyed during draping.
That corridor reminds me more of what Phase II or even TOS might have looked if they have a little more of a budget back when the series started.
Since this dress will probably never work corectly in Daz Studio (unless they completely revamp the dynamics), I have gone and added in a detail that I knew would not work right in Studio. The extra skirt flap, both front and back. Here are a few quick renders. (draped in Marvelous Designer, exported as a prop, then renderd in Daz Studio.
*whistles innocently* I can say that was what I initially was going for when I started sketching it up on paper. Something that looked like it had a budget and would fit into the look of the TMP redesign but still had that TOS feel, especially since it's going in a Destroyer/Scout that was built during the latter portion of TOS before the Connie ever got her refit.
I can't believe I just sketched up ideas for a bridge for this in a similar style. I've created a monster!
Sometimes you just got to go where that monster takes you, sometimes it can be a pretty cool place :)
I second that! :D
Guh!
BAD! Bad influences the both of you! :P
That's what we're here for. :P
Some work on some alternate panels, a couple of pictures for background scene props and a test render of the Doctor's Office in the refit Sickbay (Thanks again Ashley :) )
Just a fun little render of my TOS Dress, playing with material settings.
And can't forget to thank Ptrope for the wonderful bridge set.
Oh yeah, I forgot. I did a drape of that using VWD and it worked okay but not perfect. However the trick with VWD for static renders would be to exclude the collar and the badge from the caculations, they wouldnt lose shapw but the skirt would drape and you'd get wrinkles in the right places. In my quickie render I just draped the whole thing but added stiffness to the collar and badge, worked okay for the collar, badge/insignia looked like it was some sort of inflatable stick-on instead of a sewn on patch. That could probably be fixed with some adjustments but easier to just not simulate it. Problem is this wouldn't work with animations. But it was usable in Daz Studio using VWD, and better results would be achievable with a little tweaking of settings, I think. The only reason I didn't experiment on it more was that it was sized for Bethany 7, which I do not have. Made getting a good fit a bit harder. But overall, great work and your renders with it look awesome!
The biggest issue I was having in with Studio's dynamic engine was that no matter how ridgid I set the collar, within 30 - 50 frames it would flatten out then procede to explode into a shower of triangles everywhere. The insignia I have fixed... at least in MD, it is now sewn all the way onto the dress, instead of just being tacked on. Unfortunately that makes it not work well in Studio dynamics.
