Been working on some new stuff and designs for the story. Finally decided on the Era I wanted to place this story in since no one really touches the early TMP era and redesigned some of the characters and added some new ones.

Early TMP soudns like fun. :) I remember loving the Marvel comics that were out and set during that era after I found them in my comic shops back stock in the mid-80s.

Is yours before the events in the film then?

Takes place almost a year after V'ger. Enterprise is already on her second five year mission under Kirk. Forrestal was one of the next ships in line to be launched after. I loved reading the Marvel Comics, especially when they had Star Trek again back in the 90's and released a miniseries that took place during that second five year mission.

Is that my chair getting some love on your bridge scene?  If it is, it looks good on a completed bridge. :P

Definitely! The TMP era is responsible for a lot of what would become Modern Trek. I thought there was some cool about the refit Enterprise Bridge more than the ones that came after it.  I mean it doesn't get a lot of love, but even Data,Riker and Troi owe their creation to Xon, Decker and Ilia. I wish there was more TMP stuff out there. It was epic. And your chair is just as awesome :)

  • Latest update to the Reboot Dr McCoy. Should I make it a freebie, turn it into a product for sale? Right now it's for Genesis 2 Male. Any interest for this version or should I convert it over to Genesis 3 Male?

    Nice work. I don't use G3M, personally.
  • I don't either. I usually set-up my scenes and render in Carrara 8.5. Currently C8.5 can't handle G3M. So I tend to stick to G2M for the time being.

  • Changed out my Phase II chairs for JamesJAB's bridge chairs. They render up nice in DAZ, but the dials don't quite do what they need to get the arm rest or head rest to move right.

And I apparently didn't quite get my chief engineer's arm up enough as it's going through her console... Yeah the main cushion on these chairs is about 2 inches lower than my Phase II chairs so I had to lower most of my characters a bit. And the helm console.

I honestly have no idea what happened with the chair...  Back in the day (2010) when I made them and did the rigging, they worked perfectly.  Must be something with newer versions of Studio handling the old .daz file format?

Anyways... I just uploaded a new version to sharecg that includes a shiny new .duf version for Daz Studio that loads at the proper scale and should pose correctly.

Misty made a great product that allows us to use G3 in Carrara! It's available at that other R place.

Yeah I had put that item in my wishlist. I had forgotten all about it. So if I'm understanding correctly, Janette and Johnathan are morphs for G3 to make G3 usable in Carrara??? The product could use some better promo shots showing it's use in Carrara, IMHO.

I think it's more of a script that converts it to Carrara's mesh technology. I've had good luck with morphs, clothes and poses too.

  • Ok, I'm confused. It's a script but it's listed under "Morphs and deformers"?

I'm not sure. You're probably correct. There was a forum post with the details that was taken down. All I know is it works very well.

I've gotten used to DAZ doing weird things that were built for Poser. I just work with it best I can usually.

I'll download this and give it a shot! Thank you! Your chairs are awesome by the way!

I do like that I don't have to re-size it and it definitely works, but I may end up making it just a bit larger than what it pops in as. So it has the DAZ 4.9 seal of working approval ;)

  • JamesJABJamesJAB Posts: 1,766

Well... That's odd, I could have sworn it was the right size.  I just tested it out myself and needed to size it up to 110% so that it didn't look strange.  I wonder if my whole bridge is a bit too small now.  Here is a test render with a Bethany 7 sitting in the chair (and some random shaders thrown onto the chair).

Interestingly enough I scaled it up to 110% exactly to get to the size that worked with what I had already set up. I also love that you can recline the chair back on these. Makes it so my over-wight Captain can actually sit in the chair and use the leg restraints lol.

Changed out all my chairs on the bridge with the updated fix and here's my reclining Captain needing a diet and the science officer turning hers in concern. :)

These are all at the 110% scaling

Making some pregress on my Motion Picture bridge "Refit".  Finaly got around to building a viewscreen, and found a neat trick using the "emiisive" shader under Iray Uber Defaults.  Under "Emission Color" there is a dropdown where you can choose an image file, so your screen can make a picture and light at the same time.  Second image is a render using the viewscreen as the only souce of light.

That's exactly how all my bridge displays and any computer displays I've built are set up. :)  I'm actually buidling all my sets to be self-lit using just the lights built into them with iRay to make things easier on me. Or anyone else using them really.

Love your viewscreen by the way! It's been the hardest thing to craft for me.

So, I realised that my screen is too wide... :(   On a happy note, here is my redesigned wall section so far.  My new version of the bridge is base on the Original version of the Enterprise A (You know from that 10 second clip at the end of Star Trek IV) With it's cool baseboard lighting, shiny pillars and light paint job.

I really think the shiny bulkheads were just to cover up the seams as I don't think they could get all the bridge pieces to fit together properly after cutting them up to put in the new gel displays. The flooring didn't quite line up either. Still it's a great look for the bridge either way. Matches that shiny new look that Phase IIs original designs had. Have to admit I'm excited to see what you do with this :)

Been working more on the Forrestal sets and with the help of Comic Life I have been trying to put the story together. And Special thanks to ashfivekay for use of her sickbay, corridors and transporter room to help bring the Forrestal to life.

So... OMG...  Why is is so easy to coax Hexagon into crashing...  Am I just going to need to split everything up into smaller files?

Is there a better (inexpensive or free) program with a similar feature set to hexagon, that does not crash all the time and does not make you jump through hoops to set an item's pivot point to the center of the world (that is conveniently forgets about next time you load the file)?  And the crashing shouldn't be a hardware issue, my machine is a bit of a beast. (Dual Xeon X5570's 24GB ram and a GTX 1060)

And here is what it currently looks like in Hexagon. :P

Yay! Glad they could be of use! Going to get that texture set done for the Transporter control and then I think I can release them both. :)

It's not your PC. I loaded up a file, looked away to sneeze once and it crashed without me doing anything. Hexagon is just kind of terribly coded unfortunately. There's a script for DAZ that will change the center portion of an object that I've been using but doesn't necessarily help with the pivot point, just helps making DAZ realize where the center of an imported object is.
