Anyone know where I can get a newer phaser, like the one in the new movies?

  • There is this one, but you'll need to sign up to download it. You'll also need to convert it to an OBJ file: http://www.foundation3d.com/index.php?categoryid=38&p13_sectionid=224&p13_fileid=474

I generally use PoseRay to convert from Lightwave; there's a link in the resources on the first page. Just a fair warning, Foundation 3D has been rather finicky for the last year or so. Sometimes it's slow, sometimes it's completely unresponsive.

I've only seen the pilot for Discovery.  I meant the JJ movies.

I can't use anything from 3D foundation.  I'm too late for that train.

Does anyone remember who made the Klingon sash prop for Michael for I think that Mr Redfern might Madison bruffy might TD Smith might but I need to know so I can get a hold of this person and get permission to have that turned into a figure and put it up as a altered freebee
  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,647

Sorry, I know it wasn't me.  It might be Bruffy as he (she?)  has done a lot of renders with "old school" Klingons (usually based upon Kang's look).  Or, it may be TD Smith.  I really don't know.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I don't know if anyone can help, but I'm after a model of the Yamato (the Sister ship to the Enterprise D). I know there are models of the D out there, but I didn't know if there would be one of the Yamato floating around somewhere. I expect a model of the D could have her registry altered, but I wouldn't know where to begin (plus, the person who uploaded the Enterprise D, might not want their model changed /edited in such a way).

Thanks for any help and, I'm sorry if the post is off-topic.

You can download and use a file made for StarTrek Bridgecommander... a Yamato mesh (Galaxy class starship) with associated textures....

    Download and install  software
    http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope

Download and unzip mesh/texture for USS Yamato from Gamefront (might have to register)
    https://www.gamefront.com/games/bridge-commander/file/uss-yamato

    From Nifscope:

    Import file
    \yamato\data\models\ships\yamato\Galaxy.Nif

    Export file as obj
    USSYAMATO.obj

Copy all texture files "\yamato\data\models\ships\yamato\high"  to same directory as your new mesh "USSYAMATO"

Start Poser and import obj USSYAMATO

You may need to reassign the materials (TGA)  files manually....but it works if you don't want to create your own...

    A question if I may.

How do I get the obj file to recognize the .mtl file to apply the textures?

    Thank you

Nifscope and milkshape  (found in the free links section) on page one of this topic, can convert the nif file and save as obj.  I often manually copy the tga (mat files into the same directory I save the exported obj.  Import the obj and if the textures automatically apply great, otherwise you need to do it manually.  This is from poser, I’m not a daz3d user.

He "resurfaced" very briefly around, uh, two years, maybe a year and a half ago, only to "vanish" again.  his last few e-mails and forum posts implied he was becoming quite intrigued with "Second Life".  He's always been fascinated with animation.  While both Poser and D*Z studio have the tools, I suspect the feature of "real time" animation made "Second Life" far more appealing to the diminutive drake.

I tried a few times right after his latest "departure" but never got a response.  After a while, i stopped trying.  I get the impression he found "greener pastures".

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Captain Picard in a new series? O...M...G. This is the best news I've heard all week. I don't know how they'll explain the timeline continuity. For some reason Patrick Stewart hasn't aged since he stepped off the set of the last show.laugh

Remember Star trek Insurrecton?  Captain Picard got a nice dose of the fountain of youth from planet Ba'ku's rings.

I have to admit I haven't seen insurrection. That's the one with the Picard clone isnt't it? Honestly I havent seen anything since the death of the Enterprise D. I hate to be that guy, but damn I loved that ship.

Dang. I got the two mixed up. I really need to sit down and watch those. And like the first 5 movies or so, I guess. Aside from the show, all I've seen is Generations and First Contact.

    @rschulte & @ Mattymanx

Thank you both for your help and suggestions.

I've downloaded the Enterprise model and added the letters from the 3D Font Pack (which are really impressive).

I've attached a picture. I used the outline of the letters on the Enterprise registry to try and map out where Yamato's might be. Although I think the "USS" and "Yamato" need to be moved closer together.

Again, thank you for your help :)

(And I apologise for the amount of time that it has taken me to respond).

I could to with a bit of advice about a model that I have downloaded from Foundation 3D. I got it a while ago, but I've been trying to convert it to an obj ever since. Its 99mb, so it's too big for any online converter that I've tried. My latest attempt was in PoseRay, But when I try to load the model, PoseRay becomes unresponsive. I think the model was made in lw9 (and updated in lw10). It's not a ship from Star Trek, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest another way that I could try to convert it as I'm out of ideas. Thanks for any help :)

    This one:

    http://www.foundation3d.com/index.php?categoryid=38&p13_sectionid=1&p13_fileid=1634

Everytime I've tried to find out how big the files size is, I've been getting different numbers (so I probably got the file size wrong in my last post).

I know the description says that it needs 4GB RAM to load, but I assume that meant loading it in LW.

I will take a look at it tomorrow afternoon for you and see if it can be converted.  In my past experiance with converting models, some work and some dont.
