Carrara Sale Email Message Alert thread

There's a mistake in the email promotion for SAVE ON THE ANIMALS that I got. If I click on the email, it takes me to  a REV up thingy. See attached image.

So I went to the DAZ  home page and under SHOP, you scroll along the top till you see the big cat.... and the ANIMALS promotion is there.

The "Red Sands Temple" is based on the Khazneh ('The Treasury'), which is the best known of the various monuments at Petra, in Jordan (which Google recently added to Street View).

It's not a precise match -- the most obvious thing is that the model has doors, which no longer exist at the actual site, and the reliefs on the facade are in better condition. It's also more deeply-recessed in the rock wall than the real Khazneh, there are front-facing side doors that don't exist on the real temple, etc. etc. But it's obviously 'inspired by' the Khazneh, and some parts of the model are very faithful indeed.

I recently bought it and rendered a sample image. My problem with the model is that it has areas with a ridiculous amount of polys. I know the promo page mentions that the model is very heavy. There are areas, the surrounding terrain/cliff prop for example, that doesn't need to be such a high resolution. If the added geometry actually added detail to rock face and ground, then perhaps it would be justified, but it does not. It looks pretty smooth and is the least realistic part of the model- the part that just screams, 3D.

Just to say that the training videos are not on sale at the moment as they are published through Infinite Skills, but if you watch out, you never know with all the sales coming and going at the moment! (That's not a hint, I have no insider knowledge of when they may go on sale).

Larsen, who makes a variety of Carrara products (including the Red Sands Temple discussed earlier), is currently flagged with a "get an extra 20% off" banner on the homepage. With the current store-wide 55% off discount, I think that comes to a 65% total discount (depending on how DAZ does the math).

The extra 20% discount isn't being displayed or applied yet, so don't rush to check out -- give DAZ time to sort it out.

As I say, it looks as if the "extra 20%" actually translates to a total 65% discount. Larsen's stuff is quite often in Fastgrab at 70%, so you get to decide whether you want to grab anything you like the look of now, or wait until it eventually shows up in Fastgrab.
