I can understand what people are saying re feeling like MM is ending without any big fireworks (unless Daz 'sets some off' tonight or tomorrow) but if I reflect then tbh personally I'm really happy with MM :) if I think of it overall, I've picked up a lot of great content I couldn't have afforded otherwise and am grateful for that.

I might be benefiting from the fact that I don't have previous years to compare MM 2020 with, but overall for me it's been a great extended sales period :)

I can't compare to former MMs, only compare it to other Sales like PA festival, PC+ sale, Black Friday sale and Christmas sale and MM feels a lot like PA sale. New releases at 40% off, 50% off if you buy 2, and occasionally all of them go on sale too, so you can get stuff by PAs who don't do releases often.

Personally miss the flash sales. I can understand that DAZ won't do them as long as all users have pc+ benefits. That's a huge sale in all itself.

This is has been mostly giftcard weekend, I guess. Doesn't make much sense to me. The pattern, as I've observed it, is giftcard offering then SALE! laugh You know, to put those giftcards to good use. This is day 3 of mostly just giftcards. A couple weeks ago, they had that cool deal where you buy some still-mads (including bonus items) and get a pro pack as a bonus. That was great! I was hoping that would repeat. But who knows what tomorrow will bring? Right now, there is at least a pack of rubber shaders that must go in my cart.

Well, there should be a major character release coming up soon. So, maybe DAZ is promoting gift cards for that

You could be right, Charlie Judge

  • I guess it has been a better than usual MM for me, all things considered. While I couldn't spend big bucks, I did get 18 things off my wishlist - out of 24 products, not counting the Biweekly and PC+ weekly/monthly freebies. I think I bought mostly plants and Dog 8 addons. Plus Mr. Woo and The Brute, which is odd, as I prefer G3.

Still not as well as I often do during the fall/winter sales, which is to be expected since I work mostly with G3 & older and don't buy new pro/starter bundles.

...and there is a stimulus cheque going out to many here in the US so I wonder if there may be a revival of the Stimulus Sale from 12 years ago.

I meant more that many UK workers not working not earning don't have any money and won't be getting any anytime soon.

...just mentioning that there could be another sale on the heels of this one.

I'm glad that a few people out there have enjoyed this sale at least.  When you are building libraries, yeah whenever a fairly decent deal on stuff is being offered, you never know if a better deal might show up later.

For me, what made MM 2017 so awesome, and also April/May of that year, was those moments when discount stacking REALLY kicked in.  There were a couple of times where old content was ending up with prices below 50 cents, or even 25 cents - I remember a few items showing as 7 cents each in my cart after discounts.  I could only push my Daz budget so far though, so I wasn't able to grab everything I might want later, and at the time I didn't really know which items I might want later.

There was a more recent sale with crazy low discounts more recently within the last two years, although just a bit higher than the 2017 discounts I remember, and I remember buying almost everything I could that day that was below say 50 cents in that sale, knowing that such a sale might not come to pass again.  We are talking $200 worth of crazy cheap items (after discounts were factored in), and I remember doing a followup purchase of over $100 during that sale as well when some other stuff went on sale for similarly crazy cheap prices.  I sill passed on a few items that I simply felt I'd never need, but yeah those were HUGE carts... so huge that I was seriously wondering if the cart/store software might break under the strain...

The fact that there are fairly regular 'random' purges of older content from the Daz store just helps reinforce why 'getting it for cheap while you can' has it's merits.

So the 'extra 70% off sale' from this time around has been pretty nice, and this time around there have been a few 'freebies' thrown in here and there via $20 off offers and such, and the flash sales when they happened weren't too bad, but so far I haven't had that 'oh wow' moment that even approaches the feeling I had during the sales I mentioned above.

Sure, those previous sales were for older items, but I'm not afraid to try using older stuff alongside the newer stuff, playing around with newer Iray based shaders on said items as appropriate or maybe doing some photoshop work, if I felt like I got a sceamin' good deal on said older items, hence making it worth taking the chance.

So while I appreciate that we even get sales on stuff of course, yeah my assessment for this year is definitely still March Meh-ness, for the reasons stated above.

Edit: looked up my post from that magical day when I had 227 items in my cart.  My total that day, it was a V4 sale in March of 2018, was around $125, which included a few more expensive items I went ahead and splurged on, along with the 'uber sale' items.

...made my last MM purchase for the year just a short while ago.  Zev0's Fit Control for G3F (odd that I din't already have it) and a couple PC items to use April Save6 coupon  to knock the total price down to just over 12$ (Fit Control is something like 33$ normally). Even though I missed out on the first week's specials (was too low on finances that close to the end of the month) I feel I still made out pretty well, particularly with the recurring PC+ coupon and The Vicky/Banana Costume deal.

...with mine, I'll be able to pay off a couple bills I'm behind on from when my SS benefits were being garnished.(long story) as well as get a few things needed for the kitchen like a new electric can opener (to replace the one that died) so that I don't have to keep torturing my arthritic wrists, a small chopper/food processor as hand chopping is becoming more difficult, and a new foldable bamboo dish rack as the old one is falling apart.

I know spent more on this March Madness than in previous years, but that was mainly because I decided to be more assertive about buying older items from vendors I like, with a special focus on sets and environments. There were a lot of really spectacular buys on big sets that I'd passed on in the past and PAs like First Bastion, The Ant Farm, Merlin, Muze, Ansiko, as well prop builders like Maclean, got a lot of catalog love this year.  Of course, that direction was also partially determined by the fact that I've nearly hit the end of the line with DAZ Originals, as there only two thousand D.O.s left that I don't own and most of those are add-on texture sets or poses, so a lot of the "buy two of these to get a free D.O." type promotions just weren't as appealing to me this year as they have been in the past.

It sounds very much like I'd like to swim in your amazing content library (haha)

...yeah with G3 having run its course and just about every new clothing item being dForce, I'm pretty much down to sets, props, environments, and resource content. Picked up a number of nice sets this sale.

Some PA's are still doing G3 + G8 products. They aren't common by any means, but I've appreciated their efforts when they've done this, and have been willing to bump my comfort range on said purchases since it's sorta kinda a '2 for 1' thingie...

I like these also. Since I'm a G3 person, I get the most use out of that half of the products, but I can also use them for the times when I do use my limited G8 content. I think the only Mad item I bought was that G3/G8 pose set I mentioned upthread.

G8 outfits are surprisingly easy to convert to G3. Hair can be fitted to any character. Skin: It seems as long as uv is standard, skin textures (the jpg maps) are interchangeable. There might be some busy work to make sure both characters are supported with one-button application of features. Somebody who has done more with G8 and G3 skins could say more about that. Morphs: https://www.daz3d.com/character-converter-from-genesis-8-female-to-genesis-3-female https://www.daz3d.com/character-converter-from-genesis-8-male-to-genesis-3-male

Looks like G8 stuff can live in a G3 world.

Autofitting shoes doesn't go well more often than not.  The change from 'T' to 'A' pose seems to mess with these more than you'd think it would.

I'd love to backport the Amazing Morphing Boots to G3F after doing the heel size adjustments, etc., but the couple of times I tried, yeah it wasn't pretty... after trying a few times to port shoes across, I've pretty much given up.

Other items of clothing usually work better, as does hair, but there have been a few times when shirts end up too high if the target character is shorter, and I've lost hair adjustment morphs a number of times when shifting hair between G3F and G8F.  Hair usually behaves with the adjustment morphs, but not always.

That's my experience anyways.  Also, V4 to G8 is a bit more problematic.  I pull V4 outfits forward to G3F often enough, and have had fairly good luck.  G8F seems to be a bit too far though, although it does still work sometimes.  I have purchased a few autofit products, but haven't seen any good ones for G8F so far.

The clothing converter and character converter scripts can also be hit or miss, although they may be getting better.

Now, swapping G3F/M with G8F/M skin textures seems to work well enough at least.  Except for the eyebrow thing, that gets a bit weird sometimes.

In short, it's just better when a PA makes a G3F + G8F product, as it saves me time and potential headaches more often than not.

...I always manually load and parent hair as that preserves the morphs and adjustments and is a lot easier than manually fitting clothing.  Been doing so for years with older hair I still like to use.

As to the clothing converter scripts, I agree.I have the G8F - G3F converter and when I tired to convert the Gothy Punk outfit, only the pants and boots would convert not the shirt, hoodie, or belts.

What someone really needs to make is a unversal set of prop feet that can be attached to any figure's existing feet and have the proper rigging for all the various generations.

still don't get why people don't bake rotations and change scene identification before fitting

    autofit is crap

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,844

...it's not perfect, true, but far better than back in the old Gen3/4 days as clothing converters were even more so "hit or miss" and you needed to purchase separate licences for every character you used or converted from.
