    I looked into this:

The normal centaur includes a horse bit, human bit, and a geoshell that blends the transition.

The blended transition has a 'torso' surface that has a horse skin and Centaur UV.

The problem is that the human torso is (usually) Base Male UV.

Blendy has only one UV to set... so you EITHER have to convert the centaur torso textures to Base Male UV, or you have to convert the human torso textures to Centaur UV.

This is certainly something a user can do on their own (transfer maps Centaur -> Base Male). Also, if someone were to create their own horse texture maps for centaur, you can set things up this way.

If I ever create centaur textures, I'll probably do it this way and use Blendy.

I realise that it might be too niche to be profitable, but I'd be sold on a product that does this automatically!

I’ve considered it but the problem is that I would have to convert some centaur textures to human uv and there are some potential permission issues.

That said, I’m investigating whether I could do this...

A Thanks for letting me know, that you have not such problems with centaurs, GlenWebb.

It looks like my Daz Studio and its content is screwed up on my computer.

First I have lost all my custom actions and all bookmarks from https://www.daz3d.com/mf-content-bookmarks

Now I have discovered, that I have lost also some characters, like Victoria 8.

I could not even find in the content characters just recently installed via DIM centaur https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-male-centaur

Something is wrong and it is no fun anymore, to fix it.

Need to look through, what updates or content I have installed via DIM or from zips.

This is not centaur related but I’m having similar problems with DS 4.11. Every time it crashes (which is often!) it corrupts all my custom scripts which have taken hours each time to set up again and this is driving me crazy and tech support hasn’t figured out a solution yet and my smart content is glitchy with some items disappearing and reappearing and some have metadata that don’t work although CS says it works fine when they try it. This is becoming so frustrating that sometimes I wonder if I should have just stuck with Poser and V4! All the money I would have saved...

Not sure if you've tried this but perhaps when you get your custom scripts set up again export them out unless your talking about the Script dropdown menu.

Yes, the script drop down menu. Is there a way to save that?

Not sure, there should be a way.  I think there is talk about some merge and save thing that was added in 4.11 and up...

I’ll have to ask tech support in my open ticket that is taking forever to resolve...

Yes, the script drop down menu. Is there a way to save that?

Have you tried saving your layout?

    • From the main menu, Window > Workspace > Save Layour As… (or just press F4)
    • Give the Layout a name in the dialog window. Actions, Menus and Toolbars come up Custom by default.
    • Click on Accept to save.

I believe when you lose your custom menus after a crash, reloading your saved layout will restore them. At least to the point where you saved the layout. (I include the date with my saved layout names.)

Yes, did not work. All the scripts are corrupted. When I went under edit, all their names turned into a combination of ??? And random numbers... I’m hoping there’s a file that could be saved in another folder.

Solar Wardens - https://www.daz3d.com/solar-wardens-for-genesis-8-male-centaur - is quite flexible set.

    I like it very much.

Now you got me scratching my head I couldn't get it to convert to the female shape. The best I could do was use the X-figure dial to get the female shape and apply V8 textures and hide seems with some sort of hair ?

    Pretty convincing, isn't it.

I have also used the X-figure dial and applied it to Genesis 8 Male and have found some character in my contents, that would do for that look.

Then I have also taken the hair from Genesis 8 Female and put on him.

When C7 came out for the males, I did this image using C7M and X-figure. The materials were G3F, though, because I used the G3 UV Swap product. With all G8s using the Base UV's, the G8 UV Swap is even more useful. If you find you need a squad of centaurs, both male and female, you can use X-Figure to dress them in the same "uniform", and UV Swap with an assortment of your available morphs to give each one a distinctly different look.

Of course, you may have to wait a week or so for the render, if you use Iray, 'cause with a squad of centaurs, you'll more than likely be renderig CPU Only.

    Genesis 8 Cross-Figure Resource Kit

(I've got that resource for G2, G3 and G8. It comes in really handy from time-to-time.)

Thanks, L'Adair for the link. I was away from the computer.

Thanks L'Adair, I never knew what a non-PA would use this for...

  • Well, at least the Centaurs are still being included as the 'Still New Releases'.  I still think the actual Centaur 8 sale should have ran longer than 1 day, with a 1 day followup, but Still New releases is better than nothing.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the number of associated releases for Centaur 8. Even after purchasing the bundle and a few other things as part of the various sales, I'm still counting 24 new items for Centaur 8 that I don't have yet.  So that's somewhere around four dozen Centaur 8 related releases, all within the first week of release!

I am still not done with Solar Wardens - https://www.daz3d.com/solar-wardens-for-genesis-8-male-centaur

This time, I have applied it to Krampus - https://www.daz3d.com/krampus-hd-for-genesis-8-male

I think, it suits him well.

As loud as the don't-need-this crowd was on the Genesis 3 version, I'm a little surprised by the Genesis 8 version, so the last batch of centaurs must have sold pretty well.

I think the telling point is that there were more Centaur 7 products released than there were products for the DAZ horse 2, which was practically DOA after it's initial release.  It's a niche product, no doubt about it, though I'm surprised that there haven't been more alien type creatures released using the Centaurs as a base.

Working with a character base like a centaur is tough in general.......aliens are a "hit or miss big" type of character. So to put all that work into something that may not sell is painfull (being the guy who did make the alien centaur last time....I can tall ya...it flopped badly)

Wow, Alpha Centaur flopped? One of my favourite figures, despite it being very niche and very slow to render on my poor (very) old pc!

  • I like Alpha Centaur. A lot. Don't understand why it flopped.

The more a product depends on others, and the more steps you take from 'young white girl,' the more you gamble.

I don't speak for RawArt, but Alpha Centaur is: based on centaur, male, really weird and unique.

I thought it was amazing and snatched it up, but the market at large is a fickle fickle beast.

'Unique' - yep, and that's one of the reasons I like it so much but I take your point, probably doesn't fit into a lot of peoples' requirements. Hardly encourages talented PAs to produce 'risky' products, which is a real shame.

I remember when it was relased, thought it was a cool figure, BUT I couldn't see a use for it in any of my projects. There are quite a few addons I look at and have to figure out if I can use it more than once. Unfortunately lots of specialized addons that I like are hard to justify buying due to limited use.

  • Hey folks.

I have to say, I've been a bit disapointed with my Centaur 8. I picked it up because I have a lot of G8 characters, and there were a few I wanted to turn into centaurs. I understand there is a way to attach them to the Centaur 7 horse body, but when the Centaur 8 showed up in the store, I was quite relieved. This seemed to save work.

    Now, to what's been disapointing.

This is still using the same horse body as Centaur 7. It's using the same textures. It renders with the same plastic-looking fur. Not to mention the same terrible transition area.

I did pick up IDGs centaur 7 horse and centaur upgrade package a while back. This made the Centaur 7 look a lot better. But, despite it being the same body, I can't apply it to the Centaur 8, due to it stating it's not in the proper hierarchy.

I'm glad I got Centaur 8 on sale. To me, the fur makes it mostly unusuable. When you've got these highly detailed and beautiful G8 models attached to a toy horse, it can be disconcerting.

I'm wondering if there's an easy way to add the Centaur 8 horse body into the hierarchy list for all the centaur 7 upgrades. At least if the fur looks nice I can always find a way to get around the noticeable seam later, or just cover it up.

It would have been nice to get a new Horse model, too. Daz Horse 2 is really showing its age. Hivewire horse hasn't got an upgrade yet, either. I'm having to do a lot of work to get these animals to look as if they belong in the same scene as the characters. I can't be the only one to wish for a new horse model to work with. (Also, it takes more than a change of coat to turn one horse into a different breed.)

Try parenting the body to the correct Geensis 7 figure - don't refit it, just temporarily reparent it and try reapplying the preset. Depending on what the preset is actually doing that may or may not help.

Try Just selecting the "Centuar Body and Geo shell" then try applying the Centaur 7 materials , I've used the Centaur horse body textures from 7 on 8 ,I've also used the textures from Horse 2 on the Centaurs ,sometimes you have to manuelly apply them to the figure and the geoshell ,but it is possible .

And just an FYI  I still use MilHorse1 on occassion, and the old Charger, so Horse2 is in great shape  and I love HiveWire Horse.
