I mean, I was already excited yesterday about centaurs, but today's releases...WOW!! I am just beyond excited. Holding the cart and my purple banner in case there are flash sales later, but I am just loving these items!!
I don't know the answer for sure, but the way I'm reading the text titled "With and Without Maxx" in Helllboy's first post here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/348756/centaur-maxx-for-genesis-8-male-centaur-commercial it sounds like that nice transition is a Maxx-only feature.
Thank you Melanie!
You're welcome! I agree that a pack that would work on ther breeds (and people) would be great.
I don't have Maxx (yet) and I didn't buy into the Centaurs yesterday (I thought all those Genesis 3 ones were quite enough) but today I'm definitely wavering...
Centaur Maxx is amazing. Years ago I read the World Of Tiers series by Phillip Jose Farmer, and in several of the books an uber-powerful being had created a race of centaurs that dressed and lived the lifestyle of Native Americans. What I really remember, though, is that Farmer went to the trouble making something that was anatomically possible, and his big concession had been that the heads had to be MUCH larger proportionately than a humans' in order to get enough air through the lungs to service a horse sized body. This is the first centaur I've seen that comes close to that concept, and the gradual hair transition is just the icing on the cake.
Ashwyn - https://www.daz3d.com/ashwyn-for-genesis-8-male-centaur - rendered in Daz Studio iray.
Dear vendors.
What is this terrible plastic thing on his tail?
I tried to remove it by changing Cutout Opacity, but failed to do so.
It can be optional, but why is it on by default.
Please fix it.
What terrible plastic thing?
Can't seam to open the Taiyo character, just takes me to the Daz main page.
This (encircled in red). Ok, it is not a plastic, but it looks weird to me.
Maybe it is just a pose for the tail, which makes render looks strange to me.
I was wondering that as well. I was never happy with the G3 centuars and i am on the fence with these ones till I can see if it's possible for a lower/smoother transition, that is the deal breaker for me.
can anyone with Maxx post an image with just the default centaur to show the transition without Maxx dialed in?
Thanks!
For the soft blend to work, I had to extend the human torso texture the the horse body under the geometry shell. Unfortunately, this would have to be done to every specific character.
However, if you are willing to work around it, you can alter the settings of the 1Coat material to match your character´s torso as much as possible (kind of like you would with genitals on figures that doesn´t have the maps). The horse texture opacity transition may help cover a bit the seam. :)
Hmm... Seams like much of the pro bundle stuff (especially the female stuff, even the base character) is broken if you install it with connect, and there's quite a few things that end up in lost and found in smart content. Kinda suprised at how many of them are messed up. Like, there's a lot of broken things.... 6 things out of the pro bundle.
*Edit* Oh wow, Maxx is broken too... Connect really isn't the way to go for installs is it? I use it because the little icon gets anoying for me when I use smart content.
Artini, I just messed around with the Centaurs, and I am not seeing what you are showing. Everything renders fine on my end which I must say to EVERYONE involved with the Centaur 8s: Great job!!! I'm loving what I'm seeing. Maxxtaur and ChangelingChick's stuff really adds a lot to the breeds/characters. Maxxtaur is one of my favorite G8 characters, I think. His bulky appearance and the beautiful work on the human/horse transition is really appreciated. Unfortunately, I had to delete all of CC's strand-based hairs from my content library since I'm stuck with 4.10 but it certainly hasn't affected my feeings or use of these horsey products.
I don't use smart content or connect
I use DIM, and it's all broken for DIM. The outfits all break because it doesn't know what to do with the stuff that goes on the Centaur body. The Solar Wardens outfit crashes Daz... it's just a mess, but I work around it.
I also find it weird that the Genesis 3 Centaurs are under "Centaur" in the product library, and the Genesis 8 Centaurs are "Genesis 8 Centaur". Inconsistent naming conventions. SMH.
Thanks for letting me know, that you have not such problems with centaurs, GlenWebb.
It looks like my Daz Studio and its content is screwed up on my computer.
First I have lost all my custom actions and all bookmarks from https://www.daz3d.com/mf-content-bookmarks
Now I have discovered, that I have lost also some characters, like Victoria 8.
I could not even find in the content characters just recently installed via DIM centaur https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-male-centaur
Something is wrong and it is no fun anymore, to fix it.
Need to look through, what updates or content I have installed via DIM or from zips.
Anyhow, it is another render from me of Ashwyn, because that one still exists in my content library.
Well the two days of Centaur 8 sales went away. Those sales were much too short for such awesome characters. I feel for the people that ended up missing those sales, they should have ran longer.
Anyways, I have more Centaur stuff now. Not sure I NEEDED more Centaur stuff to augment all of the Centaur 7 stuff I have, but I do end up using it eventually...
There is a lot of cool stuff in the Centaur 8 line, so I don't regret my purchases!
Wow, Solar Wardens - https://www.daz3d.com/solar-wardens-for-genesis-8-male-centaur - is just brilliant.
Looks like I spend more time with him.
hides and breeds are now in my dim
Actually you did a better job with the render than me, I tend to go for dark BGs, but this is excellent with bright lighting, it brings up the details :)
I wonder if it's possible to use this technology to make a product that will blend any combination of horse hide and human skin...

Thanks a lot, Midnight_stories. You did an excellent job on creating it.
It is hard to explain for me, how much I like this item, but I say very, very, very much.
Because the armor shares the same UVs you can copy and paste materials from horse to G8M armor, under suit has different UVs so keep the in mind.
Yes. But you have to watch your UVs.
I looked into this:
The normal centaur includes a horse bit, human bit, and a geoshell that blends the transition.
The blended transition has a 'torso' surface that has a horse skin and Centaur UV.
The problem is that the human torso is (usually) Base Male UV.
Blendy has only one UV to set... so you EITHER have to convert the centaur torso textures to Base Male UV, or you have to convert the human torso textures to Centaur UV.
This is certainly something a user can do on their own (transfer maps Centaur -> Base Male). Also, if someone were to create their own horse texture maps for centaur, you can set things up this way.
If I ever create centaur textures, I'll probably do it this way and use Blendy.
A self fix (as opposed to submitting a Daz fix-it ticket) is to download the DIM installer and overwrite the files in the DAZ Connect Library.
1. In the Smart Content tab, select the broken product, right click select "Browse to Folder Location"
2. Download the DIM installer. Go to your DIM Download folder and open the installer zip. For Centaur MAXX search for *63333
3. Open the zip file, open the Content folder and drag the three folders (data, People, Runtime) and copy them over to the DAZ Connect folder opened in Step 1, select overwrite files when prompted.
4. Close and Restart Daz Studio. The product should now have working files.
It might be easier to go to the Product Library, filter the products by the name of the product, and manually download the file from there. Then follow Steps 1, 3 and 4.
What's "Blendy"?
It's a Iray shader that Oso3D created
