Thank you very much for the information @memcneil70 @Crescent and @Leana
Yeah, Gabriela has a Spanish look to her. I think Maia looks a bit more latina.
https://www.daz3d.com/dd-maia-for-gabriela-8
I have so many young girl figures, it's the older ones that catch my eye unless it's something from the few artists I am more active in collecting. (I don't NEED a ton of new young girls, really, but I'm always a sucker for a new base model.)
So, stepping outside the young girl paradigm, QX Gale is the standout for me in the Gabriela 8 group.
Interesting skin (age and sun marks), with a "foundation" facial makeup to cover some of that damage - a nice touch. The facial makeup is LIE-based. The lips are interesting because there's a makeup shell for the lips. I'm not positive that I like this shell, but it's a different approach at least. I haven't seen it before. The eyes (especially the sclera) are doing weird things, but maybe that is a 4.11 issue. I don't know. For the curious and/or fans of the mature set, she does come with a gens texture. She also has her own fiber brow.
(The makeup options here are the Foundation & the Blush. I don't think I have any lip choices on this one...)
She has a pretty face that is not the same as a Penny or a younger girl. I guess that's the most important selling point. She looks her age in an attractive way. A well-executed character, I think.
RBF looks good on her. Thank you for giving us a render where we can see what she actually looks like and for letting us see that pretty brown skin that Daz hid in the promos, or is that Altern8 magic? The promo renders (other than Grim-Red's) made me think of the line from "Come Together:" "
I'm really impressed with Gale, and I'm glad to see someone like her in the stoOOOOOHH MY GOD HER EYES!! KILL IT!! KILL IT!!!!!
The default sclera on her are just demonic. It cleared up after a few eye swaps.
I don't know what light conditions are used for some of this stuff, but it's far from the Default, that's for sure.
.................
One more of Gabriela.
I don't think she needs to render as "brown". I suppose the complexion might be "olive", in the Mediterranean style. The American definitions of skin color are a little odd, I think.
That's a lovely render of Gale. Your background is gorgeous. I'm glad you like her.
Eeek, spooky eyes! That may be the eyes needing to be lit differently... but I'm not sure. Gale was made in 4.11 and tested in 4.10, and my tester and I didn't see the sclera render that dark at any point, but I'll definitely take a look at her eyes this week and see if she needs some settings tweaked. If she does, I'll talk to Daz about updating the product. Can't have her lurking in people's runtimes with creepy eyes when she's not meant to be that spooky.
@The Blurst of Times: Do you happen to have that scene saved? If you do, and don't mind sharing it via the message system here, I'd be interested to look at it and see if I can figure out what the eyes are doing under those lights. That could be very helpful in sorting out the settings if there's something off about them. In the meantime, I can tell you that her eyes are based off the excellentNatural Eyes MR by Chevybabe25, and there's a thread that covers various things about the eyes here. Maybe there's something in there that would help explain the dark sclera.
I don't think I saved it... it was a pretty simple setup (and I just added a background from a photograph that I turned into a watercolor to take out human details/make private all the tiny people in the back). I think it was just the defaults, including the default "ruins" HDRI (with the dome turned off, of course).
My main goal was to present her in a cohesive way without a lot of outside complexity. The figures in the Gabriela 8 release are all quite nice, but Gale stood out for me.
Gale really is nice work, from the morph to the skin details. The eyes just didn't work for me, though.
I can work around it. I think a lot of us have a handful of eyes that we really like, anyway.
She's not the only character where the eye details aren't 100% right, especially since every artist uses such varying light conditions.
was curious how Maia would look with different shapes so did a quick compare... first just maia, no gabriela, then victoria 8, then with Monique, Tasha, and a Mika for fun...
Has anyone posted an image with her HD addon? I do not have it so I cannot do that render.
I like the mixes with other characters, especially Monique but don’t like the character as is. I like most of the bundle including the PA characters but I don’t like Gabriela herself... She doesn’t look Latina, just some random woman that could be a lawyer or something. On the fence again... Do I need her now? No. Have to see how the deal is in cart, otherwise can wait till next sale...
Oooh, I really like the Monique Mix!
@Quixotry, loading up Gale, looking at her face up close in the Viewport, I noticed her Sclera had a weird amount of translucence. I guess there's a Refraction Weight there? The Sclera should be solid white, or perhaps tinted towards the yellow for an older person. In any case, I think the Refraction Weight is causing some of the issue in that Surface.
EDIT: Okay, I started reading the Natural Eyes thread. Personally, I don't think Refraction has a place for the Sclera or Iris. These are pretty solid membranes (Sclera) or already highly refracted (Iris). (I mean, you could make the entire human body refractive also, but I'm not sure there's a good payoff for that amount of physics/optics simulation.)
Killing Refraction Weight will cure a lot of issues, especially for those of us who like to undersample and use the Intel Denoiser.
It's something to consider for any changes because people don't necessarily oversample or render to as high a convergence as they used to, especially as more people opt for post-rendering denoising.
EDIT 2: Okay, background image... I "borrowed" the texture from ShanasSoulmate for the shirt, and blew it up... and then I ran it through a filter to smooth out jaggies & make it look like a painting. Then I duplicated it and set the top surface as a Hard Light (with a lower Opacity to kill some of the "light").
Anyway, took out the Refraction Weight, starting to look better. I'll have to parse that thread for more ideas to improve Gale's native eye textures.
Here's my take on Gabriela.
DE Laticia skin, and 100% Gabriela shape + 100% Alt Gabriela Body Weight Morph.
Cloths are: dForce Minimalist Summer Outfit for Genesis 8 Female
The above renders I posted are her "out of the box", so no Altern8. The skin tone greatly depends on the lighting, certain lighting will make her look paler and others will make her look darker - I guess that's the same for most/all figures. :) She is quite a bit darker than Victoria, and a lot more petite as well. Here's an "out of the box" render of Gabriela 8 and Victoria 8:
Victoria's so tall she's trying to use Gabriela as an armrest, but Gabriela is having none of it. lol
i personally really liked Gabriela's smaller, petite, and slightly curvy body. It was fun to work on her.
I love her petite frame. Her skin is great too, imo. She's very pretty! I'm really enjoying rendering her!
Weird. I have bought quite a few pro bundles in the past two months, the last new one being Elios because I didn't care for Ellithia and I don't do teens or anime. And no purple banner for me. I put her in my cart anyway to see what might be doable, and tonight all the prices went up. It's almost like the platinum club went away....now the bundle plus the add-ons and "free" stuff is $120! This afternoon it was $72 because no purple banner. I am really, really confused.
She's a bit on the small side, but also Victoria is super tall. According to her sales page Victoria 8 is: 6'0" (183 cm). That's quite a bit above average. The average hight of, say an American woman, is 5'4". According to Gabriela's sale's page she's: 5' 5" (165.2 cm) - so still a tad taller than average.
Why is Gabriela 8 shown in the bundle with the Flamenco Dancer outfit, but in the bundle is 'only' the Fiesta outfit? That's a little rude of you.
Gabriela is more Spanish than Latin-American, in my opinion. Maybe that's the reason for the flamenco outfit.
Could someone pretty please do a render of Micaela without Gabrielle, with V8 or G8F only? I'm not up for buying the rest of the bundle.
Here you go! I only had a quick minute so I did them with just G8Fonly. Hope this helps! I don't know what the sparkles are on the side shot, must be from the default HDRI, I didn't do any lighting, but they're not there when I moved the camera after rendering and noticing them.
I was on the fence about her, not sure how much I'll use the stuff in her bundle, mostly go for fantasy and sci-fi stuff myself, but couldn't pass up the purple banner coupon and the fact you could use it on gift cards. Ended up paying a very small amount for her bundle and add-on I picked when you offset the amount I got in credit. Now that I have her, I'm glad I do. I like her, can see me using her (even if I don't use the outfits in her bundle much) instead of her becoming just another character I pass up when going for my usuals. I'm at the point where I don't really get pro bundles for the people in them, but the hair and outfits, so if they don't grab me I don't much care. Like Ellios, who I picked up as part of the freebies with the bundle, I liked him well enough, but didn't much care for the outfits, so I passed on him. Well, I have him now which I'm happy for.
Here's my first shot at Gabriela, "Out-of-the-Box" with the swimsuit add-on. Look forward to playing with her some more and trying out the other characters.
One more time with Gale. I just like her, I can't fully say why.
I did a number of changes to the Iris and Sclera surfaces to kill the demon eye.
I used a Diffuse Overlay makeup from Mabel 8. You have to trick it a bit with your own Weight map (desaturate the overlay, turn it brighter as needed, drop it on top of a Black background for the rest of the weight map)... but it works. Just demonstrating the possibilities.
The girls up front are aftermarket parts. I am running experiments to see how they work in the name of science. (FOR SCIENCE!)
I feel like she would wear a scarf, also. So she has a scarf.
Also just messing around with filters in GIMP.
You like her because she’s a great character, a well-realized example of an underrepresented type. The girls look great, so I’d say your science is paying off. Unfortunately, that hair is really dragging down what is otherwise a fantastic render.
@The Blurst of Times
Your images are very lovely and remind me of the actresses that were ingenues in the 40s, but were leading ladies in the 50s and 60s. Mature, lovely, and with guts.
I have enjoyed working with her myself.
Mary
Beautiful render! She's quite lovely here! :)
Thanks... I enjoy more than my fair share of young waif-like figures (rendering one right now, in fact! LOL), but I also like my mature characters as well.
Typically, I need to turn a lot of dials to fit my own ideal of beauty, but Gale just fits my sensibilities very well without a lot of dial spinning. Or really any dial spins at all.
I think Gale just has that "it" quality. I don't see a reason why I shouldn't render her with confidence in how she looks. (Surface issues aside since I'm very much equipped to deal with them on my end.)
Confidence is lovely and sexy, especially when paired with maturity.
I'll try some different hairs, though. I like the color of Lauren Hair (kind of in between a color and gray), but there's always something to do better.
Being from south Florida with a mix of different countries from Latin America.. there is NO latina look... You're going to get latina based on LANGUAGE or COUNTRY not a look. In fact you're going to offend someone going down this road of thought.
Just saying, don't be that person.
