Hmmm, I took a look at that link you posted ...
I actually got a little jealous of Unity lighting
I think mesh lights are not supported in free version of Unity. You need to have professional version of Unity ($1500 or $75/month).
*&^ that. I will the upgrade to Reality 3 for around $15.00 really with my machine I just let the renders run in sequence
Some of the more advanced features requires Unity Pro, but free version has also pretty much to offer.
There are 3 or 4 months ago, I bought reality3, and tried to use LuxRender for Poser scenes ... I wanted something that would give an effect more on my renders ... But I got nothing with LuxRender, what I wanted ...
this week I ended up picking up a bit in the way of postwork hitfilm.
The express version of hitfilm (think it's still free, I'm not sure if still) have good effects, but I hope to buy the ultimate version of hitfilm.
Here's a rendering in poser, then postworked in hitfilm. is still not good as I wanted, but considering I started learning hitfilm this week ...
I'm doing tests with still renders, but I hope to use it for animations.
I know photoshop / gimp etc does it, but when it comes to animations, hitfilm can do it in hundreds of frames at the same time, while in an image editor, I would have to do postwork frame by frame (and take an eternity to complete one by one)
You won't get 3DL quality renders at the same speed using Unity. It uses a lot of tricks to get the speed down, since it's intended for real time games. If you were to try rendering Victoria 6 with her SSS shaders, it would drag its heels in comparison to 3Delight since it's not optimised for the job.
That said, what it can do when you have the proper optimisations is quite impressive.
Mine are all done with Reality / Lux it was a learning curve thought I admit I am sometimes reaaaally tempted to scrap Ds4 Genesis Reality and go back to DS3 with LDP2 and UE lighting doubt I will though..
... aproaching the surface ...
...actually Daz does have mesh lights through the built-in UE2 area lights. I use them a lot. Furthermore Age of Armour created the advanced light system (Ambient, Spot and Distant) that have various falloff modes including squared (following the natural inverse square law) and with which you can flag different surfaces for various rendering effects. The pic I did a few pages back of Leela and Tracey uses a combination of the Advanced Ambient, Advanced Spot (with 360° spherical spread), and UE mesh lights as well as SSS on the characters.
Working with these new light systems, surfaces, and shaders like I have is beginning to make me see just how powerful 3DL is as a rendering engine. The reflectivity in the floor of the Aslan court set alone would have taken about a day to render without the characters in Lux.
... and back away ...
... and even further away ...
...With AoA's Advanced lights, I am able to get LDP2 quality with only 3 - 4 lights instead of 33 or more at a fraction of the render time. The only issue is that someone needs to create a nice skydome pack akin to Azure Skies for these lights. Currently I am using the domes from Skies of Economy and Cloud9 but it would be nice to have more clear to cloudless daytime and nighttime skies.
I have used all of those perhaps I will experiment will see I am so used to how Reality Lux works but I spose I could re learn 3DL. As I have learned putting quality into one's work is self indulgent since sometimes it does not matter case & point my latest D/A Journal entry.
It's a scary! This fav.me/d4bi09j is just a wallpaper off the net and some photoshop writing is more favored and viewed then many of my quality actual renders..
On the plus side it does bring me commission work but its dropped off quite a bit
Hmm, Unity might be worth a look, but not now,
My laptop is getting gradually hotter, I so need my new machine, but, I'm at least a couple of months away from completion. I can't strain anything on this laptop right now, I don't think it'll cope.
CHEERS!
I was always dreaming about making some games myself, so unity was one of the possibilities.
They have the free version, that is sufficient to start learning the basics and even beyond.
Unfortunately some more advanced features are only included in the pro version,
which is beyond my current interest to spend money on it.
Luckily there are some other programs available on the market and I will probably take advantage of that.
Still haven't decided if he's a friend or foe...

Great looking image whatever, could be straight from Hollywood.
CHEERS!
Looks good, though I'd use a little less bump on the skin.
CHEERS!
A bit of an experiment in postworking. I had been meaning to get a few things off my wishlist for a while, and Ron's Waterline was top of that list. I've used the Ultrumarine set for the underwater parts.
It was rendered in 2 parts. The figure was rendered both in sunlight and using the underwater lighting as part of the Ultrumarine set so I could get the right look for the above water and below water areas. The 'ground' is also part of the set, but the rest was done in postwork, including the waves.
Looks great,
Reminds me of the Jaws poster, and I think someone does actually do the shark.
CHEERS!
Here's another one I've been working on. A bit different to my usual style, but I think I rather like it. It's sort of a quick version, but I'm working on a more polished version which will feature Stonemasons ruins in the background.

...hmm, reminds me of my vision of Zagreb in 2054.

Nice!
I'd like to get a few more Stonemason sets myself, I do have a couple but have yet to do anything with them.
CHEERS!
Hi all, fantastic renders here!
wasnt sure if this was the right place to post it but thought id share one of my latest pieces with everyone :)
Its using V4.2 with The Metropolitan Collection - London V4.2 by Danae
Realistic Render for the rendering process with some tweaking to the settings
4 Lights used, two Mesh lights, a curved light and IBL
Mesh lights placed with one above the model, and one slightly to the left of the model
Curved light sitting slightly to the right of the model
Hope you like

Yep,
You came to the right place, and what a great debut render.
Keep 'em coming
CHEERS!
Hello!, long time no see!
Welcome back!
That said, I haven't exactly been here that much myself! I need a new machine before I start rendering again, and I'm currently building one.
Is that Gianni 6 you've used there? If it is then that was quick! Great renders anyway.
CHEERS!
More experiments with rendering in Unity. Recently I have found that there is a Lux for Unity, sort of...

Below is Stephanie 6 visiting the world created in Unity using Lux (from the demo scene).
Interesting, looks a bit like one of Bobvan's renders.
