...thank you, I'll do my best until I lose my flat. Just received an eviction notice today (actually was expecting it so not a really big surprise).

Unemployment here is still really bad.

    Very nice!

Now I've got my new beast up and running I should be able to get some renders going. There are a number of things on my Daz shopping list I want to get beforehand though and can't just yet. I want to get a few other things sorted then I'll be back in business.

All up and working, this is the spec sheet:

    MB: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3

    Processor: AMD FX6300 Hexacore 3.5ghz

Graphics Card: Asus AMD Radeon HD7790 2GB GDDR5

HDD: Western Digitial Green 1TB SATA (Don’t need more as I already have 2TB and 500gb external drives.)

Optical Drive: OEM: LiteOn iHAS124 24X DVD±RW (Dual ±R)/RAM SATA Drive (Internal, Black)

Cool takes longer using Lux but I can let it render on and on and on never runs hot!

...I have the same setup. that way while a render is cooking I can still do other things without interfering with it.

Having two systems also allows me to read tutorials & such while working on related projects.

I guess that's the thing when one renders using lux vs 3DL lux does not bog down one's machine. I use my laptop mainly to play with this stuff at work and run TV shows ans movies through my 65" TV

...my issue is still the long render time involved and the extra work involved with having to get surfaces to look right. 3DL may take up more resources but I am getting excellent results often in less than one hour and at most maybe two. Pat of this is due to AoA's advanced lighting system which accounts for the better render times. Granted, it doesn't use Irradiance like UE does, but then for the most part, I am not going for photo real anyway.

A am currently looking into scripted rendering with 3DL which handles UE much quicker, but alas. as there is little information available on the process, its pretty much all experimentation at this point. It also does not seem to work rendering through effects cameras, at least from what I've seen so far.

In about a month, Renderman will be releasing their full pro system for non commercial use (coinciding with the Siggraph conference). Hopefully someone is or will be taking the initiative to set up an interface so RIB files can be sent to it from Daz Studio.

Glad you're still with us, hope something positive is on the horizon.

I tend to have Adobe Reader on for the tutes and swtich between them and what I'm working on.

I have my 32" TV hooked up for HD videos. There was a problem in that, when I had a DV-I connection with my monitor, the video quality I wanted to have on my TV was on my monitor and the TV showed what I thought the monitor should. The only way I could get them to swap over was using a VGA adapter to hook the montior up to the DV-I socket on the graphics card. Now I can properly watch HD video on my TV.

Scripted 3DL has intrigued me too as does Renderman, maybe a future version of DS will hook up with that. It'd definitely be another string to their bow.

...yeah, still taking a real beating at the hands of RL but not yet down for the count. It keeps landing punches, so I just have to keep going like Rocky in the third film and ask it, "is that all you got?" Hopefully I'll tire it out enough to deliver the knockout in the end.

    Thanks Artini,

A few other projects fell by the wayside while I was getting going, but once I have them wrapped up I'll be back rendering. There are so many Daz products I want to get.
