Commack has two stores, the Crooked Hill (spooky sounding) store which they call the “Smithtown” store and the Jericho Turnpike store... that’s the one nearer to Trader Joe’s and Barnes&Nobles... (not a fan of the Jericho HD store at all... the “Smithtown” store is much, much better)

Heres a screenshot for Crooked Hill... but Jericho turnpike is the same...

Maybe you need to give it a store location for it to give you delivery options...?

I noticed the delivery options disappeared when I didn’t enter a “local store” location...

theyll deliver the 36" door but not the 30

the 30" not worth their effort?

Well, I went to Home Depot a little while ago and talked to one of the guys in Millwork, apparently he was confused that any doors would be unavailable for home delivery, but according to one of the ladies at customer service, it might not be available online because it’s a common “in store” size and therefore they might not bother to make it available online... Megh, it sounded like she just made that one up... it didn’t seem convincing... none of the people I was hoping to see were there... there is this lady at the Pro Desk, who I swear has worked every retail store in the town and she seems to know everything... I was hoping she’d be there or this other guy who is pretty reliable and informed...

Anyway, according millwork-man (I didn’t capitalize because I didn’t want to confuse him with the MCU character) if it’s not in the store you can order it from the store in person... (no holograms or automatons)... there is a fee of between $50-$70 depending on the door, but they will deliver it to your door (is that “storm door to door service”?)... I kinda knew that already, but I was figuring getting to the store was too difficult for you in the first place and the delivery fee is probably a dealbreaker anyway, so it’s all a moot point.

So as I was driving back it occurred to me... “Derrr, you should’ve asked if one can order it over the phone!”...

Well, if that’s something you are interested in (some people don’t like giving CC info over the phone), I suppose you could give them a call and see if you can order it that way...

Sorry that didn’t occur to me... I rarely order stuff over the phone anymore...

Anyway... good luck and sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

I want to play sims but it seems I cannot play sims 4 without a real mouse.  I had to look for a real mouse in order to play.

thank you  was a lovely day in commack today

    even has a dairy queen.

over the phone seems a thing for the truly desperate.  i'm getting to be near the desperation point.  70 bux seems a lot when the 36" is free delivery.
othrtwise would be a 7 mile walk with a door semi balanced on a walker.  i suppose i cooould norroow a shopping cart from stop n shop.

On the topic of Xbox,  I found out recently that Microsoft was able to get their XboxLive app onto Nintendo's Switch platform.  That was... Unexpected to say the very least, and it makes me wonder how they managed to get Nintendo to agree to that. Though it is just the app itself but even still - very curious to see where all this goes in time.

Also the new generation consoles are on the horizon, and I still need to save up for a new computer aaaa. At least the new Halo game is planned to be on the current-gen ones and PC as well as the new platform, so I can probably manage still~

what/when was the age of innocense supposed to be?

  • ChoholeChohole Posts: 33,604

The book  was written in the 1920s  but set post ACW  in around 1870 so that is the when

The what is sonewhat more difficult.   I quote from an article about the book

The Age of Innocence is a title both ironic and poignant: ironic because the “age” or period of the novel, the late nineteenth century, teems with intolerance, collusion, and cynicism; poignant because the only innocence lost is that of Newland Archer, the resolute gentleman whose insight into the machinations of aristocratic life comes late. The novel proceeds from a working assumption that is best summed up by Ralph Waldo Emerson in his essay “Self-Reliance”: “Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members.” Edith Wharton advances this belief with a vengeance, and it gives tragic depth to the life of Newland Archer, a life that might otherwise seem pedestrian and unworthy of close examination.

The film was based on the book but not made until 1993

I do not understand tolerance as it seems one cannot be tolerant towards everything.  I guess this is not a topic for the forums.

The quoted review seems to answer that question.  Intollerance is cruel, so no, it was not a time of less cruelty.  Cynicism is not really uncruel, either.  It indicates a lack of basic trust, a belief that there are alternatie motives to people's actions.  Doesn't sound any less cruel than today's society.

I still have my CD Walkman from back then. I doubt it still works, though.

Non-complaint... I had to go to Port Jefferson this afternoon to pick up something from a store there.

Port Jeff is a nice old New England-ish kind of town... in the 1800s until the early 1900s it was a ship building town so it has a very maritime sort of atmosphere... it’s also very hilly and full of old historic buildings (some supposedly haunted), it looks more like Rhode Island or Massachusetts than most of Long Island does anymore.... Anyway it was nice drive there and for some reason very sunny and pleasant there as opposed to grey and gloomy on the South Shore where I live (Port Jeff is North Shore)... Maybe real estate prices are higher there because it includes nicer weather?
