Spring Complaint:  Ants! angry  Yes, spring has sprung. indecision  The new batch of ants have left their burrows and are actively investigating the the big world around them, which includes my kitchen and other parts of my apartment. sad  However, I have learned that talking sternly to them and feeding them devious snacks to take back to their mother works quietly murdering their whole family and quite well for the rest of the warm seasons.  Time to get another box of Ant-Bait. devil

I don't mind the big ones, the size of deshelled pistacios, that send lone scouts into the house and scare the bezezus out of me when they crawl across my bare foot, because they are quickly dealt with.  But I hate the leetle teeny ones that come in mobs and gather around a bread crumb on the kitchen counter overnight and when I notice the dime sized black spot on the counter and investigate, it dissolves into a hundred specks running in every direction, evading total erasure without instant panic on my part or vast quantities of poison sprayed onto my food areas.frown

Complaint:  The state of education.  While out driving yesterday I happened to catch the local "High School Bowl" on the radio.  It's a quiz show for highschool kids.  Supposedly the smartest students are on the panel.  When I was in highschool, and for a few years afterward, I remember that the kid's answers were quick and correct about 80 to 90% of the time and it was an honor to "make" the Highschool Bowl team.  Yesterday, they were missing questions like "What is the name of the state directly above Nebraska" and the answer from the first team was, after some reflection, "Kentucky".surprise   The answer from the opposing team was "Illinois".crying  Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident.indecision  Current event questions were hopeless*.  History events barely indicated any knowlege of important history.  Literature suffered equally.  However, to their credit they were quick with math questions that made me grind my gears a bit.  But all in all, the score for correct answers for the day was no better than 50%, with ridiculously wrong answers making me groan in dismay.  What scares me is that this area used to be known has having some of the best scools in the state.  After all, I graduated from here! (53 years ago).  If these kids are the examples of the best in the school, then WTF happened?sad

But I bet they could tell you the complete plot to Game of Thrones and the intimate details of the Kardasians. sad

    * To the question: "What is the name of recently convicted Donald Trump lawyer who has been called his "fixer?"  the first answer was "Pence" (*head slap*) and there was no answer from the opposing team .  I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but these kids are going to be voting next year so I decided to cry.

PS:  For foreign readers, "Pence" is the current Vice President of the US known for his deep religious beliefs and squeeky clean life history.  But not apparently to these kids.frown

Non-complaint:  I"ve been browsing YouTube and have run across a few new (to me) "flashmobs" performing famous classical music.  They send shivers up my spine and tears in my eyes to see so many uninvolved people so interested and appreciative of the surprise opportunity.

Carl Orff': "O Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXglXeONApw  Recognizable part begins at 2:10

    Maurice Ravel: "Bolero": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrEk06XXaAw

A Tchaikovsky waltz from the "Nutcracker Suite": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzwWskM4hN8

    A selection from Bizet's "Carmen": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv3xRrqJ9a8

Parts of "Mars" and "Jupiter"(at 2:48) from Gustav Holst's "The Planets": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrcXt-f-M6c

Richard Wagner's: "Ride of the Valkyries": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOjynENuDgw

Bass solo of theme from Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" section from his 9th symphony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsGabFKUhoY  and then followed at 2:52 by flashmob playing Edvard Grieg's "In The Hall of the Mountain King" from the "Peer  Gynt" suite".

I was disappointed to see that the wikipedia article about "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" did not explain the story that the music represents.  Quite simply a boy captured by the trolls and carried to their cave escapes and in the confusion the cavern collapses at the end as the music rises to fever pitch.  There's a lot more to the entire story but the episode in the troll cave is memorable.

  • Time to get outside and plant more flowers!  It's 83 degrees F and partly cloudy right now; perfect for digging in the dirt.

I have a butterfly and bumblebee sanctuary in my front yard.  Was even approved by my HOA, so I know it's kismet.

...ugh 51° and more water from the sky here...again. Guess I should be glad it isn't frozen.

Major, major Complaint: The Cathderal de Notre Dame is burning and appears to be completly desroyed along with all its art. The only savining feature seems to be that some of the bronzes had been removed for the renovation. And this during Easter week. crying crying

Carelessness?  Or terrorism?  Looks like it started in the area where construction was being done.  Another moment in time that we'll remember where we were when... indecision

I wonder about how do I make a playlist on my new MP3 player.  I do not want to play a lullabye when I want to work out and I do not want work out music when I want to sleep.  or something like that.

Fortunately it is far from completely destroyed, though there is major damage.
