Complaint:
What the hell is going on with paper receipts lately?
I just went looking for a receipt to return something to Home Depot... I emptied out a couple of assorted receipts that were in my wallet and took out a few that I had stuffed in a container on my work desk...
Not one of them is less then a foot long and one is almost three feet long... Most are for four or five items or less.
The only one remotely justifying its length is a grocery receipt because there are a lot of items... The one that is almost three feet long is from a pharmacy whose initials may stand for "Cantankerous Vole Society", it is for three items... The rest of that receipt is an "answer a few questions online about your experience for a chance to win something you are never going to win" offer, a huge asterisk adorned area mentioning something I didn't bother to read, two ads for some products I don't use, an ad mentioning their photo printing services, a bunch of coupons and some other stuff I couldn't care less about.
While the grocery store receipt is relatively appropriate, it's accompanied by a million coupons for stuff I don't buy... Stuff that's not even remotely something I buy... I don't have a dog, why are you giving me dog food coupons?... It's that a new foodie thing?
Six shopping trips resulted in a fist full of paper... If you tightly fold it... If you just let it go wild, it fills a shoebox.
Geez.
As far as dog food goes, don't knock it if you haven't tried it..
And wasn't "A Fist Full Of Paper" a Clint Eastwood western?
Do I want to walk to food lion to pick up some peanut butter? Or do I want to watch something in my room.
Conversely my receipt that is icnluded with my on line grocery order, comes printed on an A4 sheet of paper. It is printed in two columns on each side, and yes it is printed on both sides of the paper, not 2 sheets. It separates my grocery shop into Fridge, freezer and cupboard items. It lists the items in each group in use by date order. So the order arrived Tuesday, and the receipt tells me.
Fridge
Use by end of THursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Products with a Use by Date over one week.
And then does the same for Cupboard. Freezer obviously all products are use by over a week.
It then list the rest of my order, products which have no use by date. such as washing up liquid, paper tissues, toilet rolls Tin foil etc etc.
I think it is a very useful receipt. I am not complaining
On the back, after it has come to the end of the actual grocery list, it then lists all the savings I made by using special offers. (not quite so useful, but interesting)
...yeah same here, was on my feet most of yesterday and woke up very stiff this morning.
bad guy in justice league is steppenwolf. they named a character after a 60s band?
...and worse, here in the States, they are made from a paper with a mildly toxic coating for use in thermal printers. They are not recyclable either because of the coating so they go into landfills where the chemicals leech into the ground.
peapod does the itemized breakdown.
cvs is out-of-network provider.
That's efficient... I know a couple of people who shop that way too... I can't bear to let anyone pick my groceries for me. I'm too much of a control freak with my vegetables and fruits.
I know it's not completely relevant, but our primary refrigerator recently died (after only 5 years) and we went looking for a new one... We got a regular non-sentient type fridge, but there was one (around $7,000 USD) with a huge iPad style interface on one door that was supposed to keep track of what you had inside and could be set to automatically reorder stuff online as needed...
Probably not a great idea to let your fridge order your groceries, especially given the craptastic security of the Internet of Things, but the demo mode screen was interesting to watch... Actually not "interesting"... more like "puzzling" because a lot of stuff kinda made me wonder "Why?"... Like why one needs to FaceTime via the fridge door or voice command the fridge to get a little colder. For $7k the damn fridge should at least cook me dinner too.
I think if the machines ever rose up against the humans, it'll be less violent on their part... They'll chose a time when people have gotten so lazy or complacent they just let all their devices order everything for them online... Then the machines will just collapse the world economy by simultaneously over-ordering for everyone. More than one civilization in this galaxy has been enslaved by their appliances, so it's not impossible.
my old job's ibm servers would send a distress signal to the mother ship to ordr itself replacement drives and servicing. still cant believe the ibm giant crumbled, fee figh fo fumm
Mildly toxic... Well that's a relief... I was holding a few folded ones with my teeth while I opened a box of paper clips.
I'm really glad I didn't start nibbling on the one that had the salsa stain, like I'm inclined to do.
Yesterday the fire alarm went off and it was a firedrill. Today the fire alarm is going off but it is not a fire drill but just annoying. There is no fire. It is very annoying. It is just the staff cooking.
Yeah, I've noticed the obscene overlong paper receipts. As the cashier is in the process of winding them around a basketball to get them to a manageable size I mutter something about "Ah good, now I can use them to wallpaper my hallway" or "Ah good, I needed some firestarting tinder. or "Ah good, my gerbils needed more bedding."
Yes... I think so... Was "Fist Full Of Pudding" part of the series or am I just thinking about pudding too much?
Also... Alpo "Beef Stew" smells delicious... Better than Dinty Moore for humans.
Of course the gas your dog will get from that is way less appealing... In fact quite toxic smelling
The fire alarm is now off. I can return to watching Sherlock Holmes but I am afraid we are having an early dinner of yuck.
whatever happened to the terrycloth rompers. trying to replace ones i;ve had over 20 years. is time
smoke detectors?
Sainsbury's does print its receipts on both sides of the strip, Waitrose doesn't.
The thing about that store mentioned previously that gives the uber long receipts, is that they also have an on-line coupon service that e-mails me a couple times a week telling me that they're giving me another discount, just click on the "Add to your Card" button. Well, I do have their little keytag card thing so I press the button and my "super dollars" or 'instant dollar" (or whatever they're calling their gimick now) is now accessible when the cashier scans my keytag as I check out. No muss, no fuss.
So they know I use the keytag, and don't use the paper coupons, so why do they keep printing out coupons for me? Although, I do have to admit that their savings do add up. Often times I'll drop in to their store and pick up something simple. Then when the cashier scans my keytag she'll ask "you have $3 (or whatever) available, do you want to use it?" I usually say "yes" and my bill is sometimes cut in half. Very nice of them, but I really don't want long strings of paper coupons.
Another place where I got a good deal on automatic savings is Wendy's. For two years now at the end of the year they'll offer a keytag card for a couple dollars but for the next year it will grant you a free mini-milkshake whenever you buy one of their burger meals. I love their chocolate milkshake thing (yeah, I know it's probably not ice cream, but it tastes good). I think I have about 8 keytag things on my keyring. Tags from various places. So many that I have to ask the cashier "what color is it" to help me find it more quickly.
We get an early dinner and that is it for food for the day. I ate some of the dinner and threw some of it out. I do not like cooked cabbage. I cannot ask what we are going to eat because then the staff will get upset. I am so frustrated. I cannot heat up my left-overs from lunch or anything.
cabbage kinda stinky
Yeah. This whole situation is kinda stinky.
