I'm seeing an image icon in Music's last post. Is that supposed to be a picture?

Who?...What...?...the Banner in my signature? I didn't make it, maybe Dollygirl did. If so, she gets the credit for it.

    :-)

No, when I got home the "image icon" had turned back into the little square with a dot in it, implying a missing smiley. So why is everybody still trying to use smilies -- sheer optimism?

    And I'll check the links...

    Technical:

All the links appear to work - at the least, they all go to existing download pages, and the spot-checks I made of actual downloads all worked - and I can see all the items in the render (even though I had to hunt for the butterfly).

Links 3 and 8 are to the same page.

I didn't see a link for the broken chair that the Gingerbread Cookie Bowl is underneath. Did I miss it?

And you've got four links to RuntimeDNA newsletter freebies... but I did that myself back in February because those four freebies made up a single scene. I'll let dollygirl rule on this one - she's hosting this month, after all.

    Composition:

Good expression and pose on the person; she looks like she's satisfied with a job well done.

Smart use of an item in a new way! I wouldn't have thought of using foam for loam.

No shadows? I'll grant the chosen lighting doesn't allow for strong shadows, but even diffuse evening light casts some shadows on a face...

    Artistic:

The person's dividing the image in two, with the flowers on one side and the tools on the other. In this image, it works.

However, that's a lot of "empty space" at the top of the image - it shows off the duck, but the duck isn't supposed to be the focal point of the picture. Some "cropping" (or, considering the challenge rules, a widening of the image and repositioning of the camera before the render was made) might have been in order.

Of course Rob you could always have said " check out this utility, also a freebie, which helps with making an image better. "

Oh btw I forgot to add that there is also a Bryce version, also free, in the store

    Composition:

It's one of Dorsey's. What else need be said?

    Artistic:

The choices of colours and shading draws the eye to the woman, which is good. The choices of colours and shading makes it difficult to see the Creech, which is not so good...

Oddly, the dead vines look out-of-place here - at least, they do to me. Everything else is alien (save for the woman, but there's a tradition of placing humans in alien settings so this human is almost expected); the vines don't match thematically.

Okay Rob, thank you for being jolly on the spot. No I really do appreciate what you are doing. So to answer some questions.
First question. Did I miss it? Yep you did hidden in the Rusty junk pack is the chair.
Second question. Having 4 RuntimeDNA newsletter freebies is it ok. Yes it is. She has 33 listed. Even if you take the 4 make it one she still has 31.

As for the assessment mmalbert, if you want to "modify" your image you can do so 2 times. You do not have to. There is no pressure for you to do so. But if you do decide then just tell us that you have done so. This means you must still stay with your initial concept and used freebies. Based upon the feedback you are allowed to modify those aspects identified by the judges.

There used to be a rule to allow updates to your entry but Music did not include it in the official rules so I am going to allow updating but you only get two shots at it. I am a believer that is someone gives me advice then to show respect I should at least consider it and if I find that I have improved the image because of said advice then it should be allowed to be entered.

This render has some nice zen going on. Thanks mmalbert for entering and I will be sending you a PM shortly.

Now that is an understatement. But I do think she needs that diamond necklace. Cause no girl, human or alien, could resist crystalized carbon.

You are SO unconventional, Dorsey! I like your unconventionality; and I'm so going to download those weird little pancake stack thingies.

I didn't see a link for the broken chair that the Gingerbread Cookie Bowl is underneath. Did I miss it?

It's with the Rusty Junk 2 set, on the left.

(even though I had to hunt for the butterfly).

Sorry about that. I meant to add a note where to find it, but I forgot. That butterfly loads at a Mothra-like size; it had to be scaled down a lot!

Links 3 and 8 are to the same page.

Am I supposed to list just the one link for being counted and then move the other link under not counted? Or do you just make a note it's on the same page as the other link? Lots of questions...just trying to get a feel for the proper linkage protocol.

I went back and forth on the duck. I felt like I should have some sort of non-human creatures in my little bucolic scene, but it is rather large. I might re-render and re-enter this image without the duck. Or with a much smaller duck. Must think on this.

Camera angles are limited due to how I've frankensteined the plane, grass props, and two terrain props. I did tilt the camera upwards a bit to help make it look more natural and unified.

As for the shadows...I like the light, but I can see what happens if I turn shadows on for either of the other two distant lights in the scene. I'm a little reluctant to use deep shadow maps in a render with a lot of transparency involved because I often get those annoying little multi-colored squares.

The open cloud space was a choice on my part. I like pretty, wide-open skies as backdrops. But maybe that duck's gotta go...

I'm rendering in DS3, so Jaderail's script isn't something I can use. It looks interesting though!

Oh. I see Dollygirl's already answered some of my questions.

    Well, I have more! :)

I was thinking my gardener should look a little dirtier. There were no freebie textures I could use for this and postwork isn't allowed.

If I were to use some freebie grunge brushes on a white background to make dirty nails, hands, and knees -- with the V4 limbs UV map template as a guide -- and then render that as an overlay on V4's texture, would that be allowed?

It's kind of more "prework" than "postwork," but I thought I'd ask.

I know he was trying to do a DS3 version.

I must admit I was pleased when I laid the Fibonacci Spiral over one of my renders and found it was pretty much in line with it. However I had the same problem as you have with the duck. My ducks were OK, but I have giant rabbits. Keep meaning to go back and shrink them a bit and rerender it.

I guess it depends on how we read Rule 16...

    16. You may use as many freebies from “community” sites. These are sites that feature free items from various arthors, like Sharecg.com or Renderosity.com. You may NOT repeat a link to a third party site “exactly” once used in the entry, You can, however, use the same thirs party site link as long as it goes to a different page. Most-digital-creations.com is an example of this.

It's that "You may NOT repeat a link to a third party site “exactly” once used in the entry" part that's the stickler.

When I used two freebies from the same page last month, I listed them together and just gave the link once, and BWSman allowed it that way.

I see no reason to forbid that - it's just a second-skin texture map, after all.

It would be a no-count, unless you make the texture available to everyone else as well.

mmalbert, I think your render is beautiful and very pleasent.

Dorsey, I think your render is beautiful and very scary.

Both have lots of freebie links...that's good.

mmalbert...what we have done before is, you can post two versions of your render. One with postwork and such, to get the message across to all just exactly what you were trying to accomplish, and one that is rule ready for submission. This way all are happy.

Dorsey, I just love your creature sneaking up into the garden....hehehe. Oh, and all my smiley icons are just squares with tiny "x" in the middle. Never did work right when the site changed over. But, they did fix the avatar and signature problems, so maybe in time...

    Nice collection of freebies!
Some strong back / side lighting to emulate the Sun position might be helpful to give some nice shadows.

I tend to be, you know, different.

    HOW DOES YOUR GALAXY GROW?

I'm guessing this is the first time most of you have seen what summer looks like on Jupiter's moon Callisto. The gardens can be quite, ah, jovial.

(Not quite what you were expecting, Dollygirl? Am I in the wrong contest again? That's okay -- I'm growing another garden on Earth.)

LOL! Now that's looking at this theme from a different perspective!
    Cool Jupiter in the sky.

No more late night trips down t'da delli fer me, no sir-ree! Geeze, I hopes it rains soon, udderwise I'm gonna haf' ta start luggin' buckets o' watta down six flights o'stairs jus' t' keep dese t'ings from dyin' on da vine! Man, I dunno how you farmer types dose it!

What can I say... just awesome! : D
