...yes. There was a deal recently to get an annual membership for half price with buying one other item but I believe it was only on for one week.
I'm f-----g frozen! Burrrrrrr here in Southern Cal. Tonight lows will be 34 but will feel like 28 due to NNw winds. Thurs hits 31 (below freezing) and Friday hits 28. Our six pack of dogs were rallying with signs, "too cold-no go" so I bought potty pads for the them and closed their doggy door. Then the cats started picketing with signs, "Feral Cats Have Rights Too" so I got the garage side door/dog door open and set up a portable heater in the garage for the six semi-feral cats that adopted our back yard, since 2009.Then the birds gave me crap, all chirped, "No tweets we're cold and weak" so I installed 6 heaters 1500 Watts each in the plexiglassed covered aviary (lost a few finches which is what probably instigated the crap tweet). Today I taped (yes taped) all gaps in the adjoining plexiglass and strung cords to various outlets and to protect them from rain put the cords over piles of bricks pots etc with bigger pots covering them because it's supposed to WHAT rain. Yes our back yard looks like a hazzard zone. With my luck some present theif will climb over the fence and sue me for entrapment! Speaking of 'visitors', I pity any snow birds coming to CA for a holiday reprieve but not as much as I pity the homeless. How in God's name do they survive? When I tried to give one homeless woman a blanket and a tarp she ran away in fear. So sad. What is sadder is that one day she will be desperate enough to risk accepting something from a stranger and hopefully that stranger will be a kind soul. Sometimes we can make a difference, hand out old blankets, a can opener and some food (desperate people are truly grateful and accept offerings) to help those less fortunate. Anyhow back to my animals . . . The winds and temps are insane. Keep your pets safe. They matter too. Happy Pawlidays.
...just north of you here in usually mild rainy western Oregon it's now 35° (in the city centre), we have a freezing fog warning in effect and temps will be below freezing this weekend. Went off to the market for a few things a while ago and even with extra layers on as well as a heavy coat I was freezing.
...and I originally come from Wisconsin where the kind of weather we are having is warmer than normal there at this time.
I also remember the winter of '76 - '77 when snow fell as far south as Miami (Tampa was "buried" under 2") and in my hometown of Milwaukee it didn't get above 0F (for high temperatures) for almost two weeks.
I'm in Wisconsin, where we're about to enter the first straight week of below freezing.
...yeah going to be -17° (F) in Stevens Point (where I first went to college) on the morning of Boxing Day.
Minus degrees are like black holes, they both look good from a distance :0
My computer has a fingerprint thing. Trying to get that to work. I thought I found the driver on Lenovo but it was the read me. The driver installer was bellow it.
Dogs & cats survive OK in 30F degree weather unless they've been pampered their whole lives or have been bred to be furless or are incredibly dumb and don't seek shelter of some sort. I don't start to feel sorry for them until it gets below 0F. For a couple of years I provided a nice cozy, padded and even electrically warmed cat shelter on my porch for the neighborhood cat and he only used it once. Preferring to curl up under the porch despite snow still reaching him. Eventually the neighbors adopted him when they moved away. I tried to adopt him but discovered very quickly that I was alergic to him, so out he went again.
southerly degrees blows from the South Pole?

the occasional run over by a reindeer accident.
Getting run over by a reindeer in the US is not very likely. There are only 11

We are not part of the commonwealth.
Semi-resolved complaint: Yesterday I complained about winning 5 lots of gems (6 gems total) in an on-line auction for $11 but then receiving an invoice for $11+tax+shipping where the "shipping" was $500.
I wrote a polite dispute letter to the web auction host company suggesting that "surely it was an error?". I got a reply back essentially saying that the auction house in question charges shipping per winning lot but also offers combined shipping and could send all stones in one package. So they sent me a new invoice for $113.17 implying the shipping is now only $100. (*sigh*)
Rather than giving them a suggestion of where they could stick their gems, I decided I really wanted them and if I divided $113 by 6 the cost comes out to about $20 per stone which still isn't too bad. But really folks, am I wrong in thinking that if the auction house is fool enough to host a "no reserve" auction and a lot is won for only $1 then that's their problem not mine? Don't hide your reserve costs in the shipping fee.
And then to initially quote me $100 shipping PER LOT is typically sleazy.
I think they believe what P.T. Barnum reportedly said about suckers. ("one born every minute"). Regardless. I went ahead and paid the $13.17 for the stones + tax and the $100 for "shipping" just to get my examples of some interesting semi-precious stones (not to mention the pair of rubys that, though flawed, are still clearer and bigger than the one poor, teeny-weeny, cloudy example I already have.
And silly me, I thought I was going to make headway in getting my budget under control this month. Bah, humbug!
PS: Oh, and just so you know, I read the auction agreement fine print and determined that if I don't pay for the items I win or have them shipped or picked up within 14 days, they put the items in storage and add the storage fees to my cost. And there were even more expensive actions that followed that! So, I figured it was probably best to cut my losses and just get my stones before I get myself into a real mess. I think I'm done with gem auctions. I'll deal with legitimate wholesale houses or Amazon from now on.
..sunny but c-c-c-c-old here 13:10 and only 36°, about the same as it is in Milwaukee right now. Currently 27° in Stevens Point and it's snowing there.
Looking more and more like any water from the sky here for the next week could be in some frozen form when it happens.
Morning. 0 Fridays to go before Christmas yay This year is ending as mad as it started, can’t wait for it to be over :)
...yeah I have reservations when the shipping fees are more than the item's price. Found a replacement for my favourite hot cocoa mug that was broken (which had a piano keyboard motif on it) for 3.95$ ("buy it now" price), on ebay. Nearly clicked the buy button but then saw that the shipping cost was 15$, almost four times the cost of the item. Needless to say, I'm still searching second hand stores for one instead.
I searched blender on the web to get some blender mix ideas. I found a website blender.org and that I bet will be a perfect place to get blender ideas, right?
YIKES!!!! I grew up in Newfoundland and remember walking next to the tops of telephone poles to get to school. It wasn't unusual to see people on their roofs shovelling out the porch area of their houses. The winds are 18 mph right now but in the 70's winds hit 78 mph in Nfld. In Canada I also lived in Toronto for a few years, no snow ever, than moved 60 miles North to Barrie Ontario and felt as if I'd moved to the North Pole. Anyhow my aviary setup worked. The birds survived 31 now let's see if they can get past the 29 zone at 4-6 am.
Edit : Oh and my son is living in Tualatin Oregan. What are you cooking for dinner. lol
Nope, you're not wrong. It's skeevy. That is not an actual shipping cost.
......a big batch of my special Italian sausage and mushroom pasta sauce which will get me through several days (I expect to see some kind of frozen precipitation this weekend so just going to hibernate until after the holiday). There's wine to have with my dinners, whiskey and sherry for afterwards, Hot oats and sausages for brekkie, soups for lunch, I'm good through Boxing Day.
the 'afterwards' sounds warms
Weather here is going to be nice for Friday and half of Saturday. Temps in the low 40's (F). Snow continuing to melt. I can see rocks at the bottom of the ruts in the driveway again. Yea!
I've decided to make another trip uptown tomorrow. I've been doing a bunch of cooking and have accumulated enough garbage and trash to take to the transfer station again before it begins to smell. Also will treat myself to a pre-Christmas decent lunch at Red Lobster or Ruby Tuesday or Applebee's or Olive Garden. Yeah, yeah, I know they're all just franchise fern bars but it's the best we have in this area.
At least it's a step up from Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Arby's, KFC, Bob Evans or Tim Horton's. I think it will be Red Lobster. It's been a while since I had a good piece of fish. Mmmm! Omega-3 fatty acids! Mmmm.
Then on Saturday afternoon the rains come and it gets cold again and there's snow predicted Sunday and all next week.
Can you say "snowbound" again?
Actually, one of my favorite places to get a cheap lunch is at a local "Texas Hot" joint called "Johnny's Texas Hots". It's been here since before I was born. My father used to take me there for lunch when it was in an old brick building down in the industrial area in the center, ("on the wrong side of the tracks") of Jamestown back in the early '50s. It's still in their family but that old industrial area has been torn down and is now a medical campus, a couple of big chain drug stores a shopping center, and all the old dilapitated brick buildings are gone. "Johnny's Texas Hots" has moved to the west end of town and changed their name to "Johnny's Lunch" but the recipe for their sauce loaded with hot stuff and onions is the same, and the same soggy buns, Mmmm, yum! (see image below) And a big ol' chocolate milkshake made the old fashioned way with real ice cream. Just don't tell my doctor.
'plainttt - xbox d/l a 500mb update for witcher3, an involuntary update. xbox d/l soo slow, no way can play tnite
Forget about my son. Put mine in the oven. How long is the drive from California to Oregan????? I have to show this to my husband to prove that 'Boxing Day' is not "something only you guys (Canadians) have because to us (Americans) it's just a big return day."
Last week we went to Mimi's Cafe, a french restaurant and because they did not have anUltimate Long Island , I ordered wine. Before she left, I notice a wine by the glass called 'The Seeker and asked her about it. Her face lit up while she informed me it was her favorite. She did not look like a wine drinker but than again neither do I, so I decided to trust her and order it. Due to my abusive childhood I typically trust very few people I have known for years, but decided to trust this waitress because resembled Adam Levine ... well not her head her arms reminded me of Adam Levine. OMG. I went everywhere looking for this wine. Went back to Mimi's ordered a meal and the wine but this time I asked to see the bottle first and asked where do you guys get this stuff, my neighbor would love this ( I don't know my neighbors). Apparently you have to be a restaurant to get it. :( .... So my husband found it online for 10.00 a bottle, which cheap me thought, maybe I'll buy Barefoot . . . but this wine was so-o-o-o good and I just found out my hubby ordered a case that is coming tonight. So I am apologizing in advance for anything I may regurgiate on any forums after I drink half a bottle what the heck, I'll drink an entire bottle because it's the eve of the eve of the eve, of Christmas Eve! Huge giant grin.
santa reaches yoo first
Last day of working for a while this morning and done by lunchtime so feeling like Christmas came early - is eerie quiet in the big city right now tho, a lil spooky :)
