Gone was kind enough to do some presets for some of my furry critters recently which I've started playing with.

You can export the OBj file exactly the same way like fiber in Zbrush , in this case all you can do is export the OBJ and use as hair guides
and the exported structure will be exactly the same as exported from Zbrush

That sounds promising, but I don't know if it means it'll work or not. I don't use zbrush and don't really know how exporting fibers from zbrush works or whether or not that would work in LightWave either. I think I might be willing to give this a try though. It's really great software. even if I can only use for Daz.

I'm sure I'll have no problem exporting the obj file. I just don't know if I could do anything useful with it in LightWave. Sure I could render it as just an obj mesh, but I need to be able to make the obj export into hair guides so that they can be rendered with FiberFX and dynamics. That's the part I have no clue whether it can be done or not. Would you be willing to export a sample obj file so I could try and see if it coulde be used as hair guides in LightWave?

It would be nice to see some presets for Garibaldi critters. As the site only has the same three hair samples it had from the off.

Uhm ... you did go to the Garibaldi forum? There's a link to the page that will go live when the updates are coming through to Daz ...

On the Garibaldi site it says that the plugin is $33.75 as part of the March Madness sale, but when you click the link and go to the Daz3D store, it says $44.95. Is this going to be fixed? Or is there a coupon code we need to enter to get the discount?

I believe that is from last year as I've seen it ever since then. James hasn't updated his site in a while.

Uhm, well. I looked at the main site and it's freebies section, where it say's more to come, that's what I was referring to. Thanks for pointing me to the forum though as I didn't realize there was a new update, as my last update was Oct 13.
Liked the fact that the forum had some new presets, but the big critter - lion (the only critter there) gave me a 404 error.

    Thanks for the presets, appreciated.

Now that Joe has posted a render of his upcoming Genesis mole and one of the textures for the Genesis mouse in the store, I thought I would show a couple of different takes on the hair. :)

First up is the naked mole rat morph - wearing the short white belly hair preset for the mouse. This rat hasn't been exercising much so has pot belly, heavy, torso volume and Ramwolff's inflate arms dialed in. The pose is straight out of one of the pose packs and the expression is dialed from shock and surprise.

Next is a blend of Aiko 5 and Genx'd she freak 4. The base texture is the grey mouse texture and she is wearing 2 hair presets. The short white belly from previous AND the long grey preset.

Genesis is so much fun. :)

I'm curious how the hair looks when animating. So, if you have a character like the woman with the pony tail as seen in the example images, what happens if you have her dancing or fighting?

Does the pony tail stay rigidly fixed in place?

Does the pony tail fall through the character's geometry?

I'm almost ready to buy this, but I really wondered about these questions. Does anyone have any rendered animations to show off Garibaldi?

At the moment, the hair doesn't animate.

In another thread, Futurebiscuit mentioned that he was working on a soft body physics plugin. This would bring animation ability to the hair.

Softbody dynamics would be great. But what about the hair intersecting character geometry? Does it just go right through it or does it at least honor collisions?

It's on March Madness Today, March 6.

I think it was also on yesterday, because they did this sneaky "all MM items Wednesday" thing. If you miss it today, check next Wednesday.

(edited) At 40% off, it's $26.97. Yesterday's "Sultry Hair for Genesis and Gen 2" for $1.19 at 40% off is on today's "still punchworthy" list. Add that and Garibaldi, and they both go to 50% off, and total drops to $23.47.

The hair already has rudimentary collision detection. It's possible to push hair through the mesh when styling but it fights you on it. :)

    You're welcome.

There's also a $10 off any purchase over $50 right now.

I already have Garibaldi, but I had the public shower bundle, shredded dress, and geek (because Out Of Touch's one of the artists in MM, so his whole store is MM priced today) in my cart already.

There were a couple of items from another MM artist on my wishlist. Next thing I know, Dazmagnetism sucked those items into my cart to meet the $50 threshold, and pulled my mouse to the checkout button.

Terrible thing, that Dazmagnetism. Just terrible.

Did I miss the release of Garabaldi Express (and Basic) 1.1 somewhere? There's information about it on the Wiki but my download from the store here is still 1.0, and I can't find Basic.

    Garibaldi Beta Forum

1.1 was planned for release in the store for beginning of January but, unfortunately, that didn't happen. The update is available at the address above. If you haven't been there before, you will need to register.

    Rendering Issue -

I scanned the beta thread and this one and if I missed this issue please direct me to where I can find an answer.

I am getting issues when rendering where only the Garibaldi hair will render along with the Genesis eyelashes, but nothing else. Genesis is 100% white. It does not crash it will run the render and the hair will look good.

This first started when I was tweaking one of the sample downloads from the Garibaldi site but this now occurs when I load a new figure and create all the hair from scratch on a new node.

Sometime only the eyelashes will render and all else is missing. Eyelashes and flip flops...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your character use subsurface shader?
Saving the scene (under a new name) and restarting Dazstudio should fix that ...

Agreed, this sounds like a shader issue and nothing to do with Garibaldi.

The dialog box that comes up when you hit render should have a message indicating an error has occurred in the brickyard.

One question - when you say missing, do you mean nothing is rendered or that it renders white? If white, then it is almost certainly a shader issue and can be fixed as Kerya mentioned. If nothing renders, then that is a different problem that needs more info to diagnose.

I see the issue with characters rendering white from time to time. I just save the scene, exit DAZ Studio, use the task manager to make sure the DAZ process has exited, start DAZ Studio again, load the scene and render again. That seems to fix the problem for me.

This is caused by the one of the compiled shaders in the temporary directory being corrupt. If you open two DAZ Studio windows this can happen, but it also seems to happen with some sequence of events with only a single window open.

Thank you for the replies. I think the Garibaldi connection was a red herring and only coincidental as I was working on a scene with it.

I opened a back-up file of the one that was only rendering the hair and flip flops and it still only renders the eyelashes and flip flops. No Garibaldi items ever created in the scene.

I think it is rendering white since the flip flop portion covered by the foot has a white heel clearly outlined. The image shows up fine in the working window. Also, it will render at the lower open GL settings so this may be restricted to 3D delight.

Another scene I have with Garibaldi hair and a different figure is rendering fine at the highest setting.

I will clear computer cache and see what that does; also would it make sense to consider a reinstall of Daz 4.6 64 bit in this case?

  • edited December 1969

Would it make sense to delete the items in temp folder? Where would I look for that? Could I delete just shaders?
