That first warning is not normal nor is the total render time...
All the tdlmakes look fine and like they completed normally. The displacement error isn't a problem and wouldn't cause this, even if it was a problem.
Could you post a screen shot of your render settings...it's almost as if it's wanting to do a scripted/multipass render and isn't generating the proper file to do so.
Sorry I have not been able to get back to this.
I reinstalled Daz 4.6. It is now working on several files, but it now renders this file like a gold or copper figure.
It is very strange.

If you want to save just the hair for reuse, your best bet is to save as a wearable preset.
If you have a hair style that uses more than one node, you should first select all the nodes and place them in a group. Whether you have a single node or group, you need to parent the hair to the figure ( dropping the hair on the root of the figure is fine). Then select the figure and use Save As -> Wearable(s) Preset. In the dialogue box, make sure only the hair is checked and save to whatever name you like.
You can now reuse the hair on any compatible figure.

A few years back I kitbashed some hair props to make a scene with a handful of Kenders getting into mischief at an inn. I even had a half decent Raistlin and Sturm that I never used in any scene. :lol:
save me hiking through this thread can someone please help with installing the beta...do I need to uninstall the previous or will the beta overwrite it.
Garibaldi only installs 2 files - the plugin .dll and the shader .sdl. They overwrite the existing files - as long as they are installed to the correct location.
Make sure you get the correct version because Basic has the same names and will overwrite Express so you will lose the create option if you install it. No biggie, though, since you can just install Express on top of that.
For those as may care, the shader .sdl is the same for both Basic and Express. You can switch back and forth between Basic and Express simply by overwriting the .dll with the appropriate version - provided you have a serial # for Express.
Of course, if you aren't interested in seeing what Basic looks like, don't bother. :)

Anyway, this nostalgia has me working on a new Genesis kender - with Garibaldi hair of course. :)

The Garibaldi forum page is beta - but the update files are not.
At the beginning of January, Futurebiscuit submitted 1.1 build 19.6 to DAZ for the store. This included the Basic free player. DAZ asked for some changes (possibly DIM related) which resulted in build 19.6c - the download you get from the forum site.
Some other changes were, apparently, required but his RL job precluded him from getting the changes out.
Interestingly, I stumbled across a DAZ store page the other day for Garibaldi Basic. It was 404, of course, but it WAS a DAZ store page. So it would seem that they got as far as prepping the store page before the wheels fell off.
Does anyone know why after saving and reopening a scene with Garibaldi hair the hair is all over the place. I have just lost 3 whole days of work. Every File is the same barring one and nothing has changed in each just incremental saves. I just got to the point of it being perfect and this happens.
I installed the beta before starting work so a change of version isn't the answer. The only thing I can think of is I set Opacity of a surface that does NOT have hair to 0%, surely that shouldn't happen....man I pissed and I don't get pissed often.
Question - does the hair render correctly?
Early on, there were a couple of reports where the guide hairs looked like someone had put their finger in a light socket but the hair rendered correctly anyway. This turned out to be an issue with OGL drivers I believe.
The only other time I've seen something like this is when G2F hair is applied to G2M - or vice versa. But that wouldn't apply in this case.
Setting any surface opacity to zero will not affect the hair. It's entirely possible to put hair on an object then make the object invisible and render only the hair.

No the hair doesn't render as it was set up. Yep like it has been electrocuted with the guide all over the place stretching out in all direction and the hair renders messed up.
I have replicated everything so far from scratch and it seems to be behaving itself. I just can't figure it out for the life of me. Lucky for me one of the scene's opens fine and the tweeks to get it to the final stage were easy. I just wish Scale and Extrude settings stayed put instead of resetting every time DS closes. That is a royal PITA.
I think it is down to AOA's Subsuface shader as soon as I apply to non hair surfaces and save and reopen the hair gets messed up...now that I wouldn't have thought of in a million years.
By any chance, are you toggling "show all surfaces" when styling? There is a known issue there that may translate to DS if you are not careful - but I haven't seen it go electrocution bad. In any case, as long as you are aware of it, it is easy to avoid.
Basically, what happens is, if you toggle all surfaces and then use the comb right away, the hair flies out directly opposite to the direction of the comb. You can avoid the problem by selecting another tool first (even if you don't use it), adjust the scene angle/zoom, or do just about anything before applying the comb. If it does happen, just hit undo (or ctrl-z) and then go again. The problem only happens the first time you apply the comb directly after toggling if no other action was taken.
I'm pretty sure AoA shaders are not the problem. I have several "skins" that are pure AoA shader with no maps in any channel and hair works just fine with them. I've also applied the shader to textured "skins" without issue.
Well I went back and tested AoA subsurface again and every time I apply and save the hair gets messed up. So I am not sure now with you saying that as I did have show all surfaces toggled but not straight away. I will take a look and see if it is still toggled. Weird stuff.
Are you applying the subsurf before or after creating the hair?

When you apply the shader shouldn't have any effect. I routinely switch from DAZ default to Uber, to AoA shaders without issue while hair is on the figure.
Toggling all surfaces is something you would normally do as part of the styling. If you want to quickly move hair through space that would normally be occupied by the body you toggle off and move the hair. When you want to sculpt the hair to drape properly around the body you toggle surfaces on.
It's these transition periods that you need to pay attention to the comb bug.
Are you building the hair on a default "T" posed figure, saving it as a wearable and then loading it to your figure for final styling? This is how I do it and I find it saves a lot of aggravation during the build process.
I know it shouldn't...but what about if you apply a shader/material preset that changes the UVs that are being used?
I'm trying to think of things that normally wouldn't be looked at, because what's happening shouldn't...
Pete, can you post a before/after screenshot?
The worst that can happen with changing the UV set is that the hair may not line up correctly to the texture. Unless you have a precision hair placement, this usually won't even be noticed - and if the hair is aligned precisely to the texture, it won't look right on any other texture anyway. In any case, the hair will load and render properly - it won't have this sort of behaviour.
The vert order is another matter entirely.
A hair built on G1 will load and render correctly on any G1 figure regardless of the UV set used for the build or current figure. However, it will not even load on a G2 or Gen 4 figure because the vert counts don't match.
A hair built for G2F will load on G2M because the vert count is the same - but it will be messed up because the vert order is not the same.
Since the problem is occurring simply by saving and loading a scene, this is obviously not the problem. Clearly, there seems to be some kind of communication problem between Garibaldi and DS on his machine. What that could be, is the $64,000 question.
Similar problems in the past have been linked to outdated video drivers or a video card that is too old to support the features necessary. On the Garibaldi web site, there is a list of minimum spec cards.
This is probably a long shot - but does the video card measure up and are the drivers up to date?
OK Gone showing all surfaces maybe the issue for the body as it was checked in Image 1 but not for the Wings in image 1. But as you can see the hair is how it should be. Oh and image 1 scene I can open and close all day long WITHOUT the hair messing up even with the "show all surfaces" checked.
Image 2 is after applying AOA SSS to the beak, legs and claws, now the hair is messed up. It doesn't happen with Uber Surfaces which is what I am going to use now.
Now the big question is did I use comb straight after checking it, I just don't know.
NVidia GT 610 last checked for update 26/3/14 which is automatic.
Unfortunately, I don't have the songbirds so I can't try to replicate the problem.
If it only does this when you apply AoA and not with Uber, then that is definitely a head scratcher. I can't imagine what the shader would be doing that would cause this. I use the AoA shaders on many figures and I've never seen this happen.
Hey thanks a bunch for try to help Gone and mjc but yeah a head scratcher. But before I do anything else after finishing this image I am going to try from scratch but leaving "Show All Surfaces" off just to eliminate it totally. I will try before and after applying AOA.
