    G8 Gwennili

I think she came out great. Loving her skin with the new lobe shaders. I need to do a few more posing adjustments on the image, but pretty happy with it. There was a tiny but of noise in the shadows, but not much. No speckles like the first one. I used a Dimension Theory Iradiance night sky and a different light set. The set is "Thieves Alley" which says it's optimized for Iray but parts of it looked a bit low rez. That surprised me, as I don't think it's very old. It looked much better once I changed to the night lighting and used a little DOF.

The outfit is two different ones- Hunter Queen for G3F and Midnight Huntress for G2F. The boots on Hunter Queen didn't work well and the bodice on Midnight Huntress didn't look right in this pose. So I combined them and matched textures as best I could. The bow and arrow are from Midnight Huntress and would not follow the pose, despite careful positioning and parenting. The pose is adapted from Ensary's ArtemisV7 set. Midnight Huntress comes with some great poses, too (most of Iggy's stuff does) but I hadn't converted them, so I went with the V7 ones.

    Hi @Llynara,

I love what you're doing with applying Genesis 3 Skins to Genesis 8! Every image you've posted in this thread looks fantastic! So much so I decided to buy Victoria 8.

I have a quick question. How are you applying the Genesis 3 eye materials? I've tried what @AprilYSH suggested (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2524026/#Comment_2524026), however I'm not having any luck with the appearance of the eyes using non Genesis 8 materials. Could you share your process?

    Trish

Thanks, Trish! Glad you are finding these helpful. I'm having too much fun with them!

Most of the eye materials are loading okay, such as Gwennilis. Usually I just got to Content Library and load the materials from the Genesis 3 Female->Characters folders without any issue. But a few are really funky, like Anneka's glowing eyes:

(For some reason, Gwennili's weren't a problem. Go figure.)

I don't know exactly what they changed with the eyes, or why some work perfectly out of the box and some don't.

G3 to G8 Eye Material Workaround

So far this has been succesful so far on the ones I've had trouble with:

    1. Load a G8F or V8 eye preset- doesn't matter which one. Just double click on one of them. You just want to overwrite whatever the issue is in the G3F material.
    2. Then go into the Surfaces tab and find the "Iris" section.
    3.
    4. Replace the "base" map with the desired G3F eye material. Just click on the picture of the base map and choose "browse" from the menu that pops up.
    5. You can find these under "\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Textures,"  often under the name of the PA, or if they're a DAZ original, under the DAZ/Characters folder.
    6.

Thank you! You're awesome! That seemed to do the trick for Princess Ali II.

    Trish

Looking at the lists of what's included in the basic V8, the starter bundle, and the pro bundle, I'm trying to figure out why the heck the basic V8 includes anatomical material presets when you don't seem to be able to get the actual anatomical elements without spending 3x as much to get the pro bundle. C'mon, DAZ, this sort of digital puritanism is asinine - charging people for an entire bundle just to get all of a human figure? You can't even get the geograft separately? How do you sleep at night?

    Damn!!! that is AWESOME!!! Wow!!!

Loving her....and of course, she is squirrel approved.  :)

If you decide to get a later Pro bundle which has them.

So i don't own any of her characters, but I think I'll go check her out now, cos this is awesome support.

For those who own Genesis 3 females made by Cynder Blue she just announced a free G8 morph for all her Genesis 3 females  for free! Now that is classy! Also really helps those who own G3 versions of her characters I love the idea.

Where did she announce this? I have several of her characters and would love a G8 version.

From CynderBlue with much love x

Due to the release of G8 and after reading comments from customers I would like to let you know that I will be adding a separate G8 morph file to ALL my G3F back catalogue for FREE download update. So if you are an existing customer of mine look out for an update notice from your vendor to re-download your model, for new customers the free G8 morph will be included as soon as possible and Promo's and product info will be updated to reflect the changes. All my G8 morphs are designed to work with your new free G8 figure and will not require ANY additional products to work. I hope this brings a little sunshine to the rain of the past few days for those who have been vocalising there concerns on content, cost and supply. I will as stated earlier, continue to keep G3F content as my main focus until you the customers decide you are ready for the change over and include version morphs until that time you may see the odd G8 thing here and there for those of you that have taken the leap already. As there are quite a few models this will be done over the next few weeks so watch this space for updates and notices on launches. Happy Rendering ppl. Have a great weekend. CBx

Agree. Nice to not have to rebuy characters you know and love and to provide morphs so you can take advantage of the latest tech.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

Serene, that's gorgeous. I just love the colouring in it.

I like V8's face - I don't like her eyebrows and the eyes are kinda off to me (can't put a finger on it), but I like the face look. And boy, I MUST have that hair by April, it's just superb.

I love Victoria 8. Great figure, fantastic posing and bends....

Posted a different render of this in the Iray thread but thought someone might get a kick out of her here. Girl7 morph transferred to G8. Had to use Ruby skin as Girl7 wont work on base UV.

I had fun playing with the morph transfer and I can see the advantages of the new model, but I'm going to have to take a hard pass on G8 until someone comes up with a decent foot clone. None of the shoes I have work and I just don't have the patience to re-rig every damn peice of footwear I own.

At any rate, here's the Girl on G8, enjoy :)

After testing Victoria 8 for a day, I have to conclude that there really isn't enough difference between her and Victoria 7 for V8 to be called V8. More like V7.3.

We gain HD expressions. Way cool. We gain geografted eyelashes. Okay. Why? We gain a base figure who is three inches taller than V6 and V7. Isn't 5'11" tall enough? We gain a figure with a masculine face and one hell of an ugly mouth. Well, I fought V7's ugly mouth, but I don't want to do it again. We gain a more primitive mesh that is even further removed from natural human topology than V7.

    And I can't convert my custom V7 characters to V8 without major effort. A 22 year old V7 looks 40 in V8.

So, I dropped $40 on an experiment. It was money well spent, really. It told me to wait for Victoria 9. Hey, I bought a Hyundai in 1986! I'm 6'4". You do the math on that. I've spent more on less.

Where to start with untangling this. Oy! First, V8 is a definite step forward and more than worthy of it's own figure line. The bends are much better, muscles follow the pose shape better, skin texture improvement, anatomy improvment, the skin actually moves with the expressions, improved eyes, nails, and feet, etc.

Second, converting characters from V7 to V8 is suprisingly easy. Redz has a tutorial on how to do it and made a post on how to do it here on the forum - and it's pretty fast and painless.

Third, "masculine face and one hell of an ugly mouth" I totally disagree. I think she's quite lovely and a lot more realistic looking than some of the past Victorias which trend to have unnaturally large eyes and faces that are too artificial looking. We still have a ways to go to hit total photo-realism, of course, but V8 is definitely a step forward.

Really, Diva? I'm with Nathanomir on this one. I think there is a stiking resemblance between a certain Ms Versace and V8 at least before the cosmetic surgery (see attached pic). However, I accept that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nevertheless, I think that the majority of people would agree that V8 has a significantly masculine face structure.

V8 does appear a little masculine, but I don't mind. She just looks more adult by this, which I think is great.

Wow. This looks great.  Care to share your shader settings?  The anatomy definition on this character is better than I have seen on any Daz figure.  I can't wait to see what the new Studio and iClone 7 bring to the table.  It's really a great time to be an amateur moviemaker.

... two things that really appeal to me about it is that I can use all my G3 textures on it (especially my SB3 textures - I love that product with a passion :) )...<snip>

Can you please tell me what are the SB3 textures?  I am trying to become familiar with the best texture and lighting packages.  This is what makes most of the difference in renders.

    Here's Mei Lin on G8F

Your Mei Lin looks great.  I am so drooling over the new figure.  Funny thing is, I had just finalized my decisions on what figures to buy for my film.  Now I think I want to use G8 and V8 morphs because they look so good in the renders.  Except for one main character will remain a G2 figure.  Great work.  I so look forward to this.  Daz3d is taking so much of the expense out of creating characters for an animated movie.

  • drzapdrzap Posts: 795

I'll wait and see what develops.  I have way to much invested in G3 at this point.  I was hoping for more realistic hair..  maybe soemthing dynamic.  And certainly dynamic clothes.  It'll take some convincing that this is a serious improvement over G3 for me to take the leap.  I'd love to hear what some of the best vendors think at this point - who's waiting and who's really excited?

If they give us hair dynamics and collision control (and I hope they do), It will likely be in the Daz Studio release, not in a figure release.  They promised something that will blow us away.  Maybe that was a little hint?

I was working on the first book covers for my new site when everything changed. That's okay- it changed for the better and the delays aren't a bad thing if it makes what I'm doing better. I'd also like to make animated book trailers next year. Who knows what kinds of options we'll have by then. Very interested to see what else is coming this year.

SB3 is Skin Builder 3 for Genesis 3 Females. Sorry for the abbreviation - I lazily assumed everyone would know what I meant because it's such a favourite product, certainly with me. It's so versatile that the promo pics and sales page can only ever tell a fraction of the story.

It's really easy to use and the support for it is top notch - the forum thread for it is here...

Now please Zev0 release G8 Age morphs as soon as possible. I find V8 and her characters too old. I noticed that each time a new gen arrives. Does it means that Victoria 10/12 will look like a grandma ???

So for now, I skip G8 V8 etc...

This is my first render using G8/V8...honestly I think her face is lovely. I think it depends on your tastes and what morphs you use as to how stylized her facial structure is (just like with most of the figures) I really like her though. I did find her "out of the box without the use of addons" bending to be nicer/more natural and I LOVE the puppeteer stuff for the face. It was easy to get somewhat of a subtle smirk going without it being way over the top. I used a lot of the stuff that released with her here and everything rendered really nicely smiley

She's not exactly a looker, eh?

Also, can someone explain in simple terms what's the appeal of the new G8/V8 generation? As far as I can tell it's just the same as G3?

She can look like anything you want. I just brought over 35+ of my favorite morphs from G3F, including Toon Generations, Legacy Shapes for G3F (the main G2Fs) and various characters (Lilith 7, Olympia 7, V7, etc.) I also brought over Xameva's fantasy shapes from Renderosity (the elf and dwarf ones), which look really good. The ears dial in right on those.

Will be posting test renders of things as I can. If someone wants to see what a particular character looks like on G8 or mixed with V8, let me know. If I have it, I'll move it over and render it. You can also use Redz method to move over items you've ported in to G3 from GenX2 or created with FaceGen. I'm not even sure you need any body or head morphs for these, the morphs are ported over via Morph Loader Pro and dialed straight in. (But I have those packs installed, so I can't verify that.)

The posing and facial rigging are huge steps forward in realism. The autofits work pretty decently. Sometimes Studio has to think a bit if you load entire outfits with lots of items. I'd recommend doing those one piece at a time. Being able to use the skins from G3F is a huge advantage. I managed to get a G3M skin on G8 as well, though there are a few seams. Haven't tried tranferring any G3M morphs over yet. Did try the Centaur for kicks and it didn't work, but I didn't expect it to. Might have to make a V8 centaur the way people were making V7 ones before the female centaur came out.

The possibiities with G8 are pretty endless and you don't have to spend much or anything to enjoy the benefits, just a little time and patience.

    Can you test Gwinneli

    https://www.daz3d.com/gwennili-hd-for-victoria-7

I transfered Gwennili to G8F via Redz morph transfer tutorial. She loses her HD morphs but one can almost make up for it by bumping up her Normal maps and her Bump maps to 2. Still, it's sad to lose here lovely HD details. Here is Gwennili transfered to G8F (with my own skin shader settings):

She still has a lot of detail due to me increasing her Normal maps and Bump maps to 2. But it would be nice to be able to have the HD parts as well.

Thanks for that tip, Diva. She looks great in your renders. I posted one above, but have a few more things to fix. I'll try those settings on the normals and bumps (and yes, I'd love to have the HD too.)

  • This is such a minor update to G3, its more like G3.25.

Neither (comercial) morphs from G3 will work, nor poses, let alone aminations. No way I'm buying this again.

Protip to content creators: Continue to support G3 with your G8 products.

    BUT IT HAS EYELASHES!
