Yeah, I'm trying to ignore the bigoted comments I've seen on the forums lately about how females over the age of 30 are no longer attractive or desirable. As if the mere act of aging devalues half the population in some people's eyes. I'm 47. I don't have an "expiration date" and I don't think Victoria should either.

    Well said!  Well said!

There is beauty all around us but some folks like those waif thin models with plastic faces I guess!  lmao

She's not exactly a looker, eh?

Also, can someone explain in simple terms what's the appeal of the new G8/V8 generation? As far as I can tell it's just the same as G3?

She can look like anything you want. I just brought over 35+ of my favorite morphs from G3F, including Toon Generations, Legacy Shapes for G3F (the main G2Fs) and various characters (Lilith 7, Olympia 7, V7, etc.) I also brought over Xameva's fantasy shapes from Renderosity (the elf and dwarf ones), which look really good. The ears dial in right on those.

Will be posting test renders of things as I can. If someone wants to see what a particular character looks like on G8 or mixed with V8, let me know. If I have it, I'll move it over and render it. You can also use Redz method to move over items you've ported in to G3 from GenX2 or created with FaceGen. I'm not even sure you need any body or head morphs for these, the morphs are ported over via Morph Loader Pro and dialed straight in. (But I have those packs installed, so I can't verify that.)

The posing and facial rigging are huge steps forward in realism. The autofits work pretty decently. Sometimes Studio has to think a bit if you load entire outfits with lots of items. I'd recommend doing those one piece at a time. Being able to use the skins from G3F is a huge advantage. I managed to get a G3M skin on G8 as well, though there are a few seams. Haven't tried tranferring any G3M morphs over yet. Did try the Centaur for kicks and it didn't work, but I didn't expect it to. Might have to make a V8 centaur the way people were making V7 ones before the female centaur came out.

The possibiities with G8 are pretty endless and you don't have to spend much or anything to enjoy the benefits, just a little time and patience.

    Can you test Gwinneli

To each his own, but certainly no need to make derogatory comments about someone else's creation as I've seen some do. Kidding is one thing, but I've seen some that definitely weren't kidding. Get's my dander up ;). I'm one of those weird people that loves a pretty face AND an interesting maybe not-so-attractive face - old, young, heavy or thin. I just love seeing what people can do with a 3D figure :)

Thanks, and sure, I can test her next. I already brought her over. Still waiting on this render to finish. Testing a bunch of things at once and it's taking a while.

  • One of the first things that appealed to me about V8 is she looks a little older.  But I like to render characters that in my mind are 30 plus.

This one is still going. Trying to get rid of those speckles. This is BD Esther on G8. I used her as the basis of my main character in the Black Kat series. She's on my Unlucky Charm book cover. I did some customizing on my version, this one is just straight Esther. She looks great! She has the "concentration" expression here from the G8 expression pack. Hunter Gear for G3M fits pretty well. There's a bit of pokethrough on the chest straps, which I also got on G3F last time I tried it. Dragonfly hair looks good, needs more posing, but this is just a test. The full body pose is a tweaked version on Aeon Soul's dynamo pose set for G3F. That's a 3Delight set in the background with no tweaking.

I used two scripts in the freebies forum on her: the pose fixer and the one to add lobe specular settings to G3F skins so they can utilize the new shaders. The skin looks really good, but is taking a while to render. Here's a screenshot of the render window. Gotta go out for a while. Hopefully it'll be done when I get back. Renders have been faster since I upgraded, but this one has the quality turned up a bit.

she looks great! I've noticed that specular noise with the new shader too, and havn't been able to get rid of it. It seems more obvious when I use a specualr eye light to get nice eye reflections. Hoping there's a simple solution.

Unfortunately, I have to side with the critics... Promo pics left me uninspired, or even uneasy at times. Certainly some progress seen in certain areas, and within time things will improve, but no out-of-the-box "wow" factor. Hope Daz guys will take note, and give more polish to the future products, which could be immediatelly apparent on the promo pics.

Thanks, Redz! The final version also had those specks in it. I had three photometric spotlights (two of them rims) and an HDRI plus some bloom. I also realized just now that there was a point light that loaded with that 3Delight set. I had thought I'd taken all of the old lights out. Maybe that's causing it. I'll do a render with Gwennili and some different lights plus the new skin settings and see if it shows up again.

I for one am glad these male oil paintings themselves do not find older women attractive as we are safe from the ugly old fools and they have buckly's chance with the young ones they seek so let them have their 3D girls with diallable boobs at least!!

Vicky has never been my favourite character hence not qualifying for the discount.

It depends on the context of the comment

someone said G8 looked over 30 and "old"

I replied that in some cultures women over 30 are considered
less desirable as potential child bearers.

Perhaps the person who thought G8 looked 'Old"
was from such a cultural background that gives them such an obvious bias

I used the Sickleyield tutorial, which worked but a bit hard to find things without screenshots. Does someone have a link to the Redz one?

I'm still on the fence about investing in this because I have probably at least a thousand merchant resource morphs for G3. I did try porting over one character on just the base V8 and she looks maybe a slight bit more realistic, but more girl next door than beautiful. For my work I use primarily really gorgeous characters and G8 does look less glamorous to me. I mostly don't need total realism. Anyway here is a custom character with Georgia skin and hair just on free base G8. Still debating if I need any add-ons since I did not get any special discounts although I purchased individually 99% of the bundle stuff from previous Victorias, but not the bundles at once.I really still don't see any advantages to G8/V8... And I don't want to have to buy all the stuff I already own all over again, yet for another generation...

I agree. I don't think age makes a woman less attractive. I am one of the people who doesn't think V8 is that attractive, but that's just me. How old a character looks doesn't bothered me. I actually love it when the characters don't all look like they just got out of highschool.

Well, in my case, I live in Hollywood, worked in the film biz, go to fashion and music events all the time and gaming/comic book conferences, so it is MY reality and where I live people are either actors and models or tried to be or used to be (including myself) and now went on to other careers so "regular people" do look like models or actors because they moved to LA to become that. To me, G3 models do look photorealistic because that's what a large percentage of LA people look like...  I think it all depends where you live or hang out. Although they are not all white, lots of stunning looking people of all ethnicities here.

Ugh. Seriously. I get it from both ends too. Both the "ugh a face that gets lines sometimes! and no poofy lips and more average proportions. How ugly!" and the "Ugh another outfit with a short skirt, what if I don't want my character to look like a prostitue" (there have been several complaint threads about outfits with skirts of the same length of skirts I own in real life... those are just so fun for me! :/)

We're slowly getting there with Gwennili on G8F (still rendering.) This is a bit grainy, but no bad speckles like the one before: I should probably just stick her in a studio with an HDR for a quick render, but I'm also testing other things here. So it's taking longer...

I realize that it's not actually a space suit. But it would make a pretty good one. If not for ... boob window.

    Sigh.

Don't forget there's a huge opening in the back, much larger than the front window...

    Hi @Llynara,

I love what you're doing with applying Genesis 3 Skins to Genesis 8! Every image you've posted in this thread looks fantastic! So much so I decided to buy Victoria 8.

I have a quick question. How are you applying the Genesis 3 eye materials? I've tried what @AprilYSH suggested (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2524026/#Comment_2524026), however I'm not having any luck with the appearance of the eyes using non Genesis 8 materials. Could you share your process?

Well personally I like the actual face shapes, it's always bizarre to hear them called ugly, but I have never liked super heavy smudgy eyeliners and mascara as it detracts from the eyes and in the renders looks blurred in the way I see it in most DAZ ad copy. If used it needs to be fastidiously neat and accurate the eyes, like Elizabeth Taylor in old movies or something.

Part of the issue is judging digital models *as models*. One falls into the habit of expecting them all to *look* like models. As in; the models whose images are being shoved at you from every advertisment or editorial.

Reminds me of a trip to the County Fair some 30+ years ago. There I was in the Fine Arts building, wandering my way through the Photography competition images. I embarassed myself by wondering, only to myself fortunately, where the entrants had found such a pack of homely models.

Then I mentally smacked myself upside the head, and took a second look. The girls in the pictures were almost universally quite attractive girls, *as girls*. But not one of them, even the decidedly pretty ones, looked anything like a professional model.

If you look at an image and expect to see "a model" sometimes you will be disappointed. Models are a specific sub-class of human beings. Most people aren't models.

Thanks, Trish! Glad you are finding these helpful. I'm having too much fun with them!

Most of the eye materials are loading okay. Usually I just got to Content Library and load the materials from the Genesis 3 Female->Characters folders without any issue. But a few are really funky, like Anneka's glowing eyes:

(For some reason, Gwennili's weren't a problem. Go figure.)

I don't know exactly what they changed with the eyes, or why some work perfectly out of the box and some don't.

G3 to G8 Eye Material Workaround

So far this has been succesful so far on the ones I've had trouble with:

    1. Load a G8F or V8 eye preset- doesn't matter which one. Just double click on one of them. You just want to overwrite whatever the issue is in the G3F material.
    2. Then go into the Surfaces tab and find the "Iris" section.
    3.
    4. Replace the "base" map with the desired G3F eye material. Just click on the picture of the base map and choose "browse" from the menu that pops up.
    5. You can find these textures under "\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Textures,"  often under the name of the PA, or if they're a DAZ original, under the DAZ/Characters folder.
    6.

(Please redo images to not show maps if you wish to replace them. ~mods)
