    Yes.

But then, what is this DAZ CONNECT feature?

I'm not touching this until I know what it does to custom categories...

I backed everything up before warily updating, but the new version did nothing to my custom categories and they're all where I left them.

I'm relieved that that's not changed, but to be truthful I've yet to see where anything has changed. Admittedly I haven't had much time to test drive the new version and I imagine most of the improvements are behind the scenes, but I've noticed nothing new feature-wise and no change in performance during the normal course of events. Slightly underwhelming, although I expect I will feel differently if I want to Power Pose and do it with plenty of additional specularity :)

    Yes.

A feature introduced in 4.9 (not this release), and like many other features, you do not have to use it. If you do want to use it, then you will need to connect your PC to the net just once. If you do not want to use it, just carry on as before, no installation methods have been removed.

oh was kinda hoping when saw the big deal of this new version the new genisis4/8 was going to be a part of it but wasn't

I wouldn't really expect it; new figure and new Studio the same day would be extra headaches.

The first time I've updated and the Measure Metrics password didn't need to be reapplied

You don't have to log it; you can uninstall SQL components. I did for months, but object to the spam that Studio subjects my SSD to when it is uninstalled.

This might be what is needed for gen4/8? Who knows? :)

I was guessing that Studio 5.0 would coincide with Genesis 4/8 release.

No reason why it should. If the auto-fit improvements had been done with Genesis 8 in mind (which is pure speculation, of course), and if the new Genesis 8/V8 is indeed due to arrive soon (more speculation), then I imagine that the new figure would work correctly with 4.9.4.

Yeah, given how well G3F seems to be selling, I would imagine that DAZ would have the common sense not to derail the gravy train just yet, especially when the G3s are in the process of finally replacing V4/M4 as the dominant figures in this hobby.  And really, any significant improvement on the existing figures is going to be dependent on enough new features/capabilities being worked into Studio that it would go beyond an incremental upgrade.  My guess is that we might see Studio 5 hitting sometime around the end of this year.or the beginning of 2018.

I'm a little confused about what is Power Pose and what is Active Pose and which one has been improved and how. Most of the language in the DAZ announcement is way above my head.

  • Alright I just updated Daz Studio and as for the auto fit the shoes from V4 to G3F still not working right even with the smoothing option. Can someone please tell me if they are having the same issue with the auto fit and how can I fix it thank you

Active pose is a tool, it lets you pin bones and adjust the pose around them - but only by dragging in the viewport, and only with translations. As far as I know it is unchanged.

PoserPose is a pane, it allows hot points on a template image to be assigned to parameters on the figure so that you can drag on the hot point to adjust the parameter without having to change selections (a more visual form of Pose Control parameters). Power Pose has been updated, it had been lacking the ability to support newer figures without hacking files but it now has the tools for creating and savng set-ups.

Boots and shoes, at least high heels, have always been a problem for AutoFit.

Achilles Heel of autofit I presume!

You're not alone. There are several further security programs indicating DAZ using some kind of trojan mechanisms.
Perhaps in DAZ they're harmless. But in general - yes there are suspective sigatures used by the developers.

I often pointed it out in the past but it was denied.

    You know what:
Several big companies and portals like facebook, yahoo, sony, etc. thought the way you do. And ...
They got hacked several times in the near past.

When this happens I go to a site like virustotal to see which AV's are reporting it.  If it's only ones that use heuristics which depend on many people downloading an app, I take it with a grain of salt.  I use Avira, which hasn't reported any problems with any DS updates.

Sigh. Norton Security 22.9.4.8 (The 2017 One) is paranoid, it deletes daz studio  .dll  files let right and centre because it feels like it, I keep having to report false positives to Semantic.

Today during the DS 4.9.4 install it deleted the daz automatic uninstall exe from the temporary folder because it was Bad! and wasn't trusted by their reputation system.  Bad Daz  lol.   I've learnt to wait for Norton to grumble when installing DS or it would have messed up the installed and I wouldn't have been happy

Thanks - that's encouraging me to update because I use the same combination (except I use the free BitDefender).

Ahh - that's a pity. I was hoping for an update to ActivePose so the pinned parts don't keep jumping out of place. I use it for animations but I always have to pull the limbs back to where they were supposed to be pinned which is a huge waste of time. I never use drag-posing (PowerPose) - can't seem to get the hang of it and the pose usually ends up in a weird contortion so I stick to the parameter sliders.

I'm not seeing this with a current version of Norton.
