Yup :) it was the Nvidia drivers needing updating. All working correctly now.
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/175016/daz-studio-4-9-4-pro-general-release#latest
got the security warning in norton too as always does not have a valid security license as usual but had the option to always trust it oh and you click the link and it then opens in dim for those don't know. beta got updated few times recently auto maticly don't use it though since the public build though did try it yesterday had the missing files thing where the figures looked like something out of minecraft
oh was kinda hoping when saw the big deal of this new version the new genisis4/8 was going to be a part of it but wasn't
Have you tried reinstalling it, make sure its the latest version.
btw you all know Jack Tomalin is offering a render service
Can anyone explain what dual lobe specular weight and chromatic SSS is?
Llynara:
Go to Help/?Installed Plugins and there is a serial number for Dynamic Clothing Control
Go to https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/serialnumbers to find the serial number to plugin
Then restart.
I used the DIM version with no issue but interestingly it did not overwrite version 4.9.2 I now have two versions on my system.. Must have been there a while as even version 4.9.3 did not overwrite it, though could be that I may have downloaded 4.9.2 as an installer version can't remember..
This might be what is needed for gen4/8? Who knows? :)
First, I said: if that whole list of complicated nomenclature is THE INFO, then I'll wait till someone comes along and explains it in English or a noob has a question that I'm too scared and noobish to ask, like.....
And then he said: Can anyone explain what dual lobe specular weight and chromatic SSS is?
So I said: If a POWER USER has to ask, I'm going to wait here by the shallow end until Richard Haseltine shows up with a life preserver for me to wear.
Linking me to a whole bunch of tech-speak (probably squarely aimed at VENDORS) isn't going to help. lol
I see none of the key words that I use like....
Shading
Materials
Rendering
Compatibility
Genesis X
Memory
RAM
Or trigger phrases like.....
GPU-assisted-Rendering
Rendering-times
Graphical interface...
CPU load......
--- something me brain can wrap around.
I don't have an option to enter a serial number but I did shut down DAZ, install the latest verion of the full plugin, then relaunched DAZ. It appears to be working. The panel appears to be the full version now. A lot of serial number entry areas are gone, but the plugins look like they are there. I'll have to go through and check. They probably need to be reinstalled too.
I think that's a reasonable assumption :)
I got an Email that linked to the promos on the latest Daz studio
Looks like alot of improved content mangement options
and decent upgrades to the IRay engine.
So like the version of 4.9x before it I shall pass on this as well
and remain on 4.8 for the foreseeable future.
I Make my own content and put it all where I want it
and I dont use IRay I render animations in C4D and PBR stills
in Blender via the teleblender script.
I'm not touching this until I know what it does to custom categories...
I'm wary of updates. My time with DAZ studio is limited, and sometimes new stuff can break other things. I just don't have time to troubleshoot this software. I'm also wary of losing dim. I love dim. And I just bought content package assistant to make installing of content easier.
So,,,,,,the big question I have is does this new IRAY allow use of more than one computer for rendering without purchasing a separate IRAY license? The mention of "Cloud" is interesting....
Oh boy, I certainly hope custom categories are preserved.
DIM works fine in 4.9.4 and they've repeatedly said that they have no plans to discontinue DIM unless very few people are using it MAYBE.
I don't use Connect, 4.9.4 is looking fine so far.
Experimenting with Dual Lobe Specular, as near as I can make out it's essentially adding an additional glossy/specular element that has two components, so you can have a tight/bright highlight, a softer more diffuse highlight, and then if you really want yet another highlight from Glossiness.
I have no idea why one would want or need three specular elements (plus there's always top coat), but hey, you got it.
I'm using DIM still with this new version. And it didn't mess up my Optitex Plugin as it may of Lynara's. Also my Smart Content & Content Library Tabs are unchanged but then I have never even categorized 1 item.
The biggest thing I noticed that I didn't notice before is the nVidia iRay Renderer is listed as a plugin. That was probably the case before but I didn't notice that being the case.
The full plugin needs to be re-installed every time Daz Studio has been updated/installed.The basic plugin installs with DS and since there can be only one Optitex plugins at once, the full one is replaced.
Interestignly enough I didn't get the security warning on my ROG laptop
By now it probably got the okay from most virus protection companies.
My entire content library has been categorized. I lost those categories on one of the upgrades and it took me almost a month spending every spare minute I had (3 or 4 hours in the evening and up to 6 hours a day on weekends) to put it back together.
If you do not see somewhere to put in a serial number then you are fine. The program stores such info for us so that we dont have to keep inputting the SN everytime we upgrade.
Are you talking about custom categories? Mine are the same sides would one just need to re upload their saved catergories under re import? I find running DS on 2 machines can be a pain and often content under my custom categories are awol until I re import them..
I spent hours catagorizing my poser stuff. I would be pissed if I lost all that. I'm going to back them up before I upgrade.
If they aren't backed up they will be gone. I do have mine all on an external drive (I actually have them on two different external drives, but it was actually a bit traumatizing to lose all of that work, so I am very cautious anymore.
I don't want my computer CONNECTED to DAZ over the Internet. With this new update - can the DAZ Studio I have on my computer be fully functional without being connected to DAZ or the Internet?
Yes.
