What I want to know is whether there is a version for manual download and install (yes, the "manual" version comes in an installer, too. But you can *download* it manually -- or at least you could with all the other versions.)

Because my product library doesen't appear to have the program available At All.

There's a 1.53kb file called Scene Builder for DAZ Studio Public Build +Beta+

There's a 1.15kb file called Public Beta Content 1 DS

There are Starte Essentials packages for Genesis and Genesis 2. (None for Genesis 3) And the subsurface shader base. Plus inactive plugins for GoZ, Photoshop Bridge, and PostgreSQL.

And that's it. No program files either for Mac or Windows.

The General Release manual downloads are here:  https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_13176

The Public Beta can only be downloaded with DIM.

Yes. Found it. Any changes in any of the additional content, or just the program and maybe the default Resources and Scene Builder listed up with the program itself?

I'd have preferred to try out the Beta, since it wouldn't wipe out my old version. But I don't use DIM.

FWIW, the Essentials and Resources downloads all seem to have the same file sizes and version numbers in the file names as they did for the previous D|S version.

If I remember correctly you get prompted with installation folder when installing DAZ Studio manually. If you change that folder to something else (say DAZ494 in the same Programs Folder) you can have them alongside each other. At least it was possible for 4.8 and 4.9 first release. Both non-beta.

    Yup, mine isn't.

Main concern of mine too. Same reason my oven controls don't see the internet. "Smart" devices usually aren't.

There's enough grumbling here that I'll probably hold off on the 4.9 update for now.

4.9.4 is lurking in my DIM menu under updates (as is an update for Measure Metrics for 4.9.4), but I haven't clicked the install buttons, so it'll stay there until I do so (metered connection).  Unless it gets sneaky...

I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall a bunch of plugins/re-input serial numbers for various plugins.

I did the update in about 5 minutes.  Everything works exactly the same; all content where it should be.  No issues whatsover.

Running W10 with 32GB Ram and i7 processor.

There is very little actual grumbing about  4.9.4. Most of the grumbling is about potential problem, past issues with other updates and general compliants about DAZ. You also don't hear much from the folks that have updated and are happily rendering.

I downloaded the update and it uninstalled fully half of my products. Luckily, I have it all on a 1 TB SSD, or reinstalling over 50g of data would take awhile...

Okay, here's a question. Has anyone installed the new version and tried to run GenX? Does that one work without problems? Because I have a lot of saved character files that are going to need to be ported to G3 (I've been dragging my feet), and the vendor is no longer available to help troubleshoot.

They'll still use the same AppData folder, however, which could cause problems.

So, I installed new update via Daz DIM no problems. My specs are in my signature. I did one test render no problems. My Alienware Workstation likes the new Daz studio so I guess it is OK. I have bad eyesight so I wish the Icons and Text inside of Daz Studio was BIGGER but asside from not liking connect inside of Daz studio everything so far works. I'm crossing my fingers. I usually wait a couple of weeks before upgrading to see what happens with the beta testers, and that is what we are ha ha.

    C:\Users\<YOURS-HERE>\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D

Copy the Studio4 (and Studio4 beta) folders somewhere to 'back them up' if you have issues, delete the folders and replace with what you backed up.

I made the jump! I had a warning with GenX2 about source not found. I reinstalled GenX2 and everything came back to normal

Just loaded up Studio, opened GenX2 and loaded a figure with no problems at all and have not done anything special..  So it is strange to be sure..

Has anyone now using the new version tried loading a saved scene from the previous version? I'm very wary because I'm in the middle of a project and may need to edit some saved scenes and re-render them. I've had problems before with backwards incompatibility.

I've opened up and rendered several with no issues

I've created in 4.9.4, and opened in 4.9,3

Thanks - I'm teetering on the edge of risking it. :)

OK - updated to 4.9.4.117 and all seems fine so far. Loaded a scene I had been working on and it is rendering right now ... no problems that I can see. Render speed looks ok.

Can anyone explain this dual lobe specular setting? I couldn't find much online except that it seems to have been added to improve the rendering of skin. I'm wondering whether it will improve the specular for GhostLights which tend to render flat and matte.

    4.9.4.117? It was 4.9.4.115 yesterday.

I wish they actually would *say* what version something is in the product library before you download it.

A few Powerpose fixes.  If you hover over the manual download link in your Product Library it gives the version number.

I have...no issues. Even saved it in the beta and reopened in the main version of DS...also no issues

I've had 3 crashes (and not out of RAM related either) after having no problems with prior versions for over a year after upgrading to 16GB RAM.

I guess I'll start filing the crashes again.

OK, so thanks to Genesis 8 showing up, I went ahead and upgraded.  I've been trusting the DIM since I first downloaded Daz, and have pretty much left the directories and such at the 'default' picks.

Looks like a painless upgrade for me via the DIM.  Just loaded a scene I've been working on, no issues.  Thank goodness!

    still no DIM install ?

I don't have 4.9.4 in my DIM...Do you think that daz will put it in DIM?

To see what it can do, grab a sphere primative and it allows you to have a smaller and larger (and different color) specular setting. In addition there is anotehr setting to select and it opens up even more.
