  • Oh. Absolutely. I'm not buying ANY of the G8 stuff because, "Didn't I already buy this at full price and itsn't G8 supposed to be backwards compatible with G3 like no generation before?!?"

Why do I need G8 Belle if I alread have G3 Belle?

Why is G8 so hot in trending? If customers jump into without asking, DAZ and the PAs have no reason to question where they should be focusing their efforts. They should be focusing their efforts wherever profits are biggest.

I dunno. I'm happy with G3. This PA sale isn't very exciting so far. I've seen DAZ start off slow and blow my mind at the end before, so I'm not throwing stones...

But I'm also not buying until the deals get better...

    WAY...

    better.

    ;)

Anyone else noticed that there seems to be a lot of "rebuy" new releases for Genesis 8.  Some of these have improvements.  But, alot of them just seem to be a repackage of the previous version.  I've gone ahead and bought some of the redo's for G8 because they include MR licensing for the new figure.  So, even though these are pretty much the same as the G3 morphs, there is a reason to rebuy.  However, for many redo items, I don't see the point.  Hair that works on G3F will work fine on G8F.  Also, there is not such a huge difference in using G8 over G3, that the previous generation  character or morph won't work just fine.

My point really is this:  PAs or DO that are just redo's of previous generation characters or hair or clothing, could be considered a software upgrade and have an upgrade price for current owners - maybe 30% of new purchaser price, to encourage the upgrade path.

Just as an example, I FINALLY bought most of the G3 characters that I had wishlisted for ages, just a few months ago.  Many of them, I haven't even done a single render with, yet.  Now, I'm seeing some of those characters returning as G8 versions.  I just can't justify paying again for each of those characters, hair, poses, clothing as they come out in G8 versions...particularly since one of the big selling points of G8 is how backward compatible it is and able to use so much from the earlier generations.

I fully understand that the updated G8 versions of products should be made available at new item prices for folks that haven't purchased any of the previous incarnations.  I'm just suggesting that an upgrade pricing should be available for people who have already bought previous generations of a  G8 character, pose, hair, prop, clothing...etc., so we can keep up to date without feeling like we're just buying the same items over and over every other year.  The ability is already in place, since Daz frequently does sales based on "if you own or buy X."  So, a PA should be able to do the same thing for verified purchasers of their previous generation products.

It's not as simple as you make it sound, for a number of reasons.

Using SY's tutorial, I've converted a lot of G3 hair and wardrobe items to the corresponding male and female G8. Some things work rather well, and somethings just plain break. High-heeled shoes are hit and miss! Shoulders, however, are always problematic. With the two generations using different base poses, (T-pose for G3 and A-pose for G8,) the upper arms and shoulders fit differently. Granted, I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but my attempts to adjust the rigging have only resulted in clothing fitting even worse when I pose the figure. So when a PA takes the time to update the rigging on an outfit so it fits correctly on G8, well, I think that has value.

G8 doesn't have a heel bone, but G3 does. That makes auto-fitting shoes something of a nightmare. Flat shoes tend to work okay, but you can forget anything with a heel, unless you have the know how to rig shoes for the next generation.

I don't fully understand "JCM" or "ERC" and the like, but I do get that bending on G8 is different than bending on G3, and so products that look identical on the surface actually use different code to accomplish the same thing.

And all those differences betweenn the two generations add up to a lot of tweaking by the experts (PAs.) You can learn to do it yourself. Or you can pay someone who already knows how to do it for you, (buying the G8 version of their product.) Both options cost you, one in time, and the other in money.

Or you can pass on the G8 line for now. You've already got all those G3 characters to work with. There's nothing wrong with them. G2 was the current generation when I got started in this hobby, and I still use G2, along with G1 and G3. If Daz continues to release a new generation every two years, you'll be able to pick up G8 stuff quite inexpensively in another year and a half, when G9 becomes the current generation. You certainly won't be alone if you decide to wait.

  • I only buy the G-8 clothing. At some point somebody has to release the first auto-fit/wearTHEMall and I'll do a back flip as I love the G8 clothes.

I can wait on everything else. I don't do realistic portraits so all the "Looks more real than..." isn't a big jump on the new pro point.

All of Daz deals are funny- the freebies too. If you use ATIs add-on and uncheck the 'hide owned' you see so much of your stuff being offered for free and discounted in radical ways. I guess that would happen to anybody with a big library.

    --------------

I'm still having a hard time understanding how all these utilities weren't available at launch. You have to assume a monstrous set of your users have...um....old content..and to not make it instantly compatible on launch day...I don't get it....

NOT having support for my currently used generation of characters is not making me buy 8 figures. It's not an incentive...

I'm a weirdo that I will buy Gen8 stuff that I can't (realistically or easily) use yet.

  • @L'adair

Count me in on... "Why would I jump in?"

Here is what I see... more natural poses/bends. I've seen some of the FREE poses that are already hitting for G8... and they'll even SORT of work with G3... but G8 looks so much more natural with less tweaking.

But the truth is, I'm about $2000 of content into this hobby with Generation 4 (V4/M4/H4/G4, etc)... Genesis 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3... and I've yet to make a buck off it.

I plan on changing that... either by creating content, creating fiction, or creating both, using this technology.

But G8 or M8 aren't high on my priorities right now. When it can help at least subsidize my habit, then I'll thrown more money at it.

would the 80% be the 50% off two, then 20% off for one New Debut, then it says today only get another 20% when you have two? Wow, I'm lost. I know when put two New Debuts, it's 68%, and with one, it's 60% (just tested the cart.) And yep, the Mega Fastgrab is MIA.

  • Yeah, I'm not seeing mega fast grab either.  The last PA is also missing a graphic, and has some code at the bottom:

I was able to see the sale page by clicking on the link in the email, but the sale page has gone kablooey since then. History tells me this is the Mega Fast Grab category - Toons: https://www.daz3d.com/sunday-september-9-mfg-items

I can't remember the vendors that were in the mega fastgrab tho.

I hope they get it straightened out. I really like Fara. She reminds me of Olivia from Law & Order SVU. Very beautiful!

Except for Valandar's store in the featured artist catalogs, which is showing no discount apart from the standard 30% off for PC members.

Ok that should now be fixed smiley

  • Honestly... I'm not really finding much that's interesting this PA sale. I was tempted to buy the new toon deer -and it is really cute, to be fair- just so I could get a good discount on EvilInnocence's store, but I had to stop and ask myself: 'Do I really need the deer?'

Plus, between pose converters that transfer G8 poses to G3 rather well and SickleYield's method to transfer G8 clothes to G3, I don't see an immediate need to upgrade to Genesis 8 yet. The heartbreaking loss of Dimension3D/Ralf meaning no GenX for G8 further cements this.

But... September is still early on and the PA sale is 10-odd days out of 30-odd. There could be some neat new things coming down the pike eventually.

Same here. I don't ever do toon renders, so have no use for toon figures. If anything the PA sale so far as added items to my wishlist, LOL.

Did somebody here buy Precious Deer and can tell us whether the download is in DIM or your Product Library?
