smokies and bears 2 different things?

Both derived from Smokey Bear,  and refer to Highway patrol officers, cos of the hats.  Bear in the air is old CB slang for a police aircraft, either fixed wing or helicopter, when it is flying over an incident.

    10-4  good buddy.

CB big in Wales, wuzzit? smiley

Used to be quite big, back in the day, all around the UK especially amongst the Country music Afficionado's and Truck drivers.   I had one in my MK3 Cortina,  with the aerial on a mag mount,  so I could uncouple and bring it indoors,  have known my boys to cart a car battery upsatairs and have chats with their mates at the other end of the estate, with the aerial stuck to a metal bedhead and hanging out the window. (when they were supposed to be abed of course)

My handle was Delta Dawn,  which was also my company name when I was trying to make a living as a self employed as a costumier for reenactment societies.

    whaz your 10-9 Delta Dawn?

    bears in the air.

As Sir Humphrey points out to his subordinate Bernard about how to change the Prime Minister's mind about appointing an unwanted person to a position of power.  First praise the person excessively, so that the PM then begins to think he might overshadow his own qualities.  Sir Humphrey reminds Bernard that " "It is necessary to get behind someone before you can stab them in the back."

Yes, 'twas a very revealing series.  We laugh, but both "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister" reveal many sad truths about human behavior and political realities.  They should be required viewing for all high school civics classes.

Another clip:  From "Yes, Minister" on the reason the British really entered the European Union https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkpS-yBj7gY

DAZing now under the influence of of Camille Saint-Saëns (Sa-saws said nasally).  His Piano Concerto#5 (The Egyptian) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUOxwpjpOr8  I particularly like the 2nd movement (starts at 12:15)

His trip to Egypt influenced this music.  The first movement is lively and typically European as if experiencing upper class life in Cairo in the early 1900s, but the 2nd movement makes one think of leaving the night time bustle of the main streets and walking down to the edge of the Nile river and strolling along it under the stars listening to the music of the local peoples who live in the poorer areas.  People from several different cultures where it takes on some middle eastern, oriental and even Spanish flavors.  The end of the 2nd movement is a slow deliberate step by step climb up some steps (24:28) to the main street level where he once again enters upper class venues and seems to join a 1920s type party at the beginning of the 3rd movement (at 25:08).  (I love the climb up the steps (24:28) because when it's played right, there are a couple of subtle pauses where you feel as if he's hesitating and looking back at the people below.)

The 3rd movement grows in intensity and finishes with what I feel is one of the happiest and most exciting endings in music.  This is of course one of my favorite pieces.

..OK,so anyone else here as badly inconvenienced by the nearly 5 hour long  "Scheduled Maintenance" (that was never announced via email  banner or any other means) which occurred during the height of Daz "prime time" for most of North America, Central America, South America, and the Pacific?

Crikey when I was in college we always got at least a day's warning and the procedure would be carried out during a time of low user demand.

It's as if Highways scheduled resurfacing of the M4 for a weekday morning and didn't bother to tell the motoring public about it

...I was trying to post a render test that I had just completed in a discussion about hair colour. Kept hoping at least by 01:00 Daz time teh maintenance would have been done. Still, not the best time to shut your site down (I believe it started around 20:30 here on the Left Coast).

How come there are too many joy killers in the world?  Someone asked me why do I have to be so "silly" in the morning?  She later said in a loud voice to someone else that I was too childish for my age or something like that. I do not know why I cannot be myself instead of being a grump.   I do not know what to do about this joy killer grumpy person.   Just because she has no joy in her life does not mean I have to be a grumpy person, right?

Some people just aren't happy unless everyone else is as miserable as they are.  Ignore her if you can, and keep your joy alive.  I know I'd rather be around happy people than grumpy ones.

Morning. Gloomy Monday morning but at least it is cool, there is a bit of rain around the land of drought and hopefully that will contain the fires causing so many problems to our neighbours across the Murray River. even if it doesn't flood. Having a few days off now cos between emergencies and producers I don't seem to have had a rest for a while, here's hoping :)

  • Yea, the snow is gone again.  Managed to get down my mostly ice free driveway and got to the drug store one day before my prescription ran out.  Yea!!!  Also, splurged on my budget and diet to get a couple of Dove solid dark chocolate bunnies.  (yum) smiley  I used to like those Cadbury's chocolate easter eggs but they've changed something.  Both the original cream filling and the ones with the caramel now have a yucky aftertaste.  Must be using an artificial sweetener now.  Yuk!

I did a complete water change for my twenty gallon aquarium.  RIght now the fish are in the bucket waiting to be put back into the tank.  I am waiting for the sand to settle down so I can aquascape the tank and reintroduce the fish. Hopefully this will make sure that the tank will not kill any more fish.
