Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 8
Note all prices are dependent on if you have the qualifying items in the cart.
Swam Hair- in the sale. Look at all the morphs in Morgane Hair, you can significantly reduce the top. Compare it to Lauren Hair, which has fewer. I'm picking up both I think, but it is good to note the number of morphs in Morgane. Also, take a look at the brunette hair in the thumbnails for Lorin Hair- it's a really classy style to use with a fancy evening gown!
And the Tonal Rage product goes down to 7.63 depending on what you have in the cart. Note Nydo Hair is $3.77 Charlotte Hair would be great for kids and one thumbnail shows you how you can shrink the poofiness/lengthen one side, change the bangs a bit. Kimmy Hair is another one that changes quite nicely, according to the promos.
For a good bundle, and to pick up Carson, Lover's Delight Bundle is already 65%, and it drops to $13.48 (Just Carson would be $11.85)
Daydreamer Outfit- I don't like the materials on the pants (that's easy, use a shader) but I like the flared bottoms, they seem fluid, and I'm tired of skin tight jeans. The top can be used for beach scenes/with other jeans. $6.91The cute Magic Ball (with shaders- change it up) is worth a peek for $2.70 if you have qualifying item in your cart (Arcanum sale, main promo banner. The Book of Spells is only $2.87. Again, think shaders. Some of those Iray metal/chrome for the hinges, and aged leather for the binding, and wow.) IMAGE IS HERE
I'm getting Orestes Iray HDRI Skydomes which triggers that Arcanum sale.
Oh, and Fast Grab has changed. Depending on what you have in your cart, test those prices.
I just tested- if you receive two gift card codes, the first one is usually wrong and the second one is right.
Art of the PromoI have to say I really like this promo image for Orestes Graphics The Morak Badlands.
Clever use of that asteroid space HDRI!
SereneNight's Sci-fi FunFantasy Skins for Genesis 3 is a pretty cool set. I'm also really liking the new Orestes winter grove HDRI's. Very nice looking stuff. I hope they make more. Orestes' produces nice quality stuff.
A List of Carrara-oriented Pro Artists in the DAZ storeLarsen has more than Red Sands Temple - Several of his kits are for Carrara, if I remember correctly and Orestes Graphics has some terrain products for Carrara....
just to add a bit ;)
A List of Carrara-oriented Pro Artists in the DAZ storeUB, Thanks for the list. I have quite a few from the list below. PAs with an asterisk mention for Carrara along with another program or more. IE: Studio, Poser, Carrara and Bryce.
3DCelebrity has Carrara Vista In the Clouds, Dynamic Desire Hair, Carrara Surface and Skin Shaders and any other Dynamic Hair . Vista in the clouds is very nice with lots of camera positions.
DAZ Originals has M4 Metro Hair.
Age of Armour has Skulduggery, Swashbuckler Boots and more.
AprilYSH has ModaCuts AtoE
DimensionTheory and ForbiddenWhispers has Winter Gels For Carrara, HDRIs... DimensionTheory has much more.
Larsen has Red Sands Temple
* ironman13 has 100 Essential Emotions for M4
* Lady Littlefox Sarsa has Medusa - V4
* Giko has GNBD Rocka Beaute
* Nightshift3D has Cooling Tower
* Orestes Graphics has Sykla Armor for V4 bbb
* Pixeluna RuntimeDNA has Marinda's Way A .pz2 file... also requires V4.2 Base and Oceana.
* 3DLust has Dragonfly AMUScott Livingston's Render ThreadHey everybody...long time no art! Here's one I've actually been working on for months...since the last time I posted here, in fact, although this is the first time I've shared it. Definitely the biggest and most challenging 3D project I've worked on (takes a while to fully render, too...about two whole days). No postwork...all the effects (smoke, fog, lightning, tears, blood/bruises, dirt, body hair, etc.) were done in Daz Studio, thanks to the help of fine products by Sickleyield, smay, SimonWM, Orestes, V3Digitimes, Exnem, ThePhilosopher, and MindVision G.D.S.
The character's name is Geanna (she's a customized Victoria 6 HD). She belongs to the same world as most of the other characters posted here (Daran, Mirian, Tse Lien, Elivia, Maaku, Bromodan) but earlier in time...to them, she's a historical figure of some importance. At the moment, she's going through a painful and pivotal episode in her life...and her actions from this point forward will reverberate throughout the Kingdom of Lorania. More on that when I post the final version to the Gallery.
I use Depth of Field in my renders so often that it's sort of become a crutch...I decided to do this one without, and to use lighting, composition, and fog rather than DOF to focus the viewer's eye.
Not sure I'm quite ready to call this one "done." It probably could use some postwork...or else some lighting tweaks...to make everything "pop" a bit more. Tough to balance aesthetics and realism...fog tends to make everything look a bit dull. What do you think? Feedback and suggestions welcome.
Title: This Is My Fight.
Daz Cow Share and Learn ThreadI'd be tempted to slap an emitter on those eyes and render it in iRay. Mwhahahahahaha!!! Then postwork in the laser beams shooting out of them. OR, use Orestes Studios' Electromancy Iray set, either of the hand lightning props, parent those to the eyes and render in iRay. Double MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!
OK. Sorry about that. It's the pain in my hip. It's affecting my brain. But I'm sure that Jim will appreciate it.
You called me the mad scientist! lol

Live Oak Trees?Carrara Monthly Challenge #30: WAR TIMES - Voting ThreadEntry: #3
Title: Against the Temple of Evil
Artist: Mark D. Olsen (MDO2010)Challenge Requirements:
- Modeled Item: The beholder was modeled and rigged in Carrara, the energy beam was made in the spline modeler, the armor and weapons for Lorenzo Lorez were also modeled by me
- Minimum Ten Figures: There are twelve soliders and three beholders
- Use of Replicator: the rocks and bones on the ground are scattered using two separate surface replicators, the running figures were placed with a surface replicator and then converted to real objects for final manual adjustments, the glowing spark/balls floating off the energy beam are spheres with their hotpoints moved to different distances from their center and placed in a surface replicator on one of the splines
- Show Climactic Part of Battle: This brave band of warriors delved deep into the underground world in a last ditch raid on the Temple of Evil but now their escape has been cut-off by three powerful beholders

Products Used
- The soldiers are all Predatron's Lorenzo Lorez http://www.daz3d.com/lorenzo-and-loretta-bundle with the medieval guard armor I made for them
- Scattered rocks are from various mmoir and Howie Farkes sets
- Them Bones by Orestes Graphics http://www.daz3d.com/them-bones
- Ron's Scifi Optical Flares http://www.daz3d.com/rons-sci-fi-optical-flares
Additional Notes:
- I started with a more claustrophobic vision for this, but it just was not working so I abandoned it until I found some concept art for the game Age of Conan that inspired this cavern temple. The temple and cavern were modeled in Blender and textured in Substance Painter. Postwork consisted of some color and overall light adjustments, adding the "godrays" and some additional flare effects (although I was very happy with the result straight out of Carrara, I wanted to punch the glow effects up just a little bit more).
Truth in advertising: Fast Grab and Freebies do not change dailyI'm so glad that they didn't keep to a daily change. I was able to get Hospital Room on its third day of Fast Grab. And it appears that they may be helping Orestes Graphics out by keeping his stuff on extended sale. They also did this for Ron Deviney when he had medical bills.
Flash Sale Alerts IIFast Grab changed around DAZ midnight. Annoying, when things have been sitting in there for days, even weeks, during these big sales. I wanted that Orestes Gift product, but was waiting on the PC+ products to make only one purchase. Now it's gone.

For those of you who don't have it, Baroque Grandeur is in there. Jack said it will be there for three days. One of the PC+ items is an Iray addon for it.
Energy BladesHi Andrew,
have you tried kitbashing these items? For example, use an energy effect on a sword? There are already a few neat effects, like

- http://www.daz3d.com/jepe-s-z-bundle-ii
Also, for product suggestions, there's an own section in the forum, where your suggestion is much more liekly to get pickeed up: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/product-suggestions
Maybe you ask one of the forum mods to move it over there?
Is this the type of effect you are after?

Lots of Ron's Brushes and other things in Fast Grabmy I did, but clearly I have to experiment more. ;)
Will, it doesn't look bad at all. One thing that helped me was to match the rendered lighting as closely as possible with the digital energy brushes. That helped a lot, and made the brush effects look more believable.
Here's the raw render vs the final version with postwork side by side. I also added a hue adjustment layer to match the effect (and looks like a saturation adjustment layer too.) I just kept playing with it until I liked it.

You could also try putting a point light in his hand or use one of the rendered effects props such as Serpio for 3Delight- there's a glowing ball in that set that generates a lot of light, then add the brushes for an even cooler effect in postwork: http://www.daz3d.com/soldiers-of-magic-serpio

I'm getting ready to do something similar with Orestes' lightning in an Iray render, I can't find an Iray product that looks as good as Serpio yet (though I just got some of Jepe's stuff and am going to play with those too.) I have LOTS of superheroes to render, so plenty of chances to try all kind of effects both in the renders and in postwork. Will post a few here when I do.
Pyromancy and CryomancyI finally figured out how to use Orestes' Electromancy (http://www.daz3d.com/orestes-electromancy) and its add-ons. I love it! But now I want more...
Pyromancy would be like the fire-based version of Electromancy, and Cryomancy would be the ice and snow-based version. Poses, props, Iray and 3Delight versions.
Please?
GENERAL FREEBIE REQUESTS Part 2Try this one There's also this one, which is probably more of what you'll need.
Thanks TG. Would you believe those Orestes Graphics leaves were in the Fast Grab today? I picked them up for $3.00.
Good timing!
I'm still interested in changing transmaps, etc, so I will be checking out those links you provided when I get a chance.
GENERAL FREEBIE REQUESTS Part 2Anyone know where I could find loose yellow oak leaves for a fall scene with leaves blowing in the wind. I could probably make it work with 1 yellow oak leaf, I just can't find any freebies.
Found one in the store for $12. Too much.
Thanks!

Carrara Challenge #28: Marriage voting begins nowCarrara Challenge #28: Marriage
Kindly Sponsored by OrestesGraphics and Daz
Please see new concept rules for voting - at end of this post
With things going on In the last winners life I have volunteered to run the challenge again.
But also in honor of what is going on in Phil's family life we have come up with the theme of Marriage.
That could be as simple as portraying a couple, but could also be putting two disparate items together that would not be usual, or any kind of "joining together"
So the rules are simple:
1) Make a render having to deal with the theme of Marriage..
It could be a design of a new shader Joining two or more basic shaders with the layer shader options.
It could be a Car crashed into a tree in an unintended Marriage of Carnage.
It could be Sci FI shotgun wedding because someone was messing around with the wrong alien
Or it could be a traditional Marriage style image in either Realistic style or non photo-realistic style.
Basic rules will be:
1. Each participant may submit up to 3 images into the Challenge.
2. Images must be new (previously unpublished).
3. Images must be primarily set up in Carrara.
4. Images must be rendered in Carrara or in an external renderer for which there is a Carrara plug-in (e.g. LuxRenderer, Octane).
5. At least one WIP (work in progress) image must be posted to the WIP thread
7. Screen shot of the scene in Carrara to be included in WIP - (sorry added this later).
Please note, there is no requirement for the winner to host the next challenge, unless they want to.

As with the last challenge because we are having up to three images an entrant we could judge the winner by their scores combined. ie if their image 1 gets 24 votes, their image 2 gets 12 votes, and their image 3 gets 12 votes then they score 48.
2nd and third and HM would be as per usual - ie based on votes for one image.
This seemed to work quite well.
PC+ sale here now, any must-buys for Cararra? The Wrap-up and unfinished businessI think that Ringo Monfort has some great Carrara Specific products: Shaders, Brushes and Skies
Speaking of Skies, Tim Payne and Phil Wilkes have some excellent products as well, Phil also having cool scenes and dynamic hair!
Tango Alpha, mmoir (Mike Moir) and Howie Farkes also have wonderful scenes where mine are more like scene-creation helper kits and 3DLUSTs are high-end SciFi interior scenes
MatCreator has some cool Shader kits, GKDANTAS, Dimension Theory and Age of Armour have assorted excellence for Carrara users as well.
I often forget some of our other excellent Premier Artists who make some really cool stuf for Carrara - simply because I'm often typing and connecting links in a hurry! LOL
Orestes Graphics makes some cool Terrain pieces... so does 3D Celebrity, whom also has a skin shaders kit - and there's a bunch of others making hair and such... I'll get back to this later when I can! ;)
Keep in mind that some of these artists make stuff for other software - so be sure to read the descriptions! ;)
