Got a Poser character for V4 as a Christmas gift from a vendor, gave it a try with iRay for fun to see how it would handle the Poser mats without any IRay shaders (used JM Human Shaders for the eyes though, as the Poser ones looked weird). Looks pretty good IMO (had expected something awful). The dark version is with the JM Human Shaders skin shaders.

Nice night scene. The concentric rings actually work as it looks like different particles in the air that are causing it.

Changed the background. All other settings remain the same.

...the skin tones in the top one look similar to the albino experiments I've been working on.  Just wish I could get whiter hair.

What skins/shaders are you using? BTW, it looks like the character I used has been put as a public freebie if you want to try it:

Really nice render, Kyoto.  Did you post work the exhaust smoke, or is it trans-mapped geometry with that model?  And while I'm asking, what product is the truck?  I really like it.

    ...thank you both

I used Jepes FlameZ for the fiery exhaust.

In the 3DL version I used the Smoke N' Flames tool but because that uses a series of cels for animation purposes, it didn't work as the Iray Emissive shader would not apply to the individual cel and the flames came out too dark.

The Truck is the Big Bill Truck and Big Bill Trailer which are sold here.

  • Very cool.  Just bought the truck and trailer.  Great deal with them for $4 total with PC+ discount.

I see now that the exhaust is flaming.  I think my initial thought was that it was smoke just because of the similarity in color to the overall tone of the scene.  Either way, still a really great render.

This scene was less about composistion as it was just an experiment with building up shaders from scratch.  It started as an attempt to make grapes look realistic as an excercise in working with SSS and translucency.  All of the props except for the picture on the wall as free objects I picked up from around the web.  The grapes had some poorly done diffuse maps that I had to rework quite a bit in Photoshop.  All of the shaders in the scene I set up from scratch, except for the picture.

Unfortunately, trying to render 100 or so translucent objects takes an absurdly long time.  I finally stopped the render at about 54% and around 9500 iterations which consumed close to 4 hours of render time.  I may rerun it later tonight since there are a couple of issues that didn't manifest until the render was well underway.  Specifically, the geometry showing up along the transition to shadow on the bowl, and I didn't catch the texture seam on the back right corner of the table.

Edit: I mistakenly neglected to mention the copper on the kettle is from MED4D's PBR metal shaders.

Edit #2: I can't believe I also forgot to give some credit to @AndyGrimm for providing some great guidance on translucency.

It looks really nice. The bowl looks like a SubD issue.

  • Yeah, I agree.  I applied the subD modifier to the geometry when I imported it, and it's set to high resolution, with the render sub-D at 2.  None of my test renders had the issue, but none of them ran as long as this one either.   I'm going to bump the render sub-D to maybe 4 and then kick it off again when I go to bed later.

Nice image. The writing on the coach is back to front though. Was that intentional or is it that way on the original object.

Grapes!! Contrats KurzonDax! Great job everyone!

Like a lot of images, this started off as a simple experiment that blossomed. Specifically, 'oh hey, Shattered is on sale. Ok, let's see what I can do with it...'

More experiments with Iray Worlds. This time, the sky and the horizon image are both my own, generated in Carrara.

  • Nice renders, Will.  I bought Carrara on sale a few months ago and I can count on one hand the number of times I've opened it.  Not enough hours in the day to do/learn/try everything my mind wants to pursue.  Pretty much the definition of ADHD, I suppose.

Thanks, magnum! Three days, an innumerable amount of spot renders, and few less active hair follicles on my head, but darn it, I got me some grapes.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,084

I've had Carrara for a while. I've mainly used it for various odds and ends, like 'huh, I want a vaulted ceiling here' or 'huh, I need a square-based pyramid.' I also made a karabela, and a few other things. Just enough to feel like the sale price was worth it.

But, after wrangling with trying to make decent skies, boom. It hit me. That and some recent cheap clouds and other presets for Carrara. So there we go!

    i saw this to late

    yes its the original texture

on the other side its ok

    so a texture flaw

I don't render female nudes that often, so I thought I'd rectify that with a topless woman!

  • One might say that your topless woman has a nice rack (of ribs)

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,084

    Drum riff!

Here's another nude, a bit more normal -- nude woman about to loose an arrow. I don't know if the pose is quite right, I started with a canned pose and adjusted it so she didn't sheer off important bits.

Been working on this...I need to attempt to understand all the things in the skin thread so I can begin to try implenting them.
