Work while rendering - within DS

Is there a possible setting which would enable you to work on a scene, such as check light settings or settings within a light set, or just look at possibilities for the next render? As of now, once you hit render, that locks out the ability to use smart content, or look at anything. Not wanting to change any settings , just the ability to look at possibilities

run beta alongside release build?
that could work other than having to load/install pretty much a lot of the same products I have on my main program.
you mean plugins?
can copy most over
I have in the 4 versions of D|S I have installed
some need extra bits found outside the plugins folder or in application data like GenX and LAMH
but it's definitely doable
If you mean Product-Library, you can just path it to the same folders as your 'main' DS
Wioth how intensive the use of the graphic card is using Iray? Even if it could be done, I'd imagine that you'd be looking at a lot of crashing.
I run DS4 and DS6 at the same time most of the time. You can run renders within either one as needed, though yes, they will sometimes crash if you try to render in both at once (assuming the second one doesn't run out of VRAM instantly). Frankly, even with occasional crashes, having two instances of DS running is a godsend and I have no idea how I worked without two instances in the past.
The other value to both is instant access to plugins that haven't been ported yet.
I found a few ways to minimise crashing:
