    Seeing Barbult's latest image reminded me of an occasion at home with our last but one cat 'Rooster', a ginger & white Maine Coon with one non-Maine Coon grandparent. Rooster was totally uninterested in most birds, but had a deep and abiding hatred of Magpies.

    One summer afternoon he appeared to be asleep in our open conservatory doorway. There were Pigeons, Blue Tits, Blackbirds, Thrushes & Sparrows on the grass in front of him, all within 25ft, and he was lying there, eyes closed, front paws tucked under his chest, apparently asleep. A Magpie landed on the grass 45ft away, and Rooster exploded into motion. He went from 0 to flat out in an eyeblink. He raced through the flock near him, knocking a Ring Collar Dove off its feet as he raced towards the Magpie, The Magpie made a mad scramble to get back in the air and lost a single tail feather as Rooster launched himself into the air to get it.

    Thoroughly annoyed and loudly muttering/grumbling to himself, Rooster plodded back to his sleeping spot through the charnage left of the bird feeding area. There were feathers everywhere and the flock of Sparrows and a Robin all shouted their disgust at him from the bushes next to the lawn. Once he settled back down to 'sleep', all the acceptable birds came back to feed.

    Basically, cats are weird.

    cats are also dumber than birds. The current one tried sneaking up on a crow that was strutting across the lawn. When she got a little too close the crow turned, looked at her until she sat up, and hopped off a few feet. The cat then started to try to sneak up on the crow again. This repeated three or four times.

    The cat before the cat before this also tried sneaking up on a little bird foraging in the grass. When she got too close the bird took off, hovered briefly over her head, and then landed at an acceptable distance behind her. The cat turned round and resume sneaking. Again, this repeated seveal times before the bird flew off.

    I'm pretty sure that in a mammal vs. dinosaur contest the dinosaurs would win.

    some fancy pedigree cats are just clueless and wouldn't survive without humans cheeky

    I seem to always get the basic moggie kind that find something to kill no matter how hard I try to prevent it

    even my strictly indoor one managed to find, kill and bring me a mouse who dared to broach my house

    when I had ones that went outdoors I was constantly finding half eaten kills under my bed of all varieties 

    avian, rodent, reptillian

    usually feathers and feet, or headless if the latter

    Well what can I say, other than check-out the top of  This Page  for a much smarter animal   :-D

    That aside, I already had a mental picture of Wendy being some sort of cat-obsessed Witch, surrounded by casts while sat at her couldron.  Well that stuff about dead things being left under her bed, has only served to strengthen that mental picture, since she could collect these 'gifts' and use them as ingredients for her couldron!

    As a further aside, I saw a documentary yesterday, one that literally had me quesitoning whether it was made up.  Apparently, we have an invasion of Ring-necked Parakeets in the UK.  I found it hard to believe since I've never seen a single Parakeet in the wild, not ever.  I live near a Nature Reserve now, and even there I have not seen a single Parakeet.  Personally I would love to see one, alhough according to the documentary, they're a meance to our native birds!

    Honestly, I thought it might be a test to see how gullible people are these days, but no, it appears to be a proper Channel 4 documentary :

    I've seen parakeets in a park in the London area some years ago. So far none nearer to me (South coast near Southampton) but maybe the seagulls keep them away laugh

    I'm wondering if Barbult has something to do with it.  Barbult does appear in the documentary for a short while, and there was one Parakeet even got its mugshot taken, exactly as happens in Barbult's stories about Richard and the gang!

    You have to admit, it does a look a bit suspect.  Perhaps the Hyacinth's are the "Ring" leaders behind it all  :-D

    Well that's odd (Channel 4 is a free channel).  I just paste the URL into croxyproxy.com whenever I come across a blocked video.

    There have been Parakeets near Torbay for close to a century. There are also luminous scorpions on the Isle of Sheppey and have been since before WW2. Regards, Richard.

    They may be the same species as the Sheppey ones. I suspect someone knows where they came from, even though I don't. Regards, Richard.
