Most of my June and July art projects involved hand drawing or writing, so nothing I'd consider DAZ-related.
In fact, yesterday I finally downloaded DAZ Studio 6 because I'm curious about the Map Transfer feature. In DS 4.24, it is irreparably broken because it may've been tied to 3Delight to generate maps. (It stopped working after the 3Delight render engine was retired/removed.) When I tried it, it just gave me back a black image. I do have an older version of DS 4 that works as intended. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to check if this was "resolved" in DS 6. I don’t think it has because most people don't edit their textures like I do. The "proper" texture artists stick to their specialized apps, and everyone else...they're DAZ artists because they want to make illustrations without having to draw or paint by hand.
Right now, I'm still working on my jacket texture that has my OCs featured in it. I have sketched Gina's brother on paper, and now digitally lining the art. I did do some "mixed media" in making the kaleidoscope effect as the background, since the jacket design is supposed to be abstract/random. I did want to draw Gina’s cousin instead but I do not have any drawings of the brother wearing his crown. He is usually wearing a beret or other soft hats. (The character is weakened by his psychic powers, which allow him to have extremely accurate visions of things that will happen, and perfect/flawless aim, so he is extremely dangerous with guns or bows or darts, etc.)
Also, the store has been updated like...2 weeks ago? It's very laggy on my phone, so I don't really window shop here anymore or visit the forums much. Before, I just wishlisted the items that caught my attention, then logged into my laptop to look into them further. I also liked RenderHub a lot, because it's a competitor site, I shouldn't speak of it much here. But due to a sudden policy change, that didn't affect me but affected many vendors I liked, it was finally enough for me to register to another competitor site. (I will just buy the last items from vendors I can't find anywhere else, and download everything.)
I will not name, names, but this competitor site I joined feels so...hostile and unwelcoming, that I'm not even sure if I should buy anything from them. Some RH vendors I like are on there and not Renderosity. There are other vendors that I've been wanting to buy stuff from but they seem to be only on this unwelcoming site.
Speaking of hostility, the updated Product Library...it finally has advanced search options...but the search options are...not good. Last week, there were several freebies by the vendor, Censored. So when I search "Censored" or "DAZ Originals," in the Artists section (the freebies had both listed as their creators), nothing comes up. I must type "CIJ" in order to find these freebies. So even that is annoying enough for me not to stop by often. -_-
This is a screenshot of the jacket map. (The soft color block is from a camo design I have completed. I just need to do the boots, belt, necklace and top.) I am mostly working on it in 2D art apps, because that's what I'm most comfortable in. The purpose of this project was for me to have something in my 3D renders that I could say that I 100% created it. Even though, at this point, it's just a lot of copy-pasting and rotating. I do import into 3DCoat to try to get the seams lined up, but most of the touch ups are by hand.
I tend to color my more detailed work in an unconventional manner. Most people tend to discard any pencil sketch they do, after digitally lining their work. In this particular workflow, I colorize the pencil sketch and paint onto it more, since I want it to further blend together. I even add noise to the purely digital parts just so they could mimic the paper texture, and blend seamlessly together. Nowadays, I tend to have a "big" art project that utilizes this workflow and it seems this jacket is that big project. Unfortunate, because I love posting these to my main DeviantART gallery.
TBF, I think most DAZ texture artists who do freestyle drawings for their textures tend to do tattoos than complicated doodles like I'm doing. The closest I have seen that I can prove to you is the octopus tattoo of Maxx HD Mega Pack for Brute 8.
Here is the completed design of Ernie, Gina's brother, and the sleeve. My intention is for the design to look like it's continously printed along the jacket, except for a top panel.
The bottom that I have "rectangled" is where I must make up a random pattern that merges Gina's birds with Ernie's...whatever is going on with him.
I have not decided what to do with the pants. Ernie's default color palette for his clothes is based off of Mickey Mouse, meaning that his pants must be red and his shoes must be mostly yellow. Gina doesn't strictly stick to a color palette because she's poor, so I can do whatever with her. But, she loves black, so I will have to incorporate this with the red.
I will add on here, because I only want to "bump" my thread when I have relevant art project pics (the WIPs), but I don't think we can post art in the DAZ Galleries anymore. I need to look through what I have there and see if it somehow made it to my DAZ renders DeviantART. As always, DeviantART has proven itself to be the most reliable art site to archive my work and I'm thankful that the good strangers of Yahoo! Answers [RIP] told me about it.
Good news, DAZ Studio 6 can do the Map Transfer again! But it's quite laggy, so I'll stick to DS 4, for the time being.
I have some older Merchant Resource Make-Ups that I go back and forth with, with other UVs that are not G9. I did this a lot with G8F and an old V4 set. It's easier for me to convert a test skin than to manually convert all the images in the .PSD layers that have these makeups. ^^;
I first noticed that other than the eyes, she has no realy kelpie like qualities. (shapeshifting Scottish water spirit-horse)
Since this is my WIP thread...this past month (August 2026) I was going between working on my writing projects, and asking Google Flow Music (GFM) to make my original lyrics into songs. The main reason I ended up making several songs with GFM was because they were mostly English versions and Spanish versions. (Though there are a couple of Japanese versions and one French version.) What I learned from this was that my songs sound so mid in English, even though I originally came up with them in English. The Spanish versions were always better…the lyrics flowed better and the vibes were more accurate. (But this was a user problem.)
My overall experience with this service is that it is absolutely vital that you treat it like a genie. Tell it exactly (or like 80% close to) what you want and bring in your own lyrics. The lyrics it can come up with are mostly what I can describe as “cool-sounding nonsense.” They flow, but they make no sense and feel irrelevant. This is also why my songs are mainly English and Spanish because I am fluent in both these languages and I made sure the lyrics were correctly translated.
One of the biggest complaints I’ve seen was the difficulty in having a consistent performer between various songs. The songs I made were made as if they were “recorded” by my OCs. While many suggestions in using GFM/Lyria were to write things like “high-pitched male,” I had better luck with using “male tenor,” so the songs that were covered by this male OC all mostly sounded kinda like him…if he had a generic American accent, but the pitch was accurate.
So my suggestion is that you understand the basic and very crudely-described choir/opera vocal types:
You can also say things like “smooth,” “youthful,” “raspy,” but the AI may or may not obey this. It also seems to make “stererotypical” songs, which require you to understand the lyrics’ tone and “appropriate” genres.
My male tenor song is supposed to be performed by a jester and the lyrics make mention of a “crimson curtain” and that the singer is “not your fool anymore.” Obviously, I asked GFM to use stereotypical carnival music with “street organ” and “calliope organ.” The Spanish version had the added instruction of “Latin and Mediterranean influence,” and I got a beautiful song that can be described as “half-opera/half-synthpop with more violins than organs.” The jester’s performance was both “defiant” and “vulnerable,” it sounded like he was on the brink of descending into madness, yet eventually succeeded in keeping it together by the end of the song. Dare I say it? It was perfect for him. The English version? Ha! GFM decided that this jester recorded this song inside a barn on his spare Samsung phone (while his good phone was on vibrate and interrupting his recording randomly, because someone was trying to get in touch with him, while he was busy trying to sing.) And the rooster in the barn was happily crowing throughout. The English one was the original, but it sounds like a parody…which ironically also fits the OC’s quirky sense of humor. XD
This experience made me want to learn how to use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for complete control so that I feel my results are acceptable to attach my name to them. But also, GFM didn’t want to make a “theatrical” English version of the jester song. I guess his song will just stay in Spanish. (I'm sure it would be great in Italian too, but I don't know Italian to accurately translate the lyrics.)
And of course, what I rendered in DAZ is a kit-bashed outfit that I plan to trace over. All you need to know is that I somehow managed to recreate (via convergent evolution) Voldo from the Soul Calibur franchise with Invicta Couture. But since I do not plan to share the finished drawing here, I will just post screenshots of my viewport.
I have not decided if I should bother with a proper render. But if you have parts of this series and Wagner 9 (or a Baldur's Gate Astarion look-alike character), you can get something close-enough. For even more accuracy just leave him bald. This is a serious project, for me, but I am laughing my butt off right now. X'''D
The character I am trying to make a traceable base for is a bard/warlock (specialty is dance.) Here is a pic of the character holding a random book prop which I will trace and redraw into a grimoire.
Also, I was not expecting the Court Buffon's shoes to nicely conform to the Invicta Couture sandals (the ones without the ridiculous socks.)
And because my sense of humor is just like that, the full-body pose is loosely based off the OG Sonic the Hedgehog, but "mirrored" and shot at a different angle. I decided that with this character I'm drawing, he needs to pose like Sonic.
Sometimes I feel like underselling whenever I describe my DAZ trace-overs. In this case, I didn't even use the actual harness and I drew in a ridiculously huge hat that uses more fabric than the actual "outfit" he is wearing, (which I will crop out just in case.) I have placed the render under the trace, so you can see what I did and what I based it off of, as if it were a sketch.
(Also, my lines are always so thick that it's noticeable, if I try to draw over a Filatoon lined render.)
Like many other DAZ users, there are times that I wish for a specific clothing item or prop, where nothing remotely similar to it exists. (I couldn't even find a stylized jester similar to this, and that's why I did this render and trace-over.)
As for the character himself, he was employed as a court jester. (I use past tense, because he died about 80 years before my story takes place.) He is one of the most famous ones in his world and part of it was due to his weird and ridiculous outfits. However, he's technically a clown, despite never wearing clown makeup. (Was usually masked, as shown.) He's a contortionist and dancer, and occassionally made attempts to sing, but rarely made political jokes. If he did, they were unintentional remarks, since he was very sarcastic. Most of the other court jesters, past and present, are basically stand-up comedians or musicians.
