Complaint:  Woke up in the middle of the night upon realizing that I'd left an SD memory card in the slot in my old printer.  Old printer was now sitting in a cardboard box out on the porch waiting to be disposed of but getting damper and damper as the night's cloudburst drummed on the metal porch roof outside my bedroom window.  But being the middle of the night, I just rolled over and went back to sleep.cheeky  Got up the next morning and checked on the printer.  The box fit the printer snuggly.  In trying to reach the SD slot, I tore the damp box in the wrong place(forgot where it was).  Finally had to tip the box on its side and wiggle the heavy printer out enough to reach the memory slot without destroying the box any further.  And of course, the slot was empty.frown  Apparently, 'twas but a dream.indecision

Note:  Old printer is in a box for convenience when carrying.  It's the box from my replacement printer.  Box has handhold slots in the ends.yes  Hopefully when the box dries, it will still support the printer inside.indecision

@SilverGirl  Head banging to escape to a new world doesn't work.  You just wake up in the same Universe, but now with a headache.frown

surprise  Well that's frightening! Keep safe!

Non-complaint: My motherboard is not fried! We got the new power supply installed, and everything seems to be working again. I haven't tested yet to see if the original problem with rendering and Planet Coaster is gone. Fingers are crossed, though. Also, when we first hooked it up, we didn't get the D & E drives connected right, so all I had was C. And, oh surprise, Windows worked just fine. Because contrary to what the repair guy said, WINDOWS IS NOT SPLIT ON MULTIPLE DRIVES!! I am so uninmpressed by the repair guy at this point. Anyway, all the drives are connected now, so that's great.

Non-complaint: My cat does not have cancer! yes The vet called this afternoon. She has a mast cell tumor. They think we should probably take it off anyway. But it's also OK if we wait and watch it to see if it grows. It shouldn't spread, though. Apparently that usually only happens with dogs. She said she'd send me a cost estimate for removal, but I haven't gotten that far in my emails yet.

Non-complaint: I missed typing on a keyboard. lol.

I'm glad it is back working. It sounds like you definitely need to find a new repair guy.

That is very scary, hopefuly the evacuation zone was defined broadsly for safety and you are well clear of danger.

Oh, wow. The estimate for Shasta's cat surgery is $735 - $849. surprise Vets are expensive.

Non-complaint: Ice cream season has begun! Lovely weather for our walk, and the rental station was well-stocked. Teen Kiddo is a happy camper.

complaint: Nothing on earth prepares you for the first time you're walking down the sidewalk and a car full of guys catcalls your (so very obviously underage) kid as they speed past. With you standing right there.

non-complaint: At least Teen Kiddo's reaction was to burst out laughing. "Epic fail! I DON'T UNDERSTAND SPANISH!!"

The current evac zone is 1 mile square around the plant.

Non Complaint: We are approx one mile north of the light damage blast boundry. Complaint: We are directly downwind in the smoke plume zone if something severe does happen and will need to leave.

Bonus: I am finding out a very dramatically good use for Google AI. I type in my exact address and get literally minute to minute status of risk, predictions, wind direction, blast radius, trasffic conditions, evac shelters, how full they are, all within about 30 secs from my keyboard. It's really pretty amazing how much information the AI can dig out in a short time.

I really can't overstate how much that has helped today, even just to help keep people calm.

That is really cool.  It's nice to hear of AI being used for good.

Non-complaint: I played Planet Coaster for half an hour, and it didn't crash. That's at least twice as long as I'd played it with the old power supply. I feel like we've found the problem. Now the only problem is that I don't really know what I'm doing in the game. laugh

Hello my southern neighbor.  You are on the news here in Sacramento, California.  Hope the experts can get it under control shortly.

...just saw the laest story about this on the national news a short while ago.  It like sounds pretty bad situation as either the tank will cause a spill or it could explode.  Hope they give ample warning in either case.

I hope you have a Go Bag ready and are packed up. I have been watching the news and I dread to think how clogged the roads will get if the word goes out to evac immediately. While I was in the military, one of my secondary fields was disaster prepardedness and this is a nightmare scenario. If you can, I would evac now and go upwind from the site. And make sure to take all important papers, pets, clothing, meds. ...

Also keep an eye out for neighbors who are elderly or handicapped and especially without transportation.

Regardless, listen to local emergency officials before me of course.

Complaint: I forgot how slow HHDs are. Scavaged one out of my drawer of HHDs, just a little 2 TB drive. Install on my old Computer with a Z690 and 128 GB of memory, i9-12900. It's like I built a monster only to tame it at the inchworm speed of the HHD. SSD prices are out of this world right now.

I have a drawer full of SSDs but they are mostly smaller sized ones, hence them being in a drawer. If only there were 30+ SATA ports on mobos.

I've got a collection of HDDs scavenged from old euthanized computers squirreled away in one of my boxes.  Some of them as small as 80GB, but several 500GB and one or two 1TB drives.  The 80s are twenty year old spares for my old XP machines, the 500s are available for a bit of extra internal storage, or data isolation if needed in my newer machines, and the 1000s are spares for system backup schemes.  They are a mix of PATA and SATA connectivities  I also have a couple of extra PATA and SATA driver boards if necessary.  I even keep HDDs in my newer machines.  I use them for storing backups.  Some internal, some external.  Don't really need the speed because backup happens in the background during slow times while I'm watching TV or sleeping.  But of course my new machines all have SSDs as the System drive, and usually another large (1 or 2 TB) SSD drive for retrieval of frequently needed data, and an HDD for storing huge (>1GB), temporary or frequently rewritten files (don't want to wear out the SSDs too quickly).  SSDs are nice and zippy but I still don't trust them for long term on-shelf storage.

And "yes", I bitch loudly when I encounter a machine with an HDD used for a System drive.  It's like trying to row across a lake of molasses.frown  Oh, how easily we become spoiled.indecision

I still have some IDE drives somewhere, salvaged from some Shuttle PCs and a server I bought many moons ago (think Windows XP release year) when I ran a business out of my spare room and space was a premium. I think they are all in the 20GB-40Gb range.

A few years ago I cleaned house and threw away any of my PC stuff that was pre-2000.  I don't even have a "boob tube" display anymore.  Sometimes the geek in me regrets it, but then I remember that I live in a closet, not a warehouse.indecision

I've kept ancient mobos, etc. I had a plan to embed them in a tabletop and resin over them, maybe with some LED lights in as well.

I probably shouldn't admit to the number of Sony Playstation consoles I have in my collection.....

Non-complaint:  I'm giving some consideration to trying to attend the Lucy/Desi celebrations in Jamestown, NY (my local city) this year.  Jerry Seinfeld will be one of the main guests this year.

Complaint:  Lunchtime excitement:  After freaking out this morning after weighing myself and having again gone up, I thought I'd have a small lunch today.  I prepared a nice big salad in a bowl, and put a couple of heaping teaspoons of baked beans into a 4 ounce desert cup.  I covered the beans with a small paper plate, and a potholder to hold in any beans that might burst when heated in the microwave.  I set the microwave for 30 seconds, then took my salad into my TV chair and sat down to grab a few bites before the bean were done.  BOOM!  I must have had a very angry bean in the cup because when I went to check on the f'n explosion in my kitchen I found the inside of the microwave painted brown, and rabbit turd like remains in the microwave corners and under the rotating plate.  Fully 1/3 of the cup of beans had been ejected, past the paper plate and heavy potholder.frown

I tried sticky traps for little furries, once.  But after you hear their paniced screeches for an hour I decided a quick "SNAP" was more humane and relieves me of personally dispatching the critter.   I have an overgrown garden plot that conveniently hides the corpse and feeds the bugs too.

Use peanut butter. They can't get that off without licking.

LG I've had no luck with snap traps ,I haven't had this issue in a couple of years (that I know of) but I use to have a dedicated bucket to drown the ones stuck cause I didn't want to leave them alive stuck to the trap......and yes the squeeking was sad ,and I'd cry every time I had to drown one ...... my kids thought I was nuts ......might be who knows ......also thought about just keeping them in a cage ,but that would just encourage more furry freeloaders ....... maybe I should get a pet snake ....... naaah ....now to get a bigger sticky trap oh and some peanut butter and corn bread  mix  to mix with baking soda ......so much fun ugh!!
