A/C Woes:   OK, I'll believe that the specifications for the A/C are untrustworthy.frown  Careful inspection of the spec sheet(above) from the LG website reveals that they say it's for windows 23" to 36", but say that the product width itself is 23.6".  And they give the product height as 150 inches.  WTF!!!???surprise  An awful lot of squeezin' gonna be necessary.frown

So, I opened the box and actually measured the A/C case.  It is about 23.5 inches wide without the expandable wings installed.  So, assuming that it is not 150" highindecision then it COULD fit in the window if installed without one or both wings and made securely fastened to the window frame with a custom made blank on the sides to fill the holes.  Not gonna be a simple insert/turn-on/cool type of installation.frown  (*Sigh*)

But at least I don't feel guilty about ordering an oversized product.  I was sure that I'd checked the dimensions before ordering it.  They lied, or at least carelessly exaggerated.cheeky

My old power supply was a Pevia 800w. The repair guy put that in in early 2024. He cleaned out all of my dust when I took it to him when everything first started acting up. It looks OK, but smells like burnt electronics. The fan turns. That's about all I can tell without power.

My new one is an MSI 1000w compact size (not a lot of room in the PC).

The repair guy is a paid guy who owns two shops. If my motherboard is fried, I'm probably going to have to go back to him to get a new one, anyway. I'm not confident in my ability to use thermal paste. You know, I literally said to him that I thought my PC repair was going to be something easy like the PSU. And he said, "oh, that's fine. I checked it."

Yes, you had said he owned two shops - sorry, I had forgottten. In that case I think he owes you a major contribution to fixing any resultant issues - it would have fixed your issues and possibly avoided damage if he had offered a PSU switch (ideally on a trial basis so you could swap it back for a partial refund if it wasn't the issue).

Do you think he'll give me a hard time about ordering and installing the new one myself? It's not here yet, so I haven't, but it has been shipped. And we took out the old one already.

I don't know, it depends how reasonable and/or guilty-feeling they are. You'd have had to pay for a new PSU anyway, if they had identiified the issue - it's just anything that the PSU damaged because they hadn't that I would argue they should be covering, or at least making a significant contribution to.

Not sure how far you'll get on that tack - electronic items can just randomly fail after passing a worthiness test. The question I'd be asking is HOW it was tested. Was it LOAD tested?

You know 150" is 12 1/2 feet? Nearly twice the height of a standard external door frame. I reckon you'd notice if it was that big laugh

I'd probably try arguing that the symptoms were certainly suggestive of a PSU issue, and if the PSU then fails catastophically then that strongly suggests that it was the issue from the outset and that it was symptomatic. I agree that asking how it was tested would be sensible.

Good point. I'll try to be convincing if it comes to it. My current motherboard goes for $200-$300 depending where you get it, so hopefully I don't have to replace it.

I got my cat a vet appointment for Thursday. $95 for the exam. Meanwhile she's been licking the bump on her shoulder raw. We're also having my (adult) daughter's two kittens neutered on Wednesday, so it's a busy vet week at my house. Send good vibes.

    Oof. All the good vibes.

    Yes, absolutely.
