...well our flirtation with winter here is over and it's back to partly sunny and more normal temperatures (mid 50s and even low 60s early next week).  No "snowpocalypse" event  which is anything more than 2" here.  There were flurries up in the West Hills, but the ground was too warm for anything to stick. Also no dreaded freezing rain which we often get afterwards. .Rain was more significant this time around, but still need more snow in the mountains for summer..

    Non-complaints:

    1. Cue the Hallelujah Chorus! The plumber is starting work Saturday! It will probably be under $500 even though our plumbing is a MESS and the water heater is so badly in need of replacement I imagine it's the appliance version of a zombie.

    2. Son drew an adorable cartoon of Bear the Lab. In our previous house, Bear would sit on the couch with his head nearly vertical so he could watch anyone who walked behind it to/from the front door. Son, unlike Mom, doesn't need DS.

Would love to see adorable cartoon if you/he are willing to share. :)

    Yay for plumbing!

  • Spring is coming.

We have a (single) Lawn Daisy out.

Oh, and about 300 Daffodils, same number of crocusses, winter aconites and snow bells (may be the wrong name, like snowdrops only 3-4x the size, about the size of bluebells). We can also hear a Skylark singing when in the garden. No frogs croaking yet.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • @SilverGirl Son said I could share the Bear cartoon. He describes it as a "doodle."

@carrie58 I am about to go back in for a revision of my 2022 lower abdominal surgery in a few months. A mesh has worn out and I have been losing blood. If I had one thing I wish someone had warned me of, it was to do kegel exercises before the surgery and have supplies laid in for after. My hospital also requires I have someone escort me to and from the hospital and to have someone around to care for me days after. I am the driver of my household, so I am going to schedule a taxi and my flatmate is taking a week's holiday.

They found some pre-cancerous cells on the tissue they had removed in 2022, so with a family history of deaths from cancer, I also have to do a lot of screenings: Breast, Lungs, Colon, ... as well as keeping an eye on my heart. But I don't smoke, drink alcohol or do drugs. Which helps.

I am glad your gyn caught this because you are a special person to everyone here. I have enjoyed your contributions very much. My prayers will be with you.

To everyone else, please do get cancer/heart screenings. Especially if these issues run in your immediate family.

@miladyderyni_173d399f47 I love that pupper! Thank you for sharing!

@carrie58 Yikes... I'm glad your gyno caught it, and that it's still in "we can do something about it" stage. Definitely with you in the whole wishing they'd just get rid of themselves. There really ought to be an eject button. Thank you for getting checked

@memcneil Good luck with your surgery. And thank you for keeping up on it as well.

@richardandtracy I'm celebrating your flowers and birdsong. We're a long way off of either (well, except crows) but maybe that's good because the Bunny delivers the kids' spring baskets when the first flowers poke through, and I am soooo not ready. (Although these days I do have a bit more grace because Teen Kiddo knows that Bunny = Mom, but just likes the tradition of it all, and Little Dude doesn't really have a concept of time or mythical giftbringers like the Bunny, Santa, or Tooth Fairy.)

Complaint:  Receiving wrong product:  Last fall I lost my beloved deerskin driving gloves.  (Stupid me, missed the inner pocket of my coat and the gloves fell out somewhere.)sad  I had had them (or exact replacements) for decades, even after I'd sold my motorcycle in the early 2000s.  Simple, western style, undecorated, unlined, soft, supple, tight, masculinely sexy, deerskin gloves.heart  A nostalgic  reminder of my leatherman days, (*sigh*) and perfect for cool days even for an old man.yes   I'd always found a new pair, when needed, at major gay leather outlets in big cities.  But now since I no longer travel to big city leather shops, I went looking on the Internet.  Everything I could find was either fancied up or sculpted, or cinched, or poorly made until I stumbled into the "Hot Leather" website, and there they were (Image 1 below).  Yay!smiley  Unfortunately, they were out of stock, so I communicated, via email, with the distributors about when they would be available again.  "February" I was told.  OK, so I dutifully waited and finally they appeared in the on-line catalog again, and I ordered them.  Coughed up the inflated price, plus tax and exorbitant shipping, and impatiently waited almost two weeks for them to be delivered.  But when they arrived two days ago, they were the wrong gloves.surprise  They'd sent to me a pair of deerskin gauntlets, lined winter gloves instead of the unlined fall/spring gloves that I so desired.  Sigh!frown  OK, so the next step was to attempt to return them.  The mechanism in the catalog got convoluted and tiresome, and I made a mistake and discovered that I'd ordered them in the wrong size.blush  No problem, I hadn't finalized the order yet so just go back a page and change the size, right?  Nope, the refund mechanism had locked me into the checkout process and I couldn't go back and when I tried to start over, they had kept all my previous information and plopped me right back where I had been.  Grrr...angry  So, I tried the human approach and contacted the distributors again by email.  After another two or three days delay, I finally got a reply.  The refund order had been approved and they would send the proper gloves, AFTER I returned the gloves that I had received, at my expense.  Either that or they'd charge me another $25 to arrange to have them picked up.no  Nope, ah-ain't-a-gonna do that.cheeky  So, now I need to print out shipping labels, get to a post office, buy a box, pay the $10 or $12 for shipping via US post, wait another week or two for two way deliveries. (*sigh*)

The Convolutions:  Fortunately, I had a mini-adventure planned for yesterday for a doctor appointment, lunch, and grocery, and I was going to be near a post office near the grocery.  Cool!  So, on the morning, I got up, got mostly ready for the bus, and just like a few days earlier, had another #%@&$%#@ nose bleed, just 15 minutes before the bus was scheduled to come.  I sat quietly with a wet cloth pressed tightly on my nose for 12 minutes, hoped it would be long enough, carefully finished dressing, rushed slowly out to the mailbox to mail my rent check and meet the bus.  The bus came, and the first thing the bus driver said to me was: "You weren't on my schedule this morning."surprise  He picked me up and called the dispatcher to report the error.  This is the fourth time in four months that the bus dispatcher has screwed up my pick-up appointment.  I would have missed the bus and my doctor appointment if I hadn't serendipitously had to mail my rent check that day.  (*Whew*)

The Doctor Appointment:  Doctor appointment went OK, except that I was periodically dabbing up pink nose juice.  I got the doctor (a general practitioner) to look into the issue and he said:  "Yep, I see your problem, and it looks like it's going to burst again soon, but there's nothing I can do here, you need to see an otolyrangologist".  (Thanks doc!frown)   I got an Uber and headed to the hole-in-the-wall beanery in the decrepit mini-mall for lunch.  Had a meal that couldn't be beat,  Toddled to the end of the mini-mall to the Chinese takeout and picked up a Szechuan Chicken combo with fried rice & egg roll.  But having been dabbing up pink nose juice all morning and getting a warning from the doctor, I then decided that I probably shouldn't risk a full flow nose bleed in the grocery.  So, I just called an Uber to take me home with my Chinese takeout, bypassing the grocery AND the post office.  Five minutes after I got home, my nose burst forth again. (*sigh*)  But at least I was home and prepared for the situation.

Non-complaint:  Now, back to my gloves.  This morning I checked the Hot Leather website again and now the gloves that I want are again  "OUT OF STOCK"frown  Maybe they set aside a pair for me, but I doubt it, I just think they're a bit confused over there, and are not really going to resolve my problem as I would wish.  So, I looked into the gloves that I did receive (image #2 below) and saw that they are considerably more expensive than the gloves I'd ordered.  I admit, they are really nice gauntlets, and I do have a bit of a glove fetish, so I've decided to keep them.  It simplifies the whole situation.  I'll try for the spring/fall gloves again some other time.  I'm just happy, that I'm making the distributor suffer for their carelessness to the tune of $40 dollars.devil

Complaints: 1. I had a mild migraine Friday, but meds worked. 2. Bear barked at the plumbers 90% of the several hours they were here - resulting in a regular headache. I am so tattling to Son.

I rejoice in you plumbing being restored! And as a chronic sufferer of extreme migraines (strobing lights, air pressure are two major causes) I sympathize with you. Meds are great when they work. I have four different meds for it, two to prevent, two to deal with the attacks.

Complaint:  I still need to get to a grocery.  There is a grocery store here in my little town, just two blocks away, uphill.  But the farenheits are below freezing again, my ankles & knees are bitching at me, and I'm leary of the dry cold air complicating my nose issues.  It snowed again last night.  Porch needs sweeping again, but that activity has unleashed my nose 3 out of the last four times I've done it.frown  Nose seems on the mend again, no diluted pink juice this morning, but I'm being cautious still.

Non-complaint:  Yeah, I need milk, eggs, salad greens, salad dressing, fresh fruit, cottage cheese, ketchup, and bread, but I won't starve. I have lots of canned soup, several frozen pounds of hamburg, ham and chicken.  Along with a couple of frozen Stouffer's fish w/ mac & cheese dinners, a half dozen cans of frozen orange juice, a couple of Stouffer's frozen lasagna (Mmm, lasagna)  and I still have a half dozen quart sized freeze-tainers of frozen homemade chili-mac.heart In addition to cabinets full of canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned tuna, canned salmon, canned mushrooms(non funky fungi), canned chili, canned Spam and several cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew.yes  But man does not live by canned or freezables alone.  (Nor does he behold the face of the Gorgon and live. at 3:10)

    @LeatherGryphon

What you describe is why I think grocery delivery service was invented for. I take it that it is not available at a reasonable price in your area?

(I have never used it here (Denver) but I would have when I had shingles in Lompoc back in 2014 if it had been available then.)

Yeah, it's a good idea, and I've checked a couple of delivery service options, but that type of service is not available out here in the boondocks.  I'm actually quite lucky that I have a once a day bus service into the city, and am able to get an Uber to take me home from the city(I tip well to keep 'em interested in going so far out of their just barely profitible areas).  But getting one to take me to the city is iffy.sad

For an Uber driver to come to my area means they will most certainly NOT have a passenger for one half of the trip out into the country.  I feel for the Uber drivers, I've heard many stories from them about their costs and miniscule income.  They don't even get their entire tip.  They have to hustle all day long.  I have thought about the "Uber Eats" service for restaurant delivery, but even if I could afford the cost, the service via the Uber app is not offered in this area.indecision  There are people near me that I could call to drive me to the local grocery, but I reserve that action for times when it's really needed.  There was a period of time when I had people helping me greatly, but I don't want to fall back into that situation again.  The guilt is overwhelming.  Which is why I keep a well stocked pantry of canned & frozen foods, for the dark days of Winter.  I need to manage my own situation until I can't.  It's not impossible, yet.  So I just keep mock-kvetching into the void to keep my spirits up.devil  Yet also realizing full well, that there are people in worse situations.broken heart

I understand. When we had one of our two snowfalls that accumulated here, I decided to walk to the store with my walking stick and look for a spice that I could slip into my winter coat's pocket. It is not a terrible walk in the sun, but by the time I got there I was freezing and still had to walk home. And I didn't find the spice I needed. But I did get about 1.5 miles in on ice, snow and slush. By the afternoon, it was all gone.

One nice thing was the view of Cherry Creek with snow and ice on the rocks and water. It had been showing the dry creek bed before that storm hit.

Win dir stat saved the day.  I was wondering why my computer was battling with limited storage so much.  I used win Dior stat to find some games were installed when I had that Xbox subscription.  I had it canceled be wise of budgeting reasons.  I forgot to uninstall them, so they were taking up space. They were deadweight as icould not play them.

I have finished stocking up on beef, but I only have 3 chicken breasts.  Hopefully they won't be thrown out.

Is Zeus from Render Hub ready for DS?  I am thinking of using Zeus for a black furry character named Tara.  She has long fur and is based on the furry friend my Nana and Bompa had.
