Absolutely fantastic render. The lighting, the shaders. I want to do stuff this good. Is that a custom face morph done in some other tool? Really good.

Thanks all, somethimes you get lucky, LOL

Gr00vus, the figure is from Batman Arkham Knight, posed in 3DSMax, then exported to DS, subdivided and rendered in Lux.

thank you Joe Quick for the M4 Morph and Ice Slide

Wow, that's a long pipeline. One I'll probably never have access to - so I don't feel so bad I can't come anywhere near those types of results with studio and dial twiddling. laughGreat work!

Thanks! It's available at ShareCG, all I did was work with iray shaders and render settings.

I used the Rigged Water prop from the store for the ice coming from his hand.

Really isn't that long of a pipeline, I do it all the time. Half of what I render in DS comes from non DAZ, outside sources, so I am used to it. Many of these characters can be posed in other, less expensive/free apps like Blender.

    Here's another non DAZ figure

Thanks! DS to Luxrender via Reality

  • does any one know of any thigh boots that would be suitable for princess character from Battle of the Planets?ive looked everywhere but all boots above shins seem to be stiletto type or have massive stupid soles, the closest boots i can find for heels etc is the old v4 valkyrie boots, but i need them higher.. think im going to end up having to make them from scratch arrgh

Love the lighting on that- the wall looks SO real on the right side, the texture showing up is amazing! And there's the right amount on the character so the attention is perfectly held there. The gradient from left to right is neat.  Well done!

The boots/belt for the Genesis Supersuit work well and usually autofit fairly decently: http://www.daz3d.com/belt-for-supersuit

I usually use the male boots for both females and males.

Thanks! the wall is a high res texture from CGTextures applied to a simple plane and then I made a normal map for it.

  • Hey FSMCDesigns, any chance you'd release the batgirl outfit?  or at least do a tutorial on how to convert it?

  • Gr00vusGr00vus Posts: 372

That's another beautiful render. I hope it's o.k. to ask here - have you tried Studio's Iray, and if so, how do you feel about it compared to Luxreder/Reality? I'm considering trying out Reality myself so it would be good to get feedbackfrom someone who's familiar with it. Also, why do you prefer posing in another tool - because the models you use don't "work" in Studio?

It's not an outfit persay, but a whole figure from the Batman Arkham Knight game DLC. I am a gamer also and extract meshes from some games for my own use and like seeing how they look in more professional lighting solutions. Search batgirl at deviant art and you'll probably find a copy of it.

No problem, yes, I have tried Iray and like it, but my vid card is not as great as I need for Iray and luxrender works great with my CPU rendering. i also know my way around reality and Luxrender, so setting up a scene, adjusting materials and lighting a scene are rather easy for me compared to how all that is done with Iray. Depending on your system, Iray is usually a little faster than luxrender, but I am used to it.

Posing in another app, hmm, well I am a modeler and have worked with lots of modeling apps, max, maya, Lightwave, Silo, Rhino, Modo, Milkshape, etc and the one thing DS does not play well with other apps is rigging (skeleton/Bones) which allows you to pose a figure. DS has a very proprietary rigging system so the main way to move objects in DS is you use a model with DS style rigging (DAZ figures). Whereas, most modeling apps will let you import a .FBX rigged figure and you will be able to pose them, but not in DS (carrara works well though). Since most games will export in .FBX format, it's usually easier to pose the scene in another app and then import into DS as a .OBJ and then render in luxrender. I use Max mostly and it has a great renderer, but setting up the lighting and materials is a HUGE PITA compared to DS and reality. Hope that helps

  • Thanks for the link adriantullberg ive pretty much done most of the outfit it was just the boots i was after, they look a bit "wobbly" on the legs lol looks like im going to have to plow on and make my own, many thanks for the effort though, will post some pics when complete :-)

Very nice !!! If I could ever figure out rigging I would have done the same, kudos! Too bad you can't legally share it, you know everyone is going to want it now, LOL.

I'm just starting to try some superhero work. This is the Ultra Catsuit with a shiny leather texture, paired with the Exnem dual holsters. I want to sub out the pistols for something more exotic, and I'll have to eventually research how to change an existing prop for that. Failing that, customize a prop and go look up how to save that as a seperate new object.

My biggest problem so far has been finding a mask that can fit close to the face and conform to expressions. The Ultra Cowl from the catsuit does that better than anything else I've found so far, but it still wigs out when an expression involves anything with the foreheard or some eyebrow changes. So far, I've found nothing else that works with Gen2.

Have you considered using a geo-shell of your main figure and making your own mask texture map and transparency map? You're guaranteed it will conform if you do that.

  • What's a geo-shell? And how do you make one?

Well, that would be the next step, to simply make my own masks. I haven't done anything like that yet, and I don't have photoshop or other things to let me make things like bump maps and such. At some point I might try to tackle this, though.

A geo-shell, if I remember correctly, is a blank-slate figure that duplicates the figure you want to use? I've seen the suggestion before in other discussions.

  • Ok. Basically what I thought, but I still have no clue how to create one.
