@FrankTheTank: Many thanks for your new pin - up render! Again the skin material looks marvelous, Alani I would never have recognized, in my eyes your style makes your characters look almost abstract, very interesting - is there a name for this art style?
Thanks a lot for adding the products you used in your last post! Still, I emphasize again to everybody, that to do this is a very generous act, but not one expected, this shall be fun, not work, only do it if you want to do it - no pressure at all!

Nice portrait, with good lighting. I like.
For info- I've gone back to my train image & put in the product links. I think almost everything apart from the characters were freebies (if not now, when I got them), which is rather nice. I have got to go back to find out how to do animations so I can at least do an animated dForce drape. I tried to put Naida in a dress and then couldn't drape the dress over the chair. Every time I tried to do an animation it re-inforced how ignorant I am about how to move a chair and apply a beginning and end pose to the character. Just couldn't get the animation key frames to stick. Frustrating.
Regards,
Richard
Richard, if it helps, I have been noticing that the simulation time line has become tricky to work with and at times a real pain. It doesn't seem to matter which computer I am on.
@richardandtracy: Many thanks, Richard! Very generous of you to post all the products, but please be careful with recovery - my doctor once told me that when recovering from covid there is a two week phase with a hightened stroke risk, so patients should try to get through that phase as relaxed as possible.
With dforce I am not very knowledgeable unfortunately, so maybe somebody else has an idea.
My dear @richardandtracy, you might find RGcincy to be your man of the hour with regards to all sorts of tricks in using the animation feature of DAZ Studio and dynamic objects. He started by doing small tutorials on his thread and then branched out to doing commerical stuff. His commerical turtorials are currently on sale. I think he does a good job of showing and describing how to do things on his thread. Just like a good engineer should.
His thread: How to Use dForce: Creating a Blanket, Draping Clothes on Furniture, and Much More [Commercial] - Daz 3D Forums
His commerical tutorials: dForce Complete : Tutorial Bundle | Daz 3D
The timeline should autokey when you do a change, but sometimes it doesn't work. Why I don't know. In these cases I will suggest to click Create key.

@DollyGirl,
I'm not really having a problem with dForce, so much as setting up the animation that will allow the dForce timeline to work. I need to move the chair into position as the character sits. If I don't, with the character starting in a memorised position the skirt intersects with the chair & blows up as the character's legs move from standing into sitting positions. I just don't have enough experience with the timeline function.
I have the RGincy thread bookmarked and have done so for years, very useful. I shall not be going for the videos, I'm afraid. I am strongly text based when it comes to learning, and can't really learn anything from video. I do feel video (particularly YouTube) is an extremely low density learning medium. Huge amounts of time & bytes for a very low level (if any) of information transfer.
Regards,
Richard
Thanks for the heads up.
One of the problems I was having was that I posed the character and frame 1 (not expecting a timeline to be needed), moved to frame 30, tried to keyframe everything, went to frame 1, zeroed the figure. And found the entire timeline was now the zeroed figure. Same with the chair coming behind the character's knees. I know it's likely to be my inexperience, but it was ... very... irritating.
Regards,
Richard
Richard, I may be doing it wrong, but if I have a character interacting with an object, like a chair, I have ticked the pose set at frame 30 (or whatever the outfit requires) and then I move backward down the timeline looking for places where the object interfers with the character and moves the object further back and continue to move it back. But if the floor plane is there, I also check to see if the feet interact with it or each other. Or stray fingers stick into something. There are just a whole lot of things that can make an outfit go 'POOF'! I also have to deal with my eyesight just not seeing it the first time, or the second... Arms that go through a body are a really big bummer for me. I have to clear that pose out and find another one.
As a pose artist I am pretty sure you know of all the dangerous areas to watch out for.
Mary
Mary, truth is I rarely do any animation (this is my third? attempt since returning to DS in 2019), and the skirt I was using just wouldn't co-operate. It's also possible I was suffering Covid mind-fog at the time, but I don't think that was a large part of it.
Regards,
Richard
I can relate to brain fog. I may have been cleared of Covid, the Flu A & B, RSV, and even West Nile Virus (even with traces of it!) I am still getting over a virus of unknown type and brain fog lives with me. I sit and stare at a screen trying to remember what I am trying to do. And I am exhausted, sneezing, headaches that happen as spears of sharp pain, and my glasses just don't seem to be focused right. Add to that, I just got updated flu and Covid shots last week.
At least I am retired. I feel for you and anyone else who gets this stuff who has to bring home a paycheck. Especially hourly workers who have no income without working and no medical care.
The skirt, well, I have tried a lot of 'so-called' dForce outfits and found they are totally not dForce friendly, even with a simple standing pose. They seem to shred, kink, knot and totally drive me bonkers. I generally end up changing the outfit completely. I finish the render but I am left with a bad taste in my mouth. I can't pin down the problem to one PA's outfits, poses, characters, they seem random. Very discouraging.
Regardless, please, take care of yourself and your family. My son went through a similar situation during the Covid lock down, when one of his kids got it, shared it to the other two, then his wife who has an autoimmune disease and got cancer during Covid, and he was working from home and caring for all of them and then he came down and still had to work.
I got the Antoinette dress, as a freebi.
@felis: Wow, great textures and color combination! Also like the poses and the idea to use it as a show girl costume - to me it felt more like a sweet, rural dress - very well done, many thanks!
Can't have an Appreciation thread fall to the second page. So here is a Gen 2 Female render that I did for the freebie contest in 2019.
April Showers Bring...... The Knights
Clicking on the image will take you to the freebie list for the image. G2F is wearing the Morphing Fantasy Dress for G2F.
@DollyGirl: Many thanks, what a beautiful fairy tale like render, and so much going on there! And it got the second price in the competition - very impressive! That punk mushroom with piercing in the foreground is truly hilarious!
For those interested: some freebies missing can be found at renderosity or deviantart, btw.
Again, thank you, that render must have been a lot of work!
@mding: Your welcome and thank you. I do obsess over details. I found the knights on a web site in the wayback machine. 2003 was when the work was done, Cute is cute for a very long time.
@DollyGirl: 2003 - 10 years before genesis 2 was released - amazing!
Here is G2F as AprilYSH's Calais and DAZ Dragon 3
@DollyGirl: Oh, that is such sweet posing and expression
And I love the nature vignette you created - just beautiful, that render, many thanks!

I started fiddling with Naida, experimenting with freebie G2F clothing from Renderosity, and then had an idea having seen Naida in scruffy clothing. So, after searching online for (and finding) gold panning sluices, I modelled one, got Alessa and Naida to work together getting mucko to the sluice to be separated into gold and sludge being washed away in the stream.
They have a little wall across their stream, tools and the wall from the archaeological dig set, the landscape is UltraScenery Pacific Northwest with rocks, there are two water levels, one clear, the other dirty. The sluice is one I modelled up today. Naida's clothing is free from Beat578 on Rendo (largely good, but some textures with full drive path references that get lost), Wilmap clothes on Alessa (right figure in water). Think that's it.
Regards,
Richard
@richardandtracy: Wow, Richard, that is such a cool working scene (got to have that idea!). As to be expected from you the posing is very convincing, two women, no talking, just working hard together in the morning (?), a somewhat quiet, focused atmosphere - love it, thank you very much, also for the great link to the g2 freebies!
The ladies were talking so seriously on the train in an earlier image that they had to be coming up with a plan.. Why not be planning on staking their own claim?
My great grandfather contracted gold fever after growing up mining copper in Cornwall (UK) and went all round the world after it, ending up as an underground manager ('Mine Captain') in a Johannesburg gold mine at the end of the Boer War and contracting Silicosis of the Lungs.
Thanks for the comments about the poses. I am happy with Naida's pose, but less so with Alessa's. It seems even harder getting the hands right with G2 than G8, particularly when the pose you want is an angled rather than straight grip. Very difficult. I ended up saying 'good enough ' rather than feeling happy. May come back to the pose one day.
Regards,
Richard.
@richardandtracy: That seems to be a terrible health condition, which your grandpa had to endure in the end. But I am sure, he had a very "adventurous" life. I just hope he had also some success of any kind, and didn't get bitter in the end, life really can be dangerous place in that respect.
With posing, I believe too much perfection with g2 may take up too much time. In my eyes it really looks great!
The thread was falling down.
I thought I might have got something in the new freebies, but no.
So I had to dig up some stuff I already had.
Very nice render, what a beautiful, happy moment!
I am very sorry, atm RL hits me at different parts, not anything grave like i am dying or sth, but still enough so that I can't really focus on this hobby other than buy things or read in the forums. But with a bit of luck in a couple of days it should be ok again, many thanks @felis for still contributing!
