You're welcome. But what I wrote applies to the Legacy bundle...
If you have the original "Them Bones" product, I suspect you'll have less trouble in making it work properly :-)
I'm trying to use Studio more to take advantage of some of its features, specifically dForce. I purchased a dForce dress (1940sDress for G8F from Renderocity. I brought it into Studio and converted it to Blended Weights then imported it into Carrara. It works well, but I'd like to use dForce to drape it to look more natural. In Studio I used dForce and got the look I wanted. I used the dForce2Morph script to convert the simulation to a morph. It works well in Studio and you can see the new morph. Unfortunately, when I export the new dress (with my morph) as a scene subset or a wearablethen import it into Carrara, the morph isn't there. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
what I would try is exporting the morphed mesh from DS as well as the original mesh both in OBJ format for DS ( in base reolution ).. then I would import the original mesh and then create the morph by importing the morphed mesh.. then I would transfer the bones from the original DS mesh to the new mesh and then save that out. This usually works for me when I want DS morphs that don't work in Carrara.
I've tried importing morphs that way before and they didn't work for me. I know I was doing something wrong. Do you know of a tutorial that I can try?
Wendy,
I'm really glad to hear that it works for you. It gives me hope. One thing that I haven't run to ground is where the morph is stored. I have my runtimes organized by character, G3, G8, G9... the author's video indicates that they default to the MyDaz... runtime. I haven't been able to confirm that. Also, I'm not running cms. Could that be an issue?
Thanks for the help. I figured it out. It was saving the morphs to the wrong folder. I'm on a Mac running the windows version of Carrara in an emulator. That could be the issue, but I doubt it. The original file was in MacintoshHD\Users\Shared\Genesis 8... dForcetoMorph put the morphs in MacintoshHD\Users\Brian\Genesis 8.. I just moved the .dsf file to the correct directory and it worked! This is going to be a very useful product.
Problem with the rigging not posing when loaded into Carrara - solved by converting to Blended Weight in DAZ Studio.
Next problem - clothing not playing the game when the Semi-realistic morph is used.
1. Tried just using the Autofit with the clone - not working on Semi-realistic morph in Carrara
2. Loaded the clothing onto the Webboid in DAZ Studio, converted to Blended Weight and saved as a Scene Subset, not working on Semi-realistic morph in Carrara
3. With the loaded blended weight clothing on the Webboid in DAZ Studio, applied the Semi Realistic morph in DAZ Studio, saved as a scene subset, not working on Semi-realistic morph in Carrara
It might be working in Daz Studio, but not in Carrara, if within Daz Studio the clothing is using the Smoothing Modifier
(with item selected in Scene pane > General > Mesh Smoothing)
If there is Not as Mesh Smoothing listing under General, then that's not the problem - but it likely is.
I really Wish that Carrara had that same modifier - maybe it does and I don't know about it? In DS, it works So Well for So Many Things. And many things - especially tight-fitting clothing (and clothin in general, for that matter) rely upon it.
The only possible solution for this for Carrara that I can think of is to reshape the mesh to fit the Semi-Realistic morph, export that as an OBJ. The import that into the original item in DS using Morph Loader Pro as a new morph. We'd likely have to dial it ourselves in Carrara manually, but it should would - albeit not neccesarily with all poses.
Another option if you have VWD Cloth and Hair with the Carrara plugin:
At around 3:35 in this video I start talking about using VWD for the J-Suit. When I do, I mention that "I've already converted this one to a Prop". No need to do that. We can just leave it a conforming item.
The reason I'm referencing this dragged-out, babbly video is so that you can see the collision distance and friction settings I'm using, and then see how I Glue the item to the figure.
Notice that the j-suit is much smaller that the figure - poke-through everywhere. For this, I used morphs to do that on purpose to make the suit skin-tight.
At around 7:30 I show how I'm adding the parts of the garment that should retain their shape and not flow with simulation by adding their material zones to the Rigid group.
Keep in mind that, in Carrara (as well as DS) we can always assign New Material Zones if we need them for purposes like this
At around 10:00 I demonstrate using clothing that is supposed to be conforming, but instead of conforming it I just only use Scaling to get it close, then use VWD Cloth & Hair v2 to make it fit and follow the animation.
Not doing animations? Even faster because you'd only need to go from zero pose to your pose and then perhaps a bit of 'relax' time afterwards
Another tip for Premier members and/or folks who have Mesh Grabber:
In Daz Studio we can use Mesh Grabber or Studio Premier's Geometry Scultor (Mesh Grabber on Steroids) to reshape directly while the figure is wearing the item (or not) and then save the results as a morph directly from Mesh Grabber or Geometry Sculptor. Then save that as a new garment to retain those new morphs.
I did this all the time in Carrara, however, without Mesh Grabber. I just couldn't reuse the results in anything other than Carrara - which was fine for me. I'd just save the new garment as a CAR file in my browser.
We can make morphs in Carrara - but I often just left it as the new shape.
hell, I even got VWD on my Win7 with only 8GB RAM to work on the skirt
(not the braids sadly but that was pushing it )
and my wifi network let me send it back to my Win10 for rendering which is fortunate as cannot use Google Drive anymore as my Browsers won't work on Win7
Opera does but was too lazy to sign into Google on it
one of a series, I mostly render png series of people even if I add them as planes to Carrara scenes later
I was in the middle of making a fun new video working in Carrara, but no VWD kind of puts a horrible twist on how I work in Carrara, unfortunately. So I had to put the video on hold for now while I create a whole new workflow

Thank you for the explanation. I own 'Them Bones.' I am sure I will refer to your notes. Much appreciated.

I have used it often in Carrara so no idea why it's not working for you
Thanks for answering.
Stezza,

well PostrgreSQL will not run at all on my WIN10 so no smart content
CMS runs AFAIK but somewhat crippled as a result
it saves them under Actor not morphloader and in the original data folder not your name
for example my G1 MFD walk cycle morphs are all in
I:\My DAZ 3D Library\Data\Ravenhair\GenesisMFD\GenMFD\Morphs\Ravenhair\GenesisMFD
also unfit it before running the script (or exporting an obj) or it will include the positions and shape of the figure as well as the drape

Hi guys'n'girls,
And especially to the NoName Doll fans: There is a minor update for the clothes I wasn't aware of:

Thanks Dart - was wondering if the obj morph from Carrara might be the sloution. Will be interested in what Wendy thinks !!!

https://www.daz3d.com/vidal-braids-for-genesis-2-female-s
Vidal braids locks Carrara up fitting to Genesis 2 female
doesn't even go into not responding, just becomes unclickable with weird mouse pointer variations
UPDATE
10 hours later it works, not sure how well will reload
the size of the save after running Alberto's Morph Eraser on everything including that hair says a lot
hell, I even got VWD on my Win7 with only 8GB RAM to work on the skirt
(not the braids sadly but that was pushing it
)

Vwd still works?
only on my Win7 PC
Carrara throws an error if I add the bridge extension to it on Win10
I believe VWD itself works
Philemo is MIA so cannot solve it sadly
Yeah... VWD still works in DS (although some claim otherwise - I use it every day) but not in my wonderful Cararra :(
I was in the middle of making a fun new video working in Carrara, but no VWD kind of puts a horrible twist on how I work in Carrara, unfortunately. So I had to put the video on hold for now while I create a whole new workflow
I put off buying VWD after the reports of it not working. Dart, I will be watching out for your new workflow !!!
the thing is it used to work on Win10 but Microsoft updates ended that years ago
I wish I knew how to fix it
UPDATE
I can load the Carrara Beta with it added to extensions and am running it but will see if it crashes sending to Carrara
well it didn't, it just never loaded after importing and VWD closed
so it might be an extension clash, didn't show that error though, a quite different one
or it could be python 2.7
I updated that
am frustrated
it stops responding or simulating so no closer other than the Carrara beta opening and loading it
I wanted to use Jonstark's Afro braid hair but if I try adding it to my scene I get a nil pointer error
it loads fine in an empty scene, I wanted to change the hotpoint and parent it to G2F head as it doesn't fit her (has it's own armature)
Have you tried copy and paste from one scene to the other?
you can have more than one scene file open in Carrara
no, not copy/paste I admit,
I have tried import, load from browser, drag into scene from browser to scene not anything selected, drag onto head etc
right now am rendering her with a DAZ polygon hair as gave up
can try later
just a quick look at some of the VWD simulations
(all done on Win7 rendered on Win10 using Octane)
sadly it will not copy RuudL, because it is a figure not a prop
I have managed to find a workround though
moving the hotpoint on the actor saved to the browser without the rig and hair
loading that and parenting it to my figure saving and loading the hair separately
