Hey Richard,
it seems like now there is no reduction anymore on V7 Pro bundle. Or is this intentional?
That may have been temporarily knocked out by fixing the morph discounts, in which case it should reset soon, but I will report it in case it's something more.
I'm not really happy with the Daz coming out with Victoria 7/G3F just overnight like this.
As hobbyist on a limited budget, I haven’t changed over to the IRay (Daz Studio 4.8) because I’m not sure that my video card (NVidia GeForce GTX 670) could handle it, I can’t afford to spend roughly $300 new video card & then turn right around & spend at least another $108 at least just to get Victoria 7/G2F going.
I really wished Daz would change their New Generation Bundles (like going from G2 to G3) to include the all of the Morphs that way the users can really enjoy new figure.
Here is my ideally bundle…
(Basic Bundle)
The figure
All 3 Morphs (Face/Body/Expressions)
2 hair styles
Swimwear
A Casual Outfit
And shoes
I’m going to buy Victoria 7/G3F today nope in time maybe when she is 70% off.
Just wrote about the same here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/58050/
I've asked that now.
Auto-adjustments will be made for those who bought before the discounts came in, no need to do anything.
That's progress I'm afraid. Technology moves fast. You get a new phone every year so 2 years between figure generations is something of a record. You can't stand still long in this game now. It's the times we're in and we just have to wear it.
The PA's have probably had this to work on for a little while now, that's how come there was enough content for a Pro bundle already. There's doubtless quite a time lag between something being developed and released, though yeah, maybe not quite so long as there used to be.
CHEERS!
Sorry, DAZ. I will not buy V7. I just bought 2 figures who REALLY are new--The Little Twins. I will stick with the content I already have and enjoy working with it. 3Delight renders great for my needs, so I'm turning down Iray too.
Thanks for solving my cash flow problem.

Maybe *you* get a new phone every year, but some of us..... :-)

Good for them, the discounts will be long over before I'm in a position to buy it all anyway.
CHEERS!

LOL, that was a general 'you'.
Things will settle down soon(ish). Nobody has to drop everything and buy the whole kit and kaboodle this second. You wait, in a few months everyone will be raving about her. We had all this hoo ha when G2 came out.
CHEERS!
I just wish there had been some advanced warning of an upcoming release. I could have held off spending the money I've spent the past week of Gen 2 items and used it for Gen 3 but then I guess that was why there wasn't any prior :-(
Also G3 Evolution-equivalent morphs, which you know are coming.
I'm all in, mostly on account of the facial expressions. It's so hard to make G2FM smile anything like naturally, that I'm hoping that'll be easier in this version. But I'm sad the HD morph wasn't available out of the gate. Maybe getting an even better discount on tomorrow's items is a hint that those things will be out tomorrow, and if we opt into V7 today, it'll take a bit of the financial pain down...
One can hope. :)

The head and body morphs are in the store.
It's very early days yet, I'm sure the PA's will have tricks up their sleeves to make her shine. G2 got updated with every new build of DS so I'm sure that G3 will be the same. We haven't seen HD add-on's for these though I suspect that there won't be as many as the G3 Morphs already have some HD incorporated already.
I'm sure the grade curve will start to go up....
CHEERS!
Actually, it is rare to see significant changes between product releases. Just look at the history of Victoria - from Gen 1 to Gen 4, there were only small improvements made between each generation. None of the changes we saw from Generation to Generation were truly significant or vast improvements, more like refinements of the existing technology. And that's what we're seeing with Genesis. Each new iteration refines the Genesis technology, adding functionality, improving the user experience, and moving the technology forward, towards the next truly significant breakthrough, whatever that may be.
It's an "improvement" (or not) in regards to compatibility with software like Autodesk and Maya. You are now able to import and use the figures "as is" in these applications, rather than having to re-rig and wightmap them again.
As far as I've understood the entire advertisement, this is what the focus is; they are making their figure more compatible with "industry standards".
So, it's "under the hood" rather than the shiney news chassis you seem to wait for....
Which is great if you use those programs but many of us don't. What I'm interested in is how G3 contributes to realistic renders in DAZ. When a product is sold on the basis of enhanced realism it needs to live up to the hype and so far it doesn't in the advertising content and the images rendered in this thread. As a long term Octane user who now uses iRAY it's not too difficult to significantly improve the look of even V4 and Genesis using unbiased rendering but that's not coming across with G3 here atm. Believe me I want to be convinced to invest thousands of pounds in new content now that I've bought nearly every G2 product I want to own but unless G3 is offering much more naturalistic expressions, movement and skins when posed and animated then I'll stick with G2 which still has huge untapped potential. If Redspec releases some G2 skins for iRAY then the slim difference between G2/G3 will be even less noticeable. I'd rather save my money for that right now.
This is exactly my point. It would've given us the chance to budget appropriately for a new Genesis release.
Oh well, I suppose on the upside if new releases in the store start focusing on G3 then I can just work my way through my G2 wishlist instead. Who knows, they might even start hammering out some mega-discounted G2 sales now.
I just wish they would work a bit more on AutoFit because right now it is far from perfect.
Genesis 3 has separatemale and female bases like Genesis 2. But I'm sure that an upgrade to GenX will allow morph transfer between the two genders.
Ok.. I'm not really sure what to think here.
The base G3 essentials character is nice. Good face on her and like someone else said, the eyebrows are better. Another thing I like is that she looks like a "real world" person. She could be a person next door.
Supposedly there is a g2 clone in the starter essentials so that we can at least use our g2 products on the new figure but I have tried it out a bit with shoes and unless the shoes are flat, its a no go. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I tried both auto fitting and then parenting and posing the foot. The results are not great. If I move to using this figure, I will be back in the position of replacing basic footwear for the character. I suspect that this has a lot to do with the fact that there is an extra posing/bend morph in the feet ( metatarsal).
No Iray materials bundled with the female starter essentials is a bad idea. With Iray being the "new shiny" and coming as part and parcel of Daz Studio, I really feel that Iray materials for this would be an appropriate and reasonably expected part of the starter essentials package.
The head body and expression morphs are not offered in a bundle. This is a departure from previous releases and will make adoption of this figure more difficult for the hobbyist market. While I do understand that the hobbyist market may not spend as much money per customer as the professional market, there are rather a lot of us and pricing us out of being able to easily adopt new figures and technology will in the end hurt the bottom line because we just wont be buying. That's not a sound business decision any way you want to look at it.
Not sure if I will be moving to this figure or Genesis 3 just yet.
Turk, as far as DAZ 4.8 goes, 3Delight is still supported and is in fact the default. You have to manually set it to I-ray in render settings if you want to use it. I-ray will work without an NVDIA card, it is just slow. In any case, you don't need to use it. You ought to upgrade, there is no downside to it.
Genesis 3 has separatemale and female bases like Genesis 2. But I'm sure that an upgrade to GenX will allow morph transfer between the two genders.
Yeah, but how long are we going to be waiting on that and can it even be done? From what I am reading, Genesis 3 is different tech and it may take a while for the creator of GenX to come to terms with the changes and implement the utility correctly.

I do not own and do not like mobile phones of any kind, and even if I did, I most certainly would not get a new model more frequently than once every 4 or 5 years (okay, realistically I would be buying a new one every few months due to losing my old one on the street/store, dropping it in the toilet, leaving it outside in sub-freezing weather, or stepping on it after it falls out of my pocket. This is why I gave up on wearing a watch or jewelry in my mid teens) Hell, I only get a new desktop when my old one dies out or is not worth the reformat-- which typically means once every 5-7 years.
3Delight renders great for my needs, so I’m turning down Iray too.
Same here. I have 3Delight, Luxus, and Blendbot. Three render engines is hard enough to keep track of. Besides, someone else made a good point-- I don't know if my comp could handle the Iray-- this is a 2010 model.

You must have a ton of cash to blow on recreation every month to take this thing so positively. The problem is that DAZ and everyone else will be dropping everything to exclusively support Gen3, leaving Gen2 lovers behind.
Just for fun! Loving Genesis 3!
Victoria 7 and Genesis 3???!!! WTH???!! I am barely getting a grasp on Victoria 6 and Genesis 2??!!! OMG!!! :coolhmm:

Hell, it's already happening! Check G2F and G2M only, and the only new products for G2F today are two new hairs designed primarily for G3F! This is even worse than the loss of G1 support!

The main differences are in rigging, though. GenX is at heart a vertex mover so the changes in rigging shouldn't bother it too much. Especially since there's already a gen2f clone
OK, now everything is showing 51% off for PC members which is what I was waiting for. Do I buy it now or wait for a "glitch"?
I've downloaded and installed the free base figure and associated content (thank you, Daz), and have had a bit of a look at it now. I honestly can't see what it offers that could make it worth my spending out all over again on all the aging/growing up/character morphs and the pose builder etc. The figure's eyes have got a bit of a manic quality about them in some lights and she still doesn't smile particularly nicely. I'm sure she can look great with the right lighting, a nice pose, some good clothes and an engaging expression, but you could say exactly the same thing about G2F.
I like the figure more than it's predecessor (mostly because of the shoulder), but not enough to want to spend all that money again on supporting products. The shoulder is a lot better, but that was all wrong in the first place anyway (although it wasn't noticeable in the majority of poses and so won't be now). I seem to remember that the Big Beautiful Females product for G2F (I think it was that one, anyway) had a morph that could combat the dislocated shoulder thing. There must be very little, if anything, you can do with G3F that you can't do with G2F and the odd new tool. The thought of buying the entire toolkit again to support a few new bends puts me in mind of buying new clothes for the Emporer even though no one can see any real gain.

I disagree, the jump from V3 to V4 and then to V5 was much more significant in terms of realism than from V5 to V6 and now V7. It's the law of diminishing returns. But regardless of our difference of opinion the V7 renders so far are not showing much improvement if any at all. Either that's an oversight on the part of DAZ considering we now have iRAY or it's just not possible to get V7 to look much more realistic than V6. If the latter is the case than I can't invest in this new generation.
Genesis X had become new Assassin Creed and FIFA.
When I'd stop quietly laughing at G3 release I might be able to wait for G4 and maybe hope that next Improved Genesis #X would not be just a bland iteration of once amazing concept like V7 is. I just have that feeling even if G4 the isn't in works yet, it will be there quite soon and, considering how generations are sped up, it may take just 1 or 1.5 years instead of 2 this time.
GenX as in the tool that ports morphs from V4 and between Genesis 1 and 2.
Oh come on, let's be fair now. They've been pushing Gen2 stuff out the door all week, how much new content did you expect the day they gear up Gen3? The new products for Gen2 will not drop off until significant numbers of people stop buying new products for Gen2. Hell, there are significant amounts of product still coming out for V4 in some places. The reason for the quick drop off of Gen1 products was the quick move by everybody to Gen2. Whether that happens or not with Gen3 remains to be seen. If people keep buying stuff for Gen2 though, the PA's will keep making products for it.
