V7 looks great, but having to buy new V7-versions of all the items i need to make the characters i want (for instance, an Aiko-based night elf from "World of warcraft") is really getting to be overly expensive, because it comes down to Face morphs, body morphs, the inevitable A7 set, something to make huge-long elf ears...

I would like to see an upgrade-discount option on the store, so if you have a morphs set for G2F, you can buy the equivalent V7-set for a decent discount, re-buying the basic things to make different characters yet again is really starting to put me off, i've been working with DAZ figures since generation 3, so i already had to re-buy everything three times so far!

    Hello :)

Expressions, body morphs and head morphs shows up at 30% off here, is that correct? I thought 51% off? :)

    Anyone know? Thanks :)

Those 3 don't show any discount for me no matter how much I refresh the page.

I can’t find the genesis 3 starter essential.
I’ve checked the DAZ Install manager, its options etc… nothing.

    Any idea?

Go to your Product Library, you should be able to get it there.

I see it but it doesn't download :-(

It wouldn't be a major DAZ release without some major glitch in the system. ;-P

    Victoria 7?

    Uhm --- okay....

    just - why?

I was still waiting for male companions to Olympia and Giselle. Guess that's not gonna happen now.
Glad I never bothered with poor Nineve, who became obsolete after just 1 month.

None of them are obsolete, but I'm fearing Genesis 2 clothing and hair will be swiftly winding down, if the Genesis/Genesis 2 transition was anything to go by.

On the other hand, if clothing/hair can be simultaneously designed for G2 and G3, in the same way some is for G2 and fourth generation figures, that would be the very best possible compromise. That way, the only absolutely critical purchases would be shaping morphs and Daz would win a whole lot more good will from us customers. We can continue getting new stuff without feeling like a cut-off point is imminent.

what's holding ya back from using the optitex clothes? I use them on everyone, from genesis to genesis 3 to Star, cookie, and chip at RDNA.... even if it doesn't fit just scale it roughly to fit, then do animated drape to fit it.

OT, I know but ... is there a tutorial on how to do that? Do V4 Optitex clothes fit G2F? When I try, I end up with a crumpled mess around her ankles.

Also, they may well drape nicely but they are hard to pose. I can always take a conforming item into Blender and make my own morph but have no idea how to do that with Dynamic Clothes.

YOu can't fit it to them if its not made for them. You have to go into the collisions setting and tell it to collide with the figure. I usually start a scene, load a figure... change animation frames to 50, then go to frame 40 and set up the pose. Go back to first frame, scale the dynamic cloth so its roughly over the zero poses figure, set cloth to collide with figure and whatever it might need to collide with (make sure it doesn't collide with hair to avoid issues). Then I let it do a non-animated drape to get the fit right, and then I do animated drape. now and then i'll need to use a primitive to "pin" a fabric (such as as the shoulder, or to keep from exposing the breast or something). you can also use deformers on the clothing to get it in position before you drape.

Certain things can cause the drape to not work, and it will fall to the ground. I've noticed that trying to make it collide with a plane prim will often make that happen but i don't know why.

The morph packs and expressions are only giving the 30% DAZ Originals PC discount at the moment. If you're a PC member and not logged into the store the discount is 0%. I would imagine the customary 30% intro discount will be sorted out tomorrow, giving a 51% discount to PC members.

Much to my surprise, both morph packs are already on the Hot List scrolling banner!

A default expressions pack has just turned up... That's rather odd not to include in the basic figure.

And it seems, looking at the new clothing, that they are only designed for G3, with no G2-compatability.

I also think it's not good that we now have to buy all the products that we have already bought for Genesis 2 new (See Pose Builder). Here it would be accommodating and attached finally offer an upgrade feature for products that are almost identical to their predecessors.

Pose Builder for Genesis 3 has an upgrade price (additional discount) structure in place as far as I know for those who bought the previous version. I don't know how long it is viable for though.

Well, the Neck and Chest are now both split into Lower and Upper nodes, but does anyone have any idea why there are separate Bend and Twist nodes for the Thighs, Shoulders and Forearms? The rotations are the same, they're just presented in a different order.

    Hi Cayman,

The reason for this is the switch from Triax to General Weight Mapping. Triax provided some nice options such as the ability to have more than one weight map per joint. The problem is, that weight mapping solution is not industry standard which made it difficult to use the previous Genesis rigs in anything but Studio. General Weight Mapping only allows one weight map per joint rotation which is why this rig has the joints split.

Now that we have General Weight Mapping, Gen 3 and V7 translate outside of Studio and work in Autodesk products and gaming engines beautifully. One of the first things I did when I got my hands on these rigs was to test out the FBX exports and used the rig in Autodesk Maya. The animations are lovely. They also translate well to 3Ds Max and gaming engines such as Unity. I haven't tried them yet in Unreal because I still need to update my SDK for that but I expect the same results.

    I hope that helps. :)

    I really like V7 :)

Some really great improvements in realism, some of them are small, but they really matter.

The teeth, I like the teeth, they actually look a lot more real, beautiful natural teeth! Teeth are not supposed to be 100% perfect in my opinion, that is not very attractive. Definitely going to add a lot of realism to smiles.

The body does not seem like the usual Victoria body to me, she does not seem very supermodel'ish to me, and I do not think the V7 body shape is any better than V6, the improvements seem to be in the expressions and bending, the feet and hands are greatly improved in detail, but beauty is a matter of taste I guess :)

Stephanie 6 is still the most beautiful body daz has to offer in my opinion. So I am looking forward to to S7 obviously!

Overall I really really like V7, beautiful face, different from that we already have, the body is great and everything, but it does not seem special like the V7 face.

    Just my personal opinion :)

I'm not very happy with the way they went about this. They literally just released a bunch of new G2F and G2M figures and peripherals, lulling us all into a false sense that G2 was in its prime, and then they bring us crashing down with the sudden news that G3 is about to take over and possibly make that all obsolete (or at least difficult to use well). How about a bit of warning that this was coming Daz?! Or was the lack of warning deliberate to ensure that we all continued to buy G2 products right up to launch?

I appreciate that progress is nice and we wouldn't want to be stuck with stagnating technology for years and years when new improved techniques are becoming available, but I didn't just invest hundreds of dollars in G2 to throw it all away and start again. And compatibility between G2 and G3 seems a little ropey to me at best.

Not sure what to do now... upgrading to G3 with all its morphs and peripherals etc is going to be prohibitively expensive but then I'm fairly sure that content creators will begin to abandon G2 with reckless... er.... abandon? So buying more G2 items seems sketchy now as well. Might be time to admit that this hobby has beaten me :(

This is just an old fashioned money grab, plain and simple.
    $13.00 for basic expressions?
    Take a hike, DAZ.

The Genesis 3 Female Starter was in my DIM and I have installed it. I have tested the Arthurian Dress for genesis 2 Females and the Nimue Hair on her.

The Autofit works, but if you changed the figure to one of the included base poses it it a catastophe

Yeesh, yeah same issues with Gen 1 to Gen 2 I suppose.

What program can I use to adjust or create morphs for clothes?

I've realized shopping for like 10 years that a lot of content is reused and resold by vendors. Meaning, they are probably fixing and adding morphs for the new models. Case in point, capes-- I would love to fix caps as they loose their posing ability in the autofit.

With 4K textures and limited morph options, this is obviously something to wait for. From a sales standpoint, it would have been much more ideal to develop many more morphs and material options up front than to release this with sub-par bundled clothing and hair sets. Even with a 51% discount, you can only make this into the "figure on the box."

Yes, it comes with DAZ Studia as the Genesis 3 Essential Starter Pack:
    https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files/prod/21630/

But DIM doesn't recognize it yet, so you'll have to type in either"Genesis 3" in the search box, or click the link in your Product library.

With regards to Genesis 3 Starter Essentials:

The link in Product Library says it will make Install Manager fetch it but it does not as yet...

I'm guessing I should just download it and put the manifest file into the right place.... then install. Install manager will catch up with update eventually with regard to what is in the product library.

OK - I started the manual download - THEN it popped up as on offer in Install Manager which was open so I cancelled the manual download and told IM to do its thing :)

Cool can check the new base figure out soon!

Sigh .... Not sure how I feel. about this. First of all I see no improvement with clothing and hair. Character may have improved but not the conforming clothing and certainly not the hair. The draping in clothing still look artificial, when the hell are we going to get REAL draping, for God's sake give us a dynamic system for DAZ Studio before dropping another Victoria on our lap.
