My figure arrived yesterday. Many thanks DAZ.

Both hands and part of the base were broken, but I was able to repair it with superglue.

I have bought a 3D printed model before, of a railway wagon, but it was printed in some kind of resin and had a lot of grain on the surface.

...well, it appears recipients in the US have already received theirs, so guess I'm not one of the 1,000.

My concern is more with all the reports of figures arriving that are damaged. This is something that will need to be addressed for purchased and custom printed figures as customers will not be pleased plunking down 35$ - 60$ (or most likely more for a custom printed figure) to have it arrive in pieces. Daz needs to develop a better packaging standard to minimise the risk of breakage since apparently these figures are rather fragile. They also need to allow for options in shipping preference for both carrier (USPS, FedEx. UPS, DHL), and type of service (Ground, Air Economy, Air Express).

One question. Is the return address on the package:

    12637 South 265 West
    Suite 300
    Draper, UT 84020?

    ...or is it different.?

If t's the latter, that could mean Daz or the printing service is using a mailing or fulfillment house. I worked for such a company, and these firms usually are the ones to do the final packaging for shipment. Considering the volume (1,000) units and size of Daz3D this seems the most likely scenario.

I have seen stuff in my street the last day I have always missed thanks to being on edge about delivery
such as a truck that waters the street tree saplings I never knew regularly drove by
and neighbors getting home delivered groceries
    already planning my first purchase
    Jaderail
3Dsom web export from DS3 untextured to give me an idea and all DAZ originals, I have indy license so this encrypted flash object should be covered

Do you need a game license to put something like that on the web? I would consider it an animation, not a game. I did a test of a product viewer a while ago, using V4, I was thinking of using it for 3D scenes:

    http://taosoft.dk/test/3DViewer/index.html

I can't imagine this needs a game license? The only thing you can do really is rotate the scene.

Judging by the source this looks like its using 2D images and not actual geometry so wouldn't need a games license. The various games licenses cover the usage of the actual meshes

The 3DSOM Webviewer I have uses actual encrypted mesh in a directX format, it is not unlike the viewer seen on shareCG or Google/Trimble 3D warehouse.
Yes some use image series and those would not require a license.

OK, yes mine is using a series of 2D images, so no problem here then, I guess. Thanks!

    Kyoto Kid;

Recipients got an in site message that DAZ was sending them a gift and they should update their address. Did you receive such a message If you didn't then I don't think you were selected as a recipient. However, if you did receive the message then maybe you would want to contact customer service an see if they can track the shipment.

Regarding the return address it is not the one you listed but it is the correct address for DZ3D in Salt Lake City. However they may well have outsourced the printing and shipping anyway. Zev0's post 93 above suggests that they had done that and that they (DAZ3D) were not happy

I am glad to know I am not the only one in Canada ( Sask) that hasn't received Vicky3D yet, I am gone to work every day from 7 am to 7 pm, and was beginning to worry that I missed the delivery guy. They usually leave a notice for a pickup point so I have been checking the mailbox every night when I get home.

I got my Vicky today, here in England. They tried to deliver yesterday but I was out so I'm just back from the post office. It's a lovely model. Unfortunatly her left hand is broken off.

The original notification said what the best type of glue was to mend her, but that has gone now (even though I never deleted it). Does anyone remember what type of glue they recommended?

Oooohhh! Your first photo shows the scale/size of the 3D print very nicely. I didn't realize it was quite that large. Due to the quantity of prints made I was imagining something a bit smaller.

Thank you for sharing the photos.

Being out of work and so broke these last couple years, now I really wish I did get one.

I used Gorilla Glue to fix mine, don't know if you have it there in the UK. But the recommendation was plain old liquid superglue.

Hi Richard, checking in with a shipping report of my (free) figure. I'm happy at getting a nice free gift, so please don't take any of the below as a rant. I'd just like to cover what needs to happen to avoid people getting damaged paid-for prints.

Mine was shipped USPS to Canada, first class.

The box didn't show any signs of damage, but my figure had one hand snapped off. The packaging consisted of two pieces of bubble wrap on top of the print with the figure's base plate resting on the cardboard box's bottom. There was enough play in the packing materials that it may have shifted in transit. Luckily nothing hit the base or it was going to snap. The wrist broke from the figure being able to move around in the box.

Packing needs to be improved. Peanuts will shift and allow the same damage to happen, and the 1 inch sized bubbles in the wrap used let small parts like hands hit the sides of the box and break. The print needs to be cushioned on all sides and not allowed to shift or your return rate is going to be high. On the plus side the figure's pose is something of a worst case scenario: All the limbs are at maximum extension and the base is thin with 90 degree edges. A pose with the arms closer in to the body would be a lot sturdier, although I suspect later on when you let people pose things in Studio and send in a print request you're going to run in to the same situation. Swords staves and other long thin objects are going to be a problem.

On technical quality the print itself looks nice and smooth on the body. Nice facial detail (The anime face is very smooth so it's hard to see if the printer is at it's detail limit or not). Nice job on the hair, I suspect you had to have someone extrude and solidify it if you started with something transmapped, and they did it well. Consistency of the sealer could use some work. In some areas it's smooth and shiny but on the face and guns there's some bumpyness to it. Some of the other user's images show some drips and one shows pooling on the base plate. If you're running the equipment yourself you can fiddle with it. Smooth-on has a product that may help with the sealing, it seems to run less, and has a technique that actually soaks in to the powder print and strengthens more than the outer shell, so it may even help with shipping. Even if you don't use it, check the tutorial videos as it can apply to the sealer that came with the printer. http://www.smooth-on.com/index.php?cPath=1429

If a service bureau was doing the printing and shipping, you might have less oversight but at the volume you're putting through them you'll certainly have enough pull to keep your clients happy.

Thank you again for the wonderful gift. Looking forward to the shipping issues getting fixed

Interesting. Mine was not damaged and from reading above it could be due to the packaging being much tighter. Mine had multiple bubble wrap layers at the bottom, sides and above and there was no movement. The address label says USPS First Class Pkg Intl with E-Delcon Service. Was yours with the same service? Perhaps it depended on the individual staff who packaged the boxes :ohh:

Oh, nevermind, a quick google says E-Delcon is just USPS electronic delivery confirmation... not a packaging company. I still wonder who DAZ used though...

A stressful drive home on snowy roads here in Canada (ON) but Vicky was waiting for me! And all her parts were intact. :)
She's fabulous! Really well done DAZ. :) Can't wait to have my own designs made.

There was about 5 pieces of bubble wrap, 1 of them was double length which she was lying in, and the other pieces on top and bottom.
