Morning. Rainbow Lorikeets vs Rest Of The World in an epic squawking match over our fruit trees. Feathers are flying

    Oh, pictures, please!

    Pretty birdies! :cheese:

    +1 Rainbow colors indeed!
I have a Parakeet at home. It never learned to talk. It just squawks into a mirror. It's blue, unlike most of the wild ones in Australia, which are green. I have a cat who is on a diet. She's a convicted thief of pork chops. That means I have a very hungry cat, a very nervous bird, and two goldfish that are too dumb to know what a cat is.

     :blank:

Parrots in general are real dumb always flying into stuff and bumping into each other but they seem to home in on fruit trees OK

Awr, I come back after a month and no one even asked where I had been x)
    How lonely!

Heh, my silliness aside... I just got done moving out of the current place I was staying at and got all my stuff unpacked. Well most of my stuff. Some is still in boxes since the new room is kinda um.... Not big.
I took a few photos once I finally got everything moved in, but I've done a bit of rearranging since then (Like a new and bigger desk, and removing the two sliding doors on the closet so I have easier access to the shelves inside)
    .
    .
I also got an external CD drive so I can finally install CD stuff, like Zoo Tycoon and Paraworld, neither of which are on GoG or Steam. Quite surprising in the latter's case, since they love getting their hands on "Forgotten Gems" like that. Reinstalling Zbrush now, but Cinema 4D will have to wait longer since the disc seems to be corrupted :(
    .
    .
ALso been watching Ouran High School Host Club and loving it quite a bit. Wouldn't have expected it to be an anime I'd enjoy, considering its genre (Romance/Drama) but I do ^^
It's especially fun knowing that Tamaki is voiced by the same actor who voiced Edward Elric, so whenever Tamaki freaks out I just can't help but laugh - not only because it's amusing, but because he does so in a very similar manner to Edward, and that voice aah... Just love it x)
    .
    .
Not much else to report.... I think? I could think up some other things to say, but there's not much off the top of my head I can think of. Well, nothing folks here would be interested in anyway ;P
Might post some commissioned art I got that is normal'ish in nature tho?

How does a CD get corrupted? Or it it on floppies?

Welp got Zbrush reinstalled. The first external optical drive I got turned out to only have the ability to WRITE to discs. I really should have guessed from the name 'DvD Writer', not really sure what was going through my mind at the time. Was only $24 so it's not like it was a big loss or anything. I ordered an optical drive by Samsung off Amazon and it arrived yesterday, first thing I tried was my Cinema 4D R13 installation disc and.... No luck. :(

But! It turns out, my grandpa's computer wouldn't run the installer either. I later put in the Zbrush installation disc and it launched and installed fine. As did Zoo Tycoon (Which would crash upon opening the installer with the other drive). So... I guess the disc or some of the files on it are corrupted :(
    Much sads.

Meanwhile my desktop is still suffering from frequent crashes, and we've tried just about everything. My uncle suggested it might be a motherboard issue (I think that's what he said.... It was something not easy to replace) so I've been looking into a new desktop, which is both a long term goal and something I don't want to do. THis desktop's served me well since 2009, and is still a lovely and powerful computer. But, I don't have much choice. Dell and HP don't do customization anymore - it's just prebuilt configurations only... Boo! But a friend pointed me towards CyberPowerPC which still allows for customization. FULL customization. Awesome. The computer I'm looking at is currently between $1,900 and $2,100 which is still less than what my original desktop cost me, but I do want to fine tune a few things to make sure it's gonna last me a while. All the fancy names and numbers confuse me, especially when it comes to the hardware heheh, but as long as it can run Vue and Cinema 4D with OpenGL just fine, that's all I need to know. I'm not into gaming much, at least not modern games (Sorry to say but Dragon Age and these other fancy current-gen "popular" games? Don't appeal to me.) so if it can't run something then oh well. It's unlikely though, my current crashy desktop can run anything I throw at it, even games released in 2014 and at max settings. The one thing it struggles with was a shader plugin for Minecraft, due to the video card not being supported (Old Intel model) but other than that...

I don't think I'll be doing much 3D'ing in the near future though, my lack of focus is keeping me from doing much (Oh yeah and the self-esteem issues hah) so yeah.

Dunno. I dug up my Cinema 4D installation disc and put it into the external drive and after choosing the language it crashed while complaining about a "Bad Image" and that my version of Windows might not be supported.
Later I tried it on my new Samsung drive and it didn't even get to the language selection - it just crashed immediately ("Cinema 4D has stopped working") with no message box.
I tried it on my grandpa's computer and after the Language selection it just.... Died. No message, no error sound, the process just quit like that.

I tried extracting the files to the desktop folder so I could install it manually thinking it was the disc not being able to be read, but it'd always fail once it reached the localization files, saying they were damaged or incomplete - and the process would fail right there.

So.... I don't know. I'm going to have to contact MAXON support and see if I can request a downloadable version, but given they're only offering R14 ~ R16 in their webshop... I don't know if I can request an older edition or not =/

*ETA* THanks for the welcoming back by the way x3

How old is your version of Cinema 4D? And what version of Windows are you on? It could just be a compatibility issue. If you're on Windows 7 or 8.1, you could open windows Explorer and right click on the executable and select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, check the check box that says Run this program in Compatibility Mode for: and select the version that it ran under, Windows XP is what comes up first for me...I'm on Windows 7 Pro.

I never remember having these kinds of issues back in the 6.1 days even importing full scene subsets over as back then Carrara seemed to play nicer with Daz. Studio than it does now.

I'm confused -- I didn't think Carrara before 8.5 could read ANY DAZ Studio formats, and scene subsets weren't part of DS in the Carrara 6 era.
...well technically they were not scene subsets as 4.x calls them. I would set up difficult to arrange/pose settings in Daz then import them into Carrara. For example, the foreground rooftop potion of the scene below with the tyre, Floater Bots, surrounding props and the robot with clipboard were all set up in Daz, then imported into Carrara 6.1 where the surrounding scenery Sky, flying vehicles, and lighting was added. Contrails were done in post.

All the materials came out pretty well and only needed some minor adjustments save for the Floater Bots on which I used the metallic and glow shaders from Carrara. If tried this today it would most likely crash or at the very best (worst?), most of the materials would be screwed up.

...well, historically, other than the "Native Content", Carrara used the Poser Runtime setup, not the Daz Content one. The character presets I'm having difficulties with in Carrara are custom ones I created and saved in Daz 4.7. The geometry imports OK but the shaders are all screwed up and the proportions as well as the scaling appear to be a bit "off". Not sure if it has to do with DSON or what. I spent a lot of time building these characters and don't wish to rebuild them from scratch all over again particularly because I cannot find some of the morphs and skins in Carrara that I used in Daz.

I never remember having these kinds of issues back in the 6.1 days even importing full scene subsets over as back then Carrara seemed to play nicer with Daz. Studio than it does now.

KK, have you read through this? I don't understand it as I have never used Carrara (I bought it, but haven't installed it). Maybe this would be helpful info.
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14300/
...the issue I'm having is not related to loading a new un-morphed/un-textured Genesis/G2 into Carrara, it is importing full character presets that I already set up and saved in Daz 4.7. Again as I mentioned, 6.1 had no trouble with importing characters and portions of scenes set up in Daz, but ever since ver7 what once worked rather flawlessly has now become "hit or miss" (mostly "miss").

...another reason I left the Midwest.

I remember once when it was in the low 70s just before noon and snowing three hours later. The reason I left Milwaukee for the central region of the state was the effect of Lake Michigan. it could be 80°, then the wind would swing around off the lake and the temperature would drop into the 50s (often accompanied by a thick fog) in the span of ten minutes or so. On the old Allen Bradley building there is tower with a digital temperature display visible from downtown and a good part of the near south side on which you could actually watch the numbers tick down like a NASA countdown before a launch once the wind changed. Never knew how to dress as it was so unpredictable. Not good for the ol' arthritis and sinuses.

    @Kyoto: THanks ^^

@Danta: Cinema 4D version 13, so that's... A few years I think? Not exactly sure how old though. Windows 7 for my laptop, we tried it on Windows 8.1 too - both same result: It'd fail to reach the installation part of it. The only time it complained about the "Bad Image" was when I tried to put the disc into the DvD Writer I got from Staples. Every other source we tried it'd just crash normally.

..."ugh" day today. 45°, breezy, and pouring rain. Was sunny and nearly 60° yesterday.

    Complaints:

Toes and feet cold, need a good pair of lined slippers.
    Joints and bones aching terribly.
Need to brave the wet and cold sometime today to at least make a small market run for dinner tonight.
Not looking good for Green Bay on Sunday as not only is Rodgers is still hurting, but running back Eddie Lacy has a sore knee.

    On the bright side.

Picked up Faveral's Provence on the birthday sale at 66% off (still going on)
Picked up the Daz Horse2 and English Saddle on Fast Grab (still available).

I decided against the Viking Village. Even at that discount, it's still expensive. And when will I create a Viking image? I have boats, but none of the clothing yet. And time is another thing.

And as for the Horse2, that image on my site was the first one I made with the older Millennium Horse. I need to get more use out of that before I spend money on a new horse. I also have the Predatron LoRez Horse, which I also haven't used yet.

...my decisions were based on need. Provence works for part of my story for which I also have a couple other of Faveral's French themed sets. Horse 2 (which will also come into play in the story) at both 70% off along with my PC coupon (which I usually have trouble finding something to use it on) made it a pretty good deal for a better articulated model as it cost me only 5.99$ in the end.

Still waiting for Cat2 and Dog2 as there are mesh issues with posing the Mil versions even when using the pose sets available in the store.
