...well aware of the temperature phenomenon, Used to be a cross country cycle racer in my old college days.

...apologies for the bad attempt at humor, at least I kept it clean unlike some comments on the sporting forums I've seen (and besides, I actually want the Pats to win as down here in Portland a lot of us are tired of how Seattle often looks down on us as nothing more than suburb of theirs).

On one hand, I want Seattle to lose. On the other hand, I want the Patriots to lose. Would it be possible for them to BOTH lose? Like maybe a score of 0-0 after 30 overtimes by Monday afternoon, and the crowds all left from boredom by the end of the first half?

I jest. I don't really care too much who wins, but I wish no ill-will. I will probably watch some of it as I grill some steaks while the chili cooks. Supper at my house is going to be better than the game could ever be. :-P

do potatoes bake faster at lower or higher altitudes?

Should be the same. Here's some high altitude cooking homework for you. There's also Wikipedia for further research.

What kind of potatoes? Maybe I'll bring the steaks!

I really like the little red ones, especially with vegetables grilled over actual fire.

...well got to get ready, friends will be by soon to head out to watch the game.

Apologies to those not into sports, I can understand. I'm the same way with videogaming and MMOs. We all have our own personal interests.

Congratulations to whoever wins the thread.

That's all they've been talking about on the news I watch here...Deflategate and the Super Bowl. I'm really tired of hearing it all. Saturday nights the newscast is only an hour. Last night they dedicated the second half hour to just the game! And they talked about it in the first half hour as well! >:( So, I guess nobody crashed, nobody died, nobody robbed a convenience store, nothing is happening in the Middle East. There was a house fire they told us about. And the weather guy told us the bad news about how much more snow we'll be getting. Twice. :shut:

I too am weary of jokes about balls. Don't know if they cheated or not, but it is plausible that lowering temps will reduce the air pressure. I used to own a car with an air pressure display for each tire. When temps would fall into the 20's (F), the low tire pressure alert would buzz me and I could see that the pressures were below 25 PSI; normally ran them in the mid-30 PSI range. So I would have to add air, and then to make sure they weren't overinflated, I'd have to monitor the pressure as the temps or tires would warm up.

Yeah, there was some Boston science lab that took some time to experiment with footballs. They found that recreating the temperatures and wet conditions of the game, the footballs did deflate by about 2.5 pounds or so. The wetness had a part in it...the ball is covered in leather, which shrinks and tightens when wet. Besides, all the ball players said that it didn't even matter to them. Even the players on the other team said that it made no difference. In fact they were saying that the ball could have been totally deflated and the Pats would still have won because they are just a better team. For the opposition to be saying things like that, you'd think that every body would just...ermmm...drop it!

I don't even care, really, because I don't care for football and don't follow it. But when it's a Boston news program and the team considered to be Boston is going to the finale, well, it's difficult to avoid hearing about it. I suppose after they win, it will be another few weeks of endless football news. Trophy showings, victory parades, duck boats. Geesh!

Around here, businesses have been taking advantage of it and doing all sorts of stupid deflation promotions. And the rock station I listen to had a contest, a deflated ball contest. This station is known for crazy things. The prize was pretty big. The contest was for the smallest...ball...think about it. They actually had guys going into their van and the intern had to measure...probably with a caliper or something...and the smallest one wins. Well, there was a guy with only one. He was the winner. Part of the prize was a big screen Samsung TV I think.

I can't imagine the people who actually participated in this contest. I guess some folks really will do anything to win a contest.

This is not the first time they've done something like this. And once, a very popular female DJ on station WHJY in Providence RI went too far. Her name was Carolyn Fox. On April Fools Day one year, she announced early in the morning that Providence was shut down and nobody should go to work. For further questions, she gave the phone number of a competing radio station. A Fox that can Shock

I think things bake faster at higher altitudes...I don't think you need to worry, being so close to sea level there.

Things come to the boil faster, and at a lower temperature, at high-altitudes because of the reduced pressure - so they cook more slowly - but that doesn't affect dry-cooking like baking.

How about your vision of this:

Morning. White winged gulls soaring on a persistent but gentle breeze off the bay swaying treetops and bright edged banners and flags left over from the holiday outside my window...

Maybe add your own. I'd put a sailboat in there, or maybe a jumping fish or two.

I don't know that much about it, just remember instructions on a cake mix talking about higher elevations needing to adjust temperature and cooking time.

That stunt is almost worthy of being in the Peter Sellers movie "The Magic Christian".

Why "complaint" thread? I never got that.

Originally when it started it was the antithesis of a complaint thread, in reaction to all the whinging and whining that went on in the forums. :coolsmirk:

That was many years ago, the complaint thread has been going for quite some time now. I don't know if anyone can actually date when the first iteration was started

Old adage: You can either laugh about your troubles or cry about them. Seems like a simple choice to me... Or you can post in the silly old complaint thread!
